  • Everything seems fine here

  • Italian…dig the myspace page, I had no idea a new Rocky movie was coming out.
Did they have to use such cheesy music on the movies though? Hearts on fire…cmon!

    Gary-

Really like it when you take a stand and make it personal. Why would you ever apologize for a 97 pt. rating?

When are you going to do a show about your wifes favorite wines? There is a good future QOD!

Recent favorites: Weingut Kurt Hain Piesporter Riesling Spatlese
    Moncalvina Moscato D’Asti
Eagle Rock Niagara ( a Pennsylvania wine!!! )

JETS 3-3 on the way to 6-10, but don’t worry about Matty Van, Bills won’t be any better!

Gary, Thanks for accidentally answering the question I asked three times. The way you made the Chat Haut Gardere told me all I need to know.

Well it looks like the Jets made up some ground on the Pats, who had a bye week.

I guess Karma dictates that I can’t use the free shipping, I live in a ‘felony’ state for shipped wine.

    QOD
xxxx Laurel Ridge late harvest Semillion I’m so mad I can’t get back there for more.
    2003 Pend D’Oreille L’OEuvre
2004 Thorn Clarke Shotfire Ridge Shiraz Barossa Valley
2003 Colonia Las Liebres Bonarda Mendoza

Brandon, you went back to one bottle of the Solera? You are gonna be SO disappointed when it’s gone. 😉 Look at me pining for more of the Laurel Ridge dessert wine, trust me, I know.

    Que SeraSyrah (post 45):

I noticed your last “adorable” wine lineup too and salivated. Sea Smoke is my all time fav Pinot (outside of Burgundy) and 2Hands and Christoffell are awesome. Last weekend was a bit out of the ordinary, my wife’s 40th birthday and we consumed those wines over 2 back-to-back celebrations. She is worth it….although my philosophy is life is too short to drink “vin Ordinare” – so we rarely open an ordinary wine any day.

I though for sure you would have an Ojai Syrah on your list!

STALLION, never mind I see you comment now, although the one you sent with just the exclamation point which was sent after definitely showed up first.

I think the delay is because you included a LINK and they do some kind of check to make sure it’s not something pornographic or something.

Anyway, thanks for the advice….VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

    hinrgman,

The blog you linked to in comment #102 is the one I do with my brother-in-law. We’ve written several posts about Wine Library, WLTV and Gary. Check them out.

We also use Wine Library for a lot of the wines we buy for our Grape Nuts tastings. All the results are on the blog. Enjoy.

Yes I did previously post something about wine storage units, but I’m more than happy to go over it again. First of all, They are expensive, no matter which way you go. It seems as if the companies that manufacture them think that people (like us) that buy enough wine to need a place to keep it have deep pockets. I live in an apartment in Manhattan, so space and noise are important considerations. I ultimately bought a Eurocave unit. It operates like a refrigerator (coolant flows thrugh its walls) so it is very quiet and can be placed almost anywhere. They come in different sizes, holding from 100-600 bottles, and are probably the most expensive way to go (I bought mine before the market crashed). Another type of unit (with forced air cooling) is noisier and may need space for air movement would be more suitable for those who have a basement or garage. they are usually less expensive. If your requirement aren’t too large (less than 100 bottles) Haier makes several units, either free standing or built-in. Hope that helps.

Regarding the left-over wine question, I do use the Vacuvin system, but as Gary had alluded to long ago, wine is tough. Depending on the wine, simply recorking the bottle will keep the wine very much drinkable for a few days, and I’m sure that’s more than enough time to finish it. The one case where I would be concerned about an unfinished bottle would be a VERY old vintage (’59 Bordeaux for example). Any lengthy amount of time exposed to the air could allow the wine to lose its “charm.” A wine like that would be best opened when you know it will be be gone in short order.

    Sorry for my verbosity.

  • SS Chris,

I see the link now…..nice…..its only a 42 bottle one so if you want bigger I found (through extensive research) that the Eurocave is the best one. By the way….my order:

Rocky IV…Rocky I…Rocky II and III are tied. Rocky IV is my favorite movie all time so it goes without saying that’s my favorite Rocky. Love Drago and the training montage..

Italian Stallion: C’mon. I can respect the fact that you like the Rocky films despite the sham Rocky V was but you lost me on your rankings! IV in front of I?!? That’s crazy talk. I was an actual good movie. IV was a bunch of pop/propoganda crap (even though it’s better than the other three). Go watch Rocky I again. It’s not a boxing movie, it’s a love story.

