Thanks for featuring such a diversity of wines. Alsace region; malbec and carmenere grapes. Though 3 out of 4 of the wines didn’t get the nod, you constantly show this wine newby new things about wine. Thanks Gary.

Live WLTV should be cool, for those with solid broadband connections. Time frame maybe tough but I will try and be involved. I heard a rumor that Mark Gastineau may be a guest!

QOTD: We snuck into a theater in an attempt to see Jaws but picked the wrong door and got into the middle of Coming Home. Ugh! Not what we little punks had in mind so we were nice enough to ruin it for all of those serious minded folks around us.

Live WLTV – have to see it, in action. Here are issues and suggestions:
* Many times I am in meetings at 1:30 (PST), so may not be able to catch it live. I assume it will posted “unlive” after taping.
* I like you focused on the wine at hand – so it may be distracting to see you split your focus (half on the wine you are drinking and half on the comments you are getting).
* I think the real power of the live show would be to send out, 3 weeks ahead of time, the wines you are tasting for the live show. Then the east coasters, can leave work early, and can taste live with you – and compare notes live and live debate and chatter. Now that would be the huge benefit of live WLTV and worth leaving a meeting for!!!!!

I can’t believe how many times I’ve heard that name in the last week… Zind-Humbrecht. This will definetly be the last hint that is required. I’m half expecting a bottle to drop out of the sky anytime now. If one does, I’ll let you know were I was standing.

Hey GV: Won’t be able to get to see your live show Friday thanks to the wife making other plans (I tried to cancel but got “the look”). As such, I’ll ask a question now that’s inspired by the biodynamic tasting. As director of operations, don’t you try a good fraction of the wines that WL carries? As such, why aren’t almost all bottles up to your standards (other than the white zins, something that needs no explanation)? You guys carry lots of great stuff but what goes through your head when you pan a serious wine (you stock) during WLTV? If you’ve answered this before, my bad. I’m still working back through the early episodes–often while drinking late at night when my recall isn’t the best.

Last thought: not to make excuses for the Clos Roche Blanche Touraine, but 2004 was awfully challenging for that part of the world. I’d bet anything that the ’05 willl be loads better.

If there is someone out here that can enlighten me as to the perceived(by me) huge differences between the “organic vrs. biodynamic” farmers it would be appreciated..thanx. QOTD..The Ten Commandments, it was banned by the Catholic Church before release but my mom hid us in the car before entering the drive-in. She was the greatest!!! Am I old or what!!!!

QOTD: Foul Play

Gary, When I was 18 I worked briefly on a biodynamic farm in NJ of all places! It was called Genesis farm and was near Blairstown. One thing I think should be said about biodynamics is that most of the soil and plant treatments are really more similar to homeopathic remedies in that there is only a tiny amount of cow horn or whatev that is stirred many times into huge amount of water. It’s basically homepathic medicine that treats the whole system of the plants with the soil being most important. For anyone who believes in importance of terrior (uniqueness of place) biodynamics makes complete sense. Healthy soil and surrounding ecosystem helps wine to express itself and it’s terrior more clearly. I find it really exciting tha this movement is taking off as it is a remedy to wines becoming homogenous and “Michele Rolandized. “
