Not had any of these Chards, NJ should stick to the Cab Franc. QOTD-a little late for this. http://www.winelx.com

Love the new format. The quick links are great. Good luck trying to select the wine for tomorrow. You are getting a lot of great suggestions. It should be a classic episode. Another idea for the white board–“I’m with Stupid——->” 😉

    Gary:

    Please try:

Chateau De Francs Cotes De Francs Les Cerisiers 2003 – Library Code: 5171

A 2003 Bordeaux for $14.99 that got a 90 on the WS. Is this wine for real?

These five wines would make an excellent episode…..a Cali petite syrah, a rioja, a barbaresco, a Saumur-Champigny, and a South African Shiraz!!!!!

    https://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=29964

    Wines are, in order:

    1. Carver Sutro Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard 2004
    2. Finca Allende Calvario Rioja 2002
    3. Abrigo Barbaresco Vigna Montersino 2001
    4. Roches Neuves Saumur Champigny Marginale 2003
    5. Thelema Shiraz Stellenbosch 2003

    Now that’s five different wines.

I’ve heard a few good things about each of the above listed wines. It would be nice to see you do an episode with four or five great wines and recommend all of them. Even if you don’t do these tomorrow, keep them in mind for the future.

    Gary,
Thanks for branching out and tasting some wines from new regions. In all honesty, I feel that NY and Canada for that matter do have an identity…Riesling. Cave Spring actually makes a very nice semi-dry riesling, not to mention ice wine, which could very well be NY’s and Canada’s claim to fame. The Niagara Peninsula is trying to step up quality with new wineries such as Warm Lake, who have invested heavily in producing a top notch pinot noir. While it has yet to perform in the QPR area, I beleive with time they may be one worth watching. Jackson Triggs is another nice Niagara Peninsula winery. The best part of it all is that with wine, like you always say, to try something new. I beleive the key is for these wineries to find the right balance to producing wines that will sell (for instance, making your standard quaffing Chardonnay that inevitably sells and allows the winery to profit) and making truly unique wines that when you taste them you can undeniably say, now thats a Niagara Peninsula Wine!…and mean it in a good way. Keep up the work, you truly are an invaluable resource to us all!
    Cheers,
    Mike

Awwwwww GV man. Why Cave Springs? You finally choose a Niagara wine …….. and you choose them. We have sooooo many nice wineries. Try Rieslings from Reif Wineries (started and owned by a German whoose family owns winery in Germany), Thirty Bench (actually my fav, and a nice selection of reds and whites —- Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gwertz, Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, and a really nice Pinot Noir), also wineries like Marynissen, Strewn, Peller Esates, Henry of Pelham. Harder to find, but worth the look.

Also, pleeeaaaaassssseeee find me a Chard I can love. Its been soooooooo long.

Didn’t someone yesterday ask for an on location WLTV at Jets Stadium??
    If only, huh GV??

I liked when you asked how far away Valenzano was from WL! A little nervous about pissing off those Jersey winemakers, huh? 2.5 hours. They will be there soon!

How about a very good 2005 Spatlese?

    http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=28207 Library Code: 28207

Those Austrian Pinot Noirs that someone posted earlier sound great too.

  • Colin

Let me echo the comments of OttawaB comment 119….you should have at least tried the Cave Springs Riesling Dry or the Riesling Off-Dry. As you said in the ep, Riesling is a much better varietal for this area….

Oh well, there’s always another episode…
