Another great job! Maybe diet Coke is the way to go at some of these national chains.

No one told me about Wine Library. I stumbled across it while using winezap.com to search for the lowest price of a particular cabernet I was looking for. After clicking on the TV tab and viewing several episodes, I was hooked.

I have told anyone who will listen about Wine Library TV. I bought Vayniac T-shirts for my wine drinking buddies. Heck, Gary, I’m 55 years old and am acting like a kid again waiting for the next episode of the Lone Ranger and Roy Rogers.

    “It’s all about the wine!”

    Ciao

Here in the Netherlands, South African wines are hot! Maybe for historical reasons (colonisation), but most def also for quality reasons. Many of them are real steals! (and even cheaper here than in the USA)

Great episode, Gary! I totally agree on the BV. Haven’t had the others though.

QOTD part 1 – Wandering aimlessly on the internet looking for info about a wine I was interested in (I don’t remember which one, maybe 2004 etude pinot noir?) I stumbled upon WLTV through a google search and never looked back.

part 2 – Besides my girlfriend, who is a recent convert to the beauty of wine, I haven’t told anyone else. Being a college student at a large Sorority/Fraternity dominated university, cheap beer reigns supreme for pretty much all of my friends 🙁

  • mikeyrad

IMHO, in general, Cali cabs and chards simply aren’t great everyday wines. When I think of everyday wines I mean wines that compliment food. In many, if not most cases, the Cali cabs and chards overpower food because of their unbalanced alcohol and/or oak. At the price point discussed today ($8 – $13) I’d much rather go with something like a Nero d’Avola, but I’m pretty old world.

    Gary,
Now for the answer to your question…I found Wine Library TV by doing a search on how to do a proper wine Tasting…yes I found you through Google. I watched 1, then 2, then about an hour later I was emailing my friends and telling them to check out the site. Heck, my daughters and I watch you while we are making dinner. We are pretty good at doing “Hi I am Gary Vay-Ner-Chuck”. My daughters obviously don’t join in on the tasting, but they do enjoy trying to guess the bouquets. We all loved the “How to train your palate” episode.

If you ever come to South Central PA we have a growing group of Vayniacs who would love to taste wine with you!

1)on the WL email list for over a year and followed sales email to WLTV

2)my wife, best bud Lonny L, dad George A, best neighbors Pookie and Tootie, 15 friends gathered at an annual car convention at a wine tasting i put together, and about 100 other wine fans i have come accross in the last 6 months (basically anyone who likes wine, i tell them about WLTV)

    3)not applicable.

Just for fun, everyone, go to Zachy’s and follow their link to their wine video blog and click on the lady tasting. I am sure she knows tons more than me and i am not demeaning her, but compare the fun we get with Gary to this lady’s demeanor (talk about the boring, stuffy wine image we are all trying to get past).

Gary, for fun, please put a link to this lady’s blog next to your head on the next episode, so all the other viewers will watch her for 20 seconds and come to appreciate you more – YOU DESERVE THE CREDIT!

This was a great episode GV. I assume the Wolf Trap is a large production wine??

QOD: I discoverd WLTV through the WL web site. I have referred my dad and a few co-workers. Most of my friends think I’m ridiculous with my addiction to WLTV.

    QOD #1
I think I stumbled upon WLTV from an ad or hyperlink on another site.

    QOD #2
I’ve referred WLTV to at least 10 people; my wife, in-laws, friends and co-workers. Anyone I know who enjoys wines and/or the Jets.

  • I can’t stand epsiodes like this from a tasting stand point. Not only are these marginal (at best) wines, but if Gary scored them an 86, there’s so many cases made your probably not gonna get even CLOSE to the same bottle. The one you buy may be an 83, or and 88. The Wolf Trap is different becasue it’s out of the way and not found everywhere, but Rosemount, Mondavi, BV, and Columbia Crest…PAZZZZZZZZ

    QOTD:

    Part 1: Google

Part 2: All family a friends, but I’m the one that brings them news and shows them episodes so they really don’t come on contribute. WLTV is just that thing that Brandon is into, with a roll of the eyes.

Part 3: If the site is good enough, then I tell everyone.

    Gary’s REAL Opinion:

“Don’t drink ANY of these wines.”

    Gary,
First off thank for actually doing a show for us
$5 – $15 cheapskate wine drinkers. This is VERY
    appreciated!

Now, where do you get off telling us not to drink
any of these wines? There is a reason why we drink
these wines. We want to have a glass or two of wine
everyday AND UNLIKE YOU we can’t afford breaking open
a $30-$50 bottle of wine every night.

Sure, we know that $30 – $50 wine is pretty much better
than $5 – $15 wine (remember my graph of Chris’
    spreadsheet?). Doh.

    So, we have a choice:

    1. Drink great wine once a week.

    2. Drink cheapskate wine every day.

So, in general, we chose #2 and occasionally
    splurge for the fancy stuff.

You are sorely mistaken about this…I would say go read the forum and decide DIFFERENT wines other than these. Gary is not saying don’t drink $10 wines, he saying there are MUCH better wines at these price points.

He truly wants you to buy good wine at ALL price points. This is a reason I can’t stand when he tastes Rosemount, he never likes it and niether do a lot of us.
