had most everything, but never had a gewurztraminer

  • Porter

I’ve never had a wine that was mostly made from the following grapes Trebbiano, Verdicchio, Vermentino, Petit Verdot, Norton, or Teroldego.

Thanks for introducing a new wine especially one that is so cheap and tasty.

I don’t have anything to say about the new equipment that you don’t already know. I appreciate your attempts to constantly improve WLTV.

haha, good effort on the mic. Trial and error. At least you’re trying something new, props!

However, I will miss scrambling for my speaker volume at the start of each episode as your voice blasts through the office.

  • Hey Gary..

HAD TO MENTION THE BEARS LOSS…DIDN’TCHA!?!?!? OK, they did. Hopefully they’ll wake up for the Giants, but the Giants are a LOT better than the Dolphins, so who knows.

Any way, as far as the “new” technology…thanks for bringing back into the dark ages. My opinion of the “new” stuff is ditto what everyone else is saying. BUT, still a good little episode. As for QOD, I’m with you on the Dornfelder, and then probably a majority of Greek wine grapes, Catawba and I’ve never had a South African Pinotage.

    Alright, see you later.
    GO BEARS!!!!

You know I am a huge fan, but I would say that was your worst episode so far. There was no Vay-Ner-Chuk at the beginning and obviously the sound and picture suck. There was no sign off either. Bad form Chuk, bad form. Get sloppy drunk in Paris for 3 nights straight does not give you an excuse to give a poor performance on the field the next day. Welcome back. Love ya man.

The lighting was terrible, and I do not like the mic. Go back to the crappy technology.

I HAVE had a Dornfelder, but it was from Santa Barbara. It was very interesting. Not very good, but very interesting. It’s mainly a blending grape from what I understand used for color. Which makes sence, because the glass was absolutely coated in deep purple/black. It left a bit of a an astringent aftertaste in my mouth afterwords. It was difficult to get the coating off of my tounge. Very odd, but very interesting. I would recommend trying it.

I’ve actually never had Charbono. I’ve never Kawtaba or Norton.

C’mon guys – give GV a break – Some new toys – they will get them figured out. If we all recall from the early episodes, it was a little dark, and through good constructive crit. they got it figured out which I am sure that they will here too.

The only thing is you can’t scream across the room like before when you are Mic’d up. May lose the FLAIR. WHOOOOOOO….. (Had to tie in a little wrestling into my comment today).

  • Gary, I’m sure the new technology can be tweaked so the new episodes resemble the old ones. The new camera and mic are like trying to force the screw cap on a traditionalist. It may take some time, but it’ll all be OK.

QOTD – There are tons that I haven’t tried yet, but the most popular, hmm, maybe pinotage.

    Martha? Ug… I’m loosing respect.

There are so many varieties I haven’t tried.

One question for you which has been bothering me: I’ve noticed that some wines have a surprising amount of sediment or what appears to be sugar crystals on the cork after opening. I have to take a napkin and wipe the inside of the neck, then of course there is a fair amount of sediment at the bottom. Does this have to do with the bottling procedures, disolved sugars, varietals, shipping/storage conditions, or just random? Since I don’t decant, is there anything I should other than watch that last swig for chunks?

Keep up the good work, and bring back the other camera – don’t fix what ain’t broke!

    LOL

The Swish, Clank and Spit is beyond unbearable with a collar mic.

I think I ruined my speakers!

Was the mic in the bucket? I”ve gotten used to your spitting but Pleeeeease — you don’t have to amplify it.

Nice to have you back, Gary. I’m not going to repeat about the technology issues, I am sure you already have your team looking into that now.

Don’t have Sirius so won’t hear you there, and I probably won’t pick up NY Times again. To me its not worth $1 a paper, I, like many people I know, get most of my news from the internet these days. Gosh, even my 73 year old mom gets her news from the internet! Newspapers are so 20th century! Hope to hear you on local radio again very soon though.

QOD, I have made it a point to taste lots of different varietals, so I have had most of the common ones. In addtion to Dornfelder, I do not believe I have tasted the following: Airen, Aligote, Barbera, Carignan/Cariรƒยฑena, Cinsaut, Dolcetto, Lambrusco, Malbec, Marsanne, Pinotage

Technology woes. White balance was way off, microphone seemed to create a Lip-Sync effect, and made you sound like you had a cold. Whole thing came off very third-person for some reason.

Admire your devotion to WLTV considering you just got back from Paris (fade to envy).

QOTD: Never tried any of the desert wine grapes (don’t even know what they are ๐Ÿ™‚

QOD: I’ve been fiending to try some wines from the Jura region, namely Vin Jaune and Savagnin, but I can’t find them at any wine stores in LA:( Help or tips are appreciated!

    Hi Gary,

I agree with everyone. The mic technology and lighting were terrible. Sorry. Gotta be truthful.

As far as the QOD goes, I have tried just about every major wine varietal I can think of but one of the lesser known ones that I have yet to try is Gruner Veltliner (even though I own a bottle but just haven’t tried it yet). I am looking forward to it. I am sure there are tons of other varietals as well but that is the one that comes to mind.

GV, I will definitely tune in tomorrow. I have Sirius (and love it) and will be sure to listen at 4 PM tomorrow. Good luck!!!!

I don’t know. Could be the Spit Bucket Mic is the natural evolution of micing the hole during PGA events. I think you are on to something cutting edge once again!

Never heard of Dornfelder before but did have a 100% petite verdot recently on a trip to Sonoma County…very interesting stuff. Gary, lucky for you, your beloved Jets wont be visiting the city of brotherly love this year! Anyway, keep up the good work.

  • Bring back WLTV. What was this, the low-budget French version? See you go to Paris and you come back changed.

I’ve never had Kadarka or Dornfelder.
