Nice shout outs! It is true, having such an inviting welcome to the forum has made it seem a little less intimidating!

I had my first Super Tuscan the other day at Olive Garden(I know, I know) and that being said, it seems like what was very similar to the Poggio Al Tesoro.. Unfortunately I paid $10 for the glass… I could have thrown a few more “bones” in and bought a bottle of wine instead =-( such is life. At least my splurge for the month included a decent dinner!

  • I’d love to see a show on the “under-valued-Super-Tuscans”

nice rinse with the $130 Solaia – what was that $15 in the bucket?

The film ‘Sideways’ may have contributed to the current obsession with Pinots but it had little to do with the decline in favor, and price, of the Super Tuscans. It was, in fact, ‘Mondovino’, a film that spotlighted, shall we say, unsavory cultural aspects of the wine world, including Tuscany, that has contributed to Super Tuscan decline. And in that film James Suckling, of Wine Spectator, was especially grotesque, this one recalls.
Wine is as much a cultural as a gustatory product. Breaking the rules, well, celebrate if you like, but there is always a new boss.

Super T’s are amazing. I try to get some bottles each year for the cellar. On my deathbed (many decades from now, I plan on sipping Medocs, Barolos, and Super T’s………. then I can go to the great beyond). My favourites are Solaia, Guado, Tig, Solengo, and Ornellaia on the higher end. But check out Frescobaldi’s other Super Tuscans: Mormoreto (60% Cab, 25% Merlot, 15% Cab Franc) and Lamaione (100% Merlot). Both are amazing, big, and a bit cheaper.
Lucente (Luce’s little sister) ain’t bad either.

Also, Frescobaldi now runs all of Luce/Lucente.

    Great show GV. Thanks.

Light blue is a very delightful color on you. You look a little bit tanner. And the hair â?? itâ??s so very NOT flat today. Spunky!

    Nice detail on the apple.

QOTD: Drama! Drugs! Excitement! Barry Bonds.

But, who gives a crapâ??s ass.

    Gary,
I remember the coca cola candies-they were shaped like little coke bottles, yet tasted nothing like real coke! I think you can still buy them in my home town which seems to still be suck in the 80’s. What is with your recent obsession with Christina Aguilera?
QOTD: Sorry I was never a big sports fan “Who gives a craps ass??!!”

What a fascinating episode – filled with talk of histoire et terroir!

Mega Birthday congrats to Brandon, a great guy who’s helped me far more than I had any right to expect.

Special congrats to Little Sis Liz — as a former 6th Grade teacher in Harlem, I have the deepest appreciation and highest respect for your accomplishment!

QOTD: Actor Joe Campanella. Back in the 80’s, he was my son’s Little League coach. An inspiration to parents and kids alike, this amazing man and his loyal assistants, Sal Consolo and Val Drusen, brought my son’s team from the very bottom of the barrel – to the East Valley Championship.
Joe only ever cared about the kids, never about the championship — he said “I’d just like to get them to the playoffs, that’s all. Whatever happens after that is in God’s hands.”
My son David and I will remember that championship season and Joe Campanella for the rest of our lives.

QOTD…Tom Seaver. I was a pitcher in little league the HS, worked out a little scholarship action with tom terrific as my hero…

Sipping now on a Brancaia CC.2000. Great with the chicken sauted in garlic and olive oil with side of spinach.

Super tuscans rock. The first thing I did on first visit to Tuscay was reach down, scoop up some limestone dirt in the olive grove we were in, and tasted it. you can taste it and smell it in the glass. I love the terrior in good Italian wine.

    My fav…Flaccianello.

Ive sent the emails already but again, congrats to Liz and Brandon!

QOTD: No one person stands out for me in particular .
Sports figures have had more of a negative impact on me than positive. I don’t even watch NBA any longer. Too many spoiled brats, bad boys and whiners.

I do love NCAA basketball. Go Bucks!!!!!!

Great episode!!! I love the Tuscan wines. My wife and I
came back from Tuscany a couple moths ago. I don’t know much about
the rules there but the “rooster” label is what I was told to buy.
Love most of the Chianti Classico’s.

I have had the Antinori Guado Al Tasso 2000 several times and have some also in my cellar. Your reaction to this wine pretty much hits head on in my house. While I love this wine my wife is not a big fan of it.

    BTW…your Italian wine pronunciation….lolololol

QOTD: Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards – British (English, I think) long-jump skier. His attitude and achievement in the sport is the greatest remedy to the seriousness and intensity with which sport in general is weighted down.
