Huge # of comments, maybe the most up to this point. Don't have that many Bordeaux in Cellar (over priced), much more Cali Cabs. Nice to own a wine store… QOTD-tonight (Cab) 3 yrs ago?? http://www.winelx.com

    Going for 35O…halfway there.

QOTD: 2002 Goundrey Offspring Cabernet Sauvignon from Western Australia…nice restrained Cab with great balance, not a fruit bomb.

woo woo! Nice episode GV…as always…

QOTD: I am actually not drinking tonight… Yeah I know…Its a sin or something… But whats worse than me not drinking tonight, is I’m in Napa and I’m not drinking!
I find out about if I get a job at a winery tomorrow, and I figure I will either drink to celebrate or drink to drown my sorrows tomorrow.

    Steve K-
    Congratulations
on the birth of your child.
I take care of my nephew 3 days a week.
I hope you already got your sleep
    because those days are over.
I am happy for you and your family!

  • The verdict is in: I blind tasted the $29 dollar 2000 Leeuwin Artist Cabernet Sauvignon with the $9 dollar Concha y Toro Cabernet and although I detected a slight difference, I liked both of them equally. I guess my wine ignorance leads me to money saving bliss.

$185 is a value huh? I gotta move to your ‘hood man. Too bad the old Reisling was a dud, but I bet it was cool to even get a shot at it. You know, corks are corks whether they’re real cork or synthetic cork. You’re never going to get a perfect seal. Air will always leak in (seein’ as how that’s what air does for a job) and over a long period of time will do some damage. Has any winemaker ever considered just flame sealing the neck of the bottle so that the bottle is perfectly airtight? Might be worth doing for some of those **s-kicking 2005’s you were talking about. If they have the chance to mature for 50 or 75 years, why not give them every advantage. Now, opening a flame sealed bottle could be a bit of a challenge, but if it was sealed right and maybe pre-scored, you could just snap off the top cleanly and there you’d have it, 80 year old wine with no influence from air.

Got a bottle of 2005 Winner’s Tank Shiraz open on the counter.

  • Great episode today, Gary. I am not drinking tonight, but I should be. My son broke a window playing lacrosse against the house and my dog ate my sushi. Maybe I will go look for something now (are you doing this for subliminal advertising? I wonder…)
Thanks again for all the excellent episodes. I really enjoyed the Sancerre episode yesterday, since it is one of my favorites.

Yo Gar! Welcome back Bro! It’s good to hear from ya again!
