Good show. Love your enthusiasm and I love the fact that there are solid, drinkable wines out there that everyone can afford. I sometimes despair when I see all of the wine at $30 – $40+ per bottle. Thanks for pointing out some of the good, inexpensive choices for us. Maybe all tasting should be done with a bag over the bottle to avoid allowing the label to interfere with your sensory evaluation??

QOTD 1 – I would like to see a comparison of well-made, (90 point?) red wines made from different grapes, perhaps syrah, cabernet sauvignon, merlot and zinfandel – all from the same region – California for example. How are the wines different? How are they similar? Are there regional characteristics imparted to all of the wines by the soil or the growing environment that influence, but don’t override the character of the grape used to make the wine. That sort of thing. This is something that appeals to the wine newcomer like me, but might be a little boring for the long-time Vayniacs.

QOTD 2 – I rarely feel in control.

  • First off, I didn’t have any problems viewing the show, second- great episode! It’s always nice to hear respectable wine connoisseurs showing appreciation and sharing their views on the good $10 bottles.

QOTD: I’d say either go with the South Africa episode (I’m partial to anything African as Kenya is my home) or else, perhaps an episode on how to do/plan/make/layout a home wine cellar (that is, if you haven’t done an episode like that yet).

And yes I feel poised and controlled.

Great show, love the trash talk about labels likewise with good labels bad wine. QOTD – Do a show on Chennin Blancs “The most under rated warm weather wine.”

Watching notes: Great episode. Irreverant, clever, and charismatic without forcing it. Very easygoing. I give it a 93.

QOTD: I’d like to see the 2002 Domaine Nizas Cotes Du Languedoc (WLcode# 31174). It would also be great to see an episode on changing palates sometime. What I mean is that you could do an ep composed of nothing but wines you’ve already tasted on WLTV, and see what you think of them this time around. It might sound like a waste of time, but it might be fun to explore how different the palate can be from day to day. Besides, if you did such an episode you could at least have one ep in which you wouldn’t have to score anything (because they’ve already been scored). You could just see how the tasting notes change.

Nice one Gary, hope you were watching last night as the Raps beat your Knicks…I almost got on the court and killed Francis when he closeline dmy boy Parker.
QOTD – I agree with spautz in comment #62. It’d be cool to see you do a vertical tasting with 4 or five wines. Don’t think you have tried that yet.

oh oh, I see what is happening. Your website does not like the (less than) sign since I said I do not care about less than $10 wines or ugly labels.

    A third time:

QOTD: I have three options: 1) VIRGINIA whites esp Horton Viognier; 2) South African wines which has been mentioned and 3) Dominus vertical, i.e. ’87, ’88 and ’89.

    Cheers!

QOD: Gary, I sent you an email re: doing a show on Bret-infected wines. Those “horsey”, “barnyardy” old-school cabs and Bordeauxs that dad would drink with a filet and a cigar in the early 70’s. Finding new wines in this style has become a sport for me…love ’em.

QOTD: How about some pinotage? I’ve had three in my lifetime: One stunk to high hell, one was extra-average, and the other was one of the best wines I’ve ever had. And you’ve never done a Pinotage!

If you do Virginia whites as mentioned, may I suggest the Williamsburg Winery Acte 12 Chardonnay.

Or how about Cal-Ital? Recently I was impressed by the 2002 Monte Volpe Sangiovese (from Mendocino). It came in at only $15 “bones” and was surprisingly good.

A number of years ago a friend served fruit wine not made from grapes. The wine was from Virginia. Don’t think this is a tomorrow episode, but if we’re really after changing the wine world why not do something unconventional.
