OK…how about free shipping and 15% off if the Jets beat the Bears?

That is a pretty good bet for WL 😉

Sorry Gary but I don’t think it will happen.

Go Falcons!!! Don’t ask about yesterday!!!

  • MarcT…the fights were great, I am just very dissapointed that a Pride guy comes in and whoops up on Franklin like that. My next call is Monson killing Silvia at ARCO. Cannot wait!

Chuck W (#50) – thanks for the idea to use the spreadsheet. That would cover the wines that I picked from the WLTV episodes – but I still need an idea to deal with the WL choices I bought that aren’t on WLTV (thus, not on the spreadsheet) yet…
E (#53) – no sparkle – just still Vouvray. I like the price and I agree that it’s interesting – definitely more dry than you might guess – but perfect for picnic fare (tough, yeasty bread, cured meats, old cheese, olives….) and we also drink quite a lot of Muscadet for the same reason. It’s a GREAT value and still rather “undiscovered” French treasure I think.

  • MarcT,

The Guigal after two hours in a decanter? Pure ambrosia. Lilacs, honeysuckle and roses. Incredibly, stunningly floral. I have NEVER smelled a wine like that. Practically knocked me down with the floral aromas. Even tonight, after being open 24 hours, it was delicate, floral and stunning, like the finest, most subtle perfume. Anyone who hasn’t had this wine needs to buy a bottle with the free shipping.

  • Tonights MNF Wine:

    2004 ZD Reserve Chardonnay
    14.5% Alchohol
No malo which gives it a pure Chardonnay flavor. Definitely no butter, crisp and clean, yet silky smooth, almost honey dew…very tasty.

The back of the bottle says it was aged for 16 months in small American oak barrels and I should not operate heavy machinery after consumption.

Free shipping and only 88 comments???? I bet Gary has gotten more orders than that. I thought there would be a lot more comments than that, especially when you consider that a dozen of those posts alone are from Brandon M (nothing but love there Brandon).Free shipping and only 88 comments???? Great episode, I’m truly sad I can’t take advantage of the free shipping….
Some wines that have made me say “ahhh, ummmm” lately would be:
1 and 2 – Without a doubt Cheval Blanc ’66 and Mouton ’86. Wonderful B-day dinner for the Cheval with wild pigeon. The mout. was only a single taster glass but still a great chance to understand Bourdeaux.
3 and 4 – I’m a newbie to wine all around so my first tastes of Amarone and Dolcetto D’Alba (sorry didn’t note the producers) had me pining for more.
5 and 6 – Some nice QPRs: Torbreck’s Woodcutter Shiraz and K Vintner’s red “House Wine”. Both knocked me over for the price.
    Cheers,
    GG

Hey Gary, thanks for the free shipping! Made a lurker feel guilty for not posting, so here goes…

    QOD –

    1) Justin Isosceles 2001
    2) Phelps Insignia 2001
    3) Quercetto Chianti Res 2001

BTW, I have to comment on your ‘listerine’ swish tasting technique… I actually tried this with Nobilo Sauv Blanc, and was appalled at how it turned my favorite everyday wine into a sour shuddering blech bomb. What gives? Is my favorite really that bad, or do I need a wine-tasting 101 course in my near future?

Thanks for the free shipping code …it was very much appreciated! My order is in.
My last 5 wines were all from wine library and some were your referals…
    1. Charles Creek Merlot Miradero 2002 (the Sat. night special this week, really love this wine!)
    2. Razon Valsacro 2004 (totally agree with your review)
    3. Campbells Rutherglen Tokay (very nice dessert wine)
    4. Coppola Merlot 2003 (a nice “school night” wine)
    5. Dr. Loosen Riesling 2004 (another “school night” wine)

Go Bears! Never give up on the Bears D.

    Gary,
Thank you very much! I am quickly becoming a Jets fan.

I really enjoyed the following wines:

    Ferrari Carano Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
    Bodega Muga Rioja Reserva 2001
    Bodega Muga Blanco 2004
    Chateau Gloria 2002
Dry Creek Old vines Zinfandel 2001

My favorite number is bigger than yours!

  • Bruce

ChrisR, you list the Stefano Farina Barolo 2001 that you have had recently. I have a couple bottles and was going to wait a year or so to drink. Sounds like you really liked it? Do you think it is ready now or should I wait a while longer?

EileenB – Same question for you about the 2001 Insignia

    Thanks,

    Bruce

I would like to thank my “Wine Sensei” GV and the Jets for the free shipping offer. It was what finally made me pull the trigger on a mixed case from WL. I put together a selection of wines that my “Sensei” has liked in the show and will have fun tasting to see if I agree with the Master.
