QOD- Is Diebolt-Vallois a grower champagne? (Relatively new to the world of champagne so not sure what the non-mainstream champagnes are besides Dom Perignon, Moet and Chandon, Veuve Cliquot, Perrier-Jouet, Taittinger, Nicholas Freuillet (sp?)) If so, I would have to say that would be my answer. Really enjoyed the blanc de blanc. Rob M. (comment 22) makes an interesting point. Did you taste these champagnes at room temperature?

QOD: My favorite sparkling wine is actually not a champagne, but Saint-Hilaire Blanquette de Limoux. It’s a great everyday bubbly for $9 or so.

QOTD: While in Munich I remember drinking Vilmart and thinking how great it was! I wish I had some now. I was told about how they are “farmers” (I’m am hearing the story from a Bavarian) and make champagne with their own grapes.
    Cool story and AWESOME wine!
I too can NOT drink enough champagne.

    Off to vote…

    JoeP-
The heat episode has not happened yet.
That was a little Gary Sarcasm.

QOTD = Best grower’s ChampagneI drank was a Jacquesson % Fils Brut NV. But the best vintage Champagne I ever had was from one of the biggies, the Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 1990. And the few DPs I had were also not too shabby.

  • wey

How about tasting champagne in a Bordeaux / Bourgogne glass 🙂

Voted, at least I think I did. I clicked on vote in the 3 catagories and the star turned yellow. I didn’t see anything however to enter vote? Is that all you are supposed to do?

    Voted. Good luck Gary!

QOD: Unfortunately can’t answer — I usually don’t buy Champagne often, as we usually end up getting a couple bottles a year as gifts, and they usually end up being the usual suspects. So this was a very interesting ep for me. Will have to make an effort to pick up some of these in the future.

Champagne and Lobster RULES! Probably my favorite food & wine combo…

I think the only way Gary would have been in a better mood for the ep today is if it had been the Jets winning last night on MNF…

Hey, long time lurker, first time poster. I’m not a huge sparkling wine fan, but I should probably try some good stuff before writing off the whole category.

I have a question for the crowd. I have to go to Dallas this weekend for a wedding. I would like to take a nice bottle of wine for the happy couple, something that would keep for at least their 10th, ideally their 25th anniversary. I’m leary of taking anything with me on the plane because of the limits on carrying liquids on board. (Who wants to donate a $100 bottle of wine to the TSA?) Any recommendations of a good wine shop near DFW? I’m flying in and staying in the vicinity. I know nothing can compare to WL for price and selection, but a good deal would be nice. Thanks!
