EP 126 Big Annoucements

Wines tasted in this episode:

A big day for us here at winelibrary.com. Some very big announcements are made in todays episode. Today Gary tastes a shiraz, a gigondas both highly requested by WLTV viewers to be tasted. He also tastes two other reds to round out the episode.

Have had Cotes du Rhone and CDP but not Gigondas that I know of. El Nido good stuff. Was not into wine when my son was born but now he enjoyes when I open something good. Saving some special bottles for becoming a Grand Dad. http://www.winelx.com

I was going to be gracious and humble. I was going to offer congratulations for the Jets solid performance. But then you wen’t and said it… “Patriots Suck”!

    Them’s fightin’ words!

Unfortunately, I don’t have much ammunition at the moment because, yesterday, they did suck.

Just don’t get too full of yourself. We’ll kick you ass next time.

    P.S. Happy anniversary

    free.winelibrary.com — Very cool!!!

Great concept â?? especially for those of us who donâ??t have a cellar. Being able to buy 1-2 bottles of something to try w/o shipping charges makes it easy to try things.

Agree with ML (posting on the free web site), would be good to combine with GV reviews â?? also would help to know the source of the quote on the left â?? actual review or marketing fluff.

12 bones for a 90 pt Tanzer wine = good QPR, worth a try.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out over the next several weeks, but Kudos to winelibray.com for staying at the forefront!

    Hey Gary,
Congrats on the anniversary. If I had money, I’d bring my gf to Cru and try to get a glimpse of you in person, since I’ve never met you in person.

Congrats Eric! Though kids are a far off topic for me, I can appreciate the joy you must feel. (at the risk of sounding crude and unruly…at least you know you’re not shootin’ blanks! :))

  • Happy Anniversary Gary and a happy birthday tomorrow. My wife and I (going on 8 years) have yet to get pregnant, and when her sister got pregnant, I didn’t open anything because her sister (and her husband) don’t drink. So, I may have gone home and had something, but sadly for me, nothing “special” was done with wine.

Congrats on your Jets…I don’t know if that should be bad for the Bears or not. But we lost to Dolphins last week, so who knows which Bears are going to show up. Will it be the fumbling, stumbling, interception throwing Bears of last week and Week 7? The no-holds-barred winning by 41 points points of some weeks? Or the Bears that play like a normal football team and keep me on the edge of the couch both cursing at the T.V. and then hugging it 5 minutes later?

So we’ll see…and trust me, I KNOW that we Bears fans will NOT hear the end of it should your Jets win. Of all the games I want them to win, it’s that one, just so I don’t have to take your abuse. See you later, and have a good night!
    GO BEARS!!!

Gary- Congrats on everything, especially your pending “unclehood”. When you’re happy, we’re happy. My brother-in-law, a great guy, is a huge Jets fan, and because of him, I root for the Jets in the AFC. He is coming to Chicago in December and I’m taking him to the Bears-Vikings game. Don’t forget the WL free shipping to those of us with Chicago addresses for a Bears win over the Jets.

    QOD- 2002 Carlisle Zin.

    Dan C.

PS- Top 30 post is a first for me.

Classic episode! Great line up of wines, some humor (one of the good reviews includes the phrase “not just glops of disgusting fruit”), some personal notes, and Gary absolutely en fuego! Nice job, Gary. You really know how to straddle the line between education and entertainment.

Gary, happy anniversary. I am in NY so I made reservations for Cru too – and I’ll seek you out and stop by and introduce a couple of people to you.

    Great review on the Clio.

Each time we found out we were expecting, we celebrated with Billecart Salmon Brut Rose.

Happy to see you happy. I just turned 30 two weeks ago and my wife got me a 6 pack of the 04 Clio for my Bday (good stuff and a good woman) My 3 yr aniversary was this weekend, great month! Congrats Eric!

    Wow…Way to go Eric!!!
    Again Gary…happy anniversary.
Great episode. I will have to try the Clio. I am a time traveler in that I like both old world and new world wines. Thanks for the tip. My favorite grape is Mourvedre.

Congrats to Eric and his wife; congrats to Gary & Liz, congrats to the Jets! Big day for the WLTV team.

By the way, I design playgrounds for a living. Let me know when you are ready to put a jungle gym out in the WL parking lot! We can even do a Jets theme. 😉

What a great upbeat episode! Congrats on anniversaries and birthdays alike. Eric, congrats to you on your pending fatherhood, it’s a life changing experience for sure!

Love the new free.winelibrary.com idea. You’re very good at keeping us interested and involved.
Thanks for the Gigondas and Vacqueyras tastings. We had the good fortune to be in both towns this summer for our 25th anniversary, tasting as much as possible. What great finds we discovered, and such beautiful countryside.

beautiful wedding shot, by the way…

Happy Birthday and Anniversary, big guy. We were born less than 2.5 months apart. We’ll need to open a wine from 1975 at our WLTV party in Chicago…

QOD: You really can’t do this because your wife is pregnant and wouldn’t be able to try the wine.

Hey Gary, congrats and thanks for tasting the Sanguine. Sounds pretty much in line with my thoughts on the 2000. Nice but not worth $40.
    Keep up the great work!

  • great news! great episode! i like the ones where you are in a good mood…they put me in a good mood. so…questions; you threw a lot out there…ummm. i like red…grape was always my fav. as for what bottle of wine i opened at the announcement of a pregnancy…well, i have never popped open a bottle for such an occasion. I did however get accepted to a Doctoral program a few weeks back and was very excited because it took many years to get to that point and i did pop open a bottle. My girlfriend took me out to my favorite restaurant and i took a bottle of the 2003 Girard Petite Syrah to drink…it was amazing! I have another bottle waiting for a few years and a special occasion…

Happy #2 Gary! Enjoy the journey!
I remember my and my husband’s #2 (23 years ago!) – we celebrated at a picturesque B & B in Santa Barbara. My husband enjoyed the area’s fine wines and dining (with my blessing) while I floated through the weekend in varying stages of “green-ness” due to being 3 months pregnant with our first baby!

As for free.winelibrary – let me just say, I see the potential need for a 12 step program as a result of this daily temptation from WL!

It’s funny, but I jumped on to take advantage of the free offer BEFORE I even watch the episode. Gary, I only ordered a couple of bottles b/c I need to see if they make it to my home in Panama w/o problem. I’m a Zinfandel lover, I’ll have to admit. Eric, the best experience in life. We’ll all monitor the progress until birth. Gary, happy anniversary, and for sure the happiest of birthdays. This shall be a special one since you now have WLTV and in such, a zillion friends. All the best!

QOD: When we found out definitively that I was pregnant, my husband opened the bottle of Opus One we bought during our honeymoon. He enjoyed it…I was vomiting.

    way to go thats amazing!
    gary,
great episode today. you were firing on all cylinders. QOD: i have not had that honor yet, but judging by some of the ladies’ responses above, i dont think i could open up something too special as my wife was on the verge of vomiting. that would be too cruel.

Gary, Happy Anniversary. We hope you enjoyed Cru. We had a great time there last time in New York. Also, the only Clio we can find locally is the 2002. Do you know how that compared to the 2003 or the 2004?