  • GOL

QOD – In no particular order
2003 Paul Hobbs Richard Dinner Vineyard Chardonnay
2003 Martinelli Seven Mules Vineyard Pinot Noir
    Villa Mt Eden Orange Muscat
2003 Kelly’s Revenge Shiraz (Thomas Hardy & Sons)

    QOD2 – 24232017

TimF – I have been keeping a “wish-list” on WL’s site simply by using the shopping cart. I sometimes have problems with the quantity, but it is fairly easy to edit. I had been waiting to turn it into an order until next month, when the TEAM OF DESTINY goes into NJ for their tenth win of the season, but GV and WL just delivered XMAS a month early to all us Chi-area Vayniacs, so my order is going in today

GV – Seriously, it is so generous of you and WL to do this, can’t thank you enough. FREE SHIPPING is HUGE like URLACHER for those of us who can’t find a lot of the wines you taste on WLTV and sell at the store

Question for GV – Was the code the score of the Jets-Dirty Fish game or a prediction for when DA BEARS come to town… 201-7, DA BEARS (with DITKA driving da bus)?

Stallion, Haier also has a 102 bottle model. Did your research find something wrong w/ that unit as compared to the EuroCave?

Your too young to have experienced going to the theater for the first Rocky…it’s success was so unexpected at the time..nobody even knew Sylvester Stallone. Of course the future Rocky’s could never have that “freshness” advantage.

Thanks for the free shipping code; it was a good chance to get a mixed case of QPRs. Hope it will be good for WL business and you will do it again and again.
    Viticcio ’01 CCR, Lucius
    Cims de Porrera ’99 Classic
    La Palazzola ’00 Merlot
    Morgante ’01 Don Antonio Nd’A
    Muga ’01 Rioja Reserva

Also, Julius Comment #108: I really enjoyed Magnificat, but attributed much of it to pleasant situation. It was a favorite.

  • There weren’t any consumer report reviews on the Haier 102 bottle model. I would feel confident in it though because the same company that makes Haier is the same company that makes Kenmore, and Kenmore is a reliable product.

As for the Rocky comment…If I wanted to watch a love story I would watch Ghost or the Notebook or Titanic for that matter…Rocky IV has it all….his best friend gets killed by this Russian with super human strength. Rocky, though scared, vows his best friends death. He trains the old fashioned way, going back to the roots. Whereas on the total flipside, Drago trains high-tech with sophisticated machinery and of course, Steroids. It’s a true battle between muscle and heart. The training montage is amazing….and the music is incredible. I feel like I can work out for days after watching Rocky IV. Rocky I is an amazing movie, no doubt about that. I however like Rocky IV the best…its personal preference.

Also…Chris: me being young doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate Rocky as much, if not more than the next guy. I am without a doubt, the BIGGEST Rocky fan out there. I had the fortune of meeting Stallone 3 years ago at the GNC in Herald Square. I got there 7 am, and he was scheduled to arrive at 12 pm. I missed my math final to do so. If anything, I feel that I have MORE appreciation for Rocky than the people who saw the original in the theaters, and I will tell you why…..Rocky embodies determination, will power and heart. A true testament to never counting out the underdog. I started watching Rocky at the young age of 5 yrs old, literally watching it everyday. I grew up with that “Rocky” mentality of NEVER, EVER giving up. The people who were already grown up and saw that movie witnessed Rocky’s mentality…becuase I grew up watching it, I was branded with that mentality.

That’s like saying Gary’s not as big of a JETS fan as someone who’s older because he wasn’t around when they won their last super bowl…..

  • “76 Dr. Tanisch Ausleses. What a heavenly bottle.
Did a vertical tasting of Leoville Las Cases and my favorites were 1986, 1975, 2003
The Saints and Sinners Viognier you recommended is still one of my favorite whites lately

The dirty socks smell you mentioned with the third wine I sometimes associated with Brett contamination. I am particularly sensitive to Brett and was wondering if that could have been in that funky nose you described?

You sure do know how to throw a celebration! How was the Priorat and the Hourglass? As for the Ojai, I haven’t had one in a while and although I do enjoy their Syrah’s, I wouldn’t say I adore them. =p Looking forward to trying the Olson Ogden Syrah courtesy of this free shipping (btw… when does this promotion end?)
