In the Dirty Dozen. Nice show and its nice to know a red doesn;t fall apart after 24 hrs on the kitchen sink.

  • Wow. Great to be back from a 5 day vacation to the Cape (Cod) in the rain. At least I have a few GREAT episodes to settle down to.
Love the South African theme, and it’s ironic since THAT’S a cape I’d like to be at.

QOTD: it’s the anniversary of my wife and I meeting 13 years ago, so I’m opening up a Ridge Geyserville Zin blend 2003. She’s recently fallen in love with this wine (I’m trying to push her into my obsession…slowly) and we had the 02 and the 04 on vacation.

Good to be BACK GV, keep up the goodness.

Don’t worry Gary, you’re not the only one who feels the urge to break out into Avril Lavigne tunes…just make sure you wash your mouth out with cristal afterwards

    Hey GV!

Weird although interesting episode, very educative…. The Vayniac nation will be represented on all the sporting fields in Spain as I received yesterday my 2 wristbands here in Valencia!!! It really made my day, thank you so very much for about us so much! No special bottle from my collection will be opened this weekend but I will attend a special tasting held for the America’s Cup of sailing which is taking place right now here… 60 amazing producers from around the world with of course, a great deal of Spanish ones… Will try to keep you guys informed!

  • I did this last week, just by coincidence. Opened a 2005 Marquis Philips Shiraz. First night, super loud fruit bomb. Then vacuvin and fridge overnight. Night 2 a little smoother. Vacuvin and fridge again. Night 3 – wow!! Super smooth blueberry delight. The heat was gone, and the fruit bomb was defused. It was just an amazing treat. Try it, Vayniacs and lurkers. Seriously fun experiment.

QOTD: My husband and I are having syrah/shiraz from a different place each night this week, culminating in a special one this weekend: 2005 Glaetzer Shiraz Amon-Ra. If we love it (and we fully expect to), we’ll go grab another bottle or two to save for a few years.

I’ve been so curious about this kind of experiment . . . the only reason I haven’t is that it would cost me $100 to perform it with reasonable quality wines, and man, what a waste (or what a hangover, depending on how you look at it.) Great episode and interesting insight. Additionally I’m curious to see it again with other wines – – particularly a low-rent but decent bottle. I imagine that a cheaper bottle wouldn’t hold it’s flavor as well. Less spikes in its hair and tattoos on its arms.

QOTD: A friend just gave me a bottle of Longview 2004 Block 11 Cabernet Sauvignon that I might crack.

QOTD: Good question and a most appropriate time to open a “special” bottle. I’ll choose between a 2000 Reignac or the ’97 Dominus and do my own personal review.
