Gary, I Love You, You know I do, but Jeeeez you’ve gotta move dose bottles outta da way of da faces! Poor Dick had a bottle up his nose half the time! Maybe there’s another way of having the bottles there but not directly in the way? Maybe create a table with two levels so the bottles can be a bit lower once you are done with them?

Hey, I just want the show to be better, and more polished, like that awesome Bordeaux that originally got me SO into wine in ’85!

Good episode, though … rubbing elbows with the big boys, eh? Kudos!

Hahaha, I just read one of the other comments: you DID look a wee bit puny compared to those guys! It was fun. Don’t worry, your big personality shone through … you’ve got charisma, mixed with utter honesty, and THAT is a winner combo in my book; a breath of fresh air in this increasingly homogenous culture.

  • I have absolutely no problems with Gary’s comments about our wines and, as a 35+ year professional I felt his comments were right on. Was I defensive? Always… Admittedly, I spend way too much time in the cellar so when I do climb out into the sunlight, I appreciate HONEST comments. I will offer that, once the camera shut down we had a discussion of the 02 Zin being possibly corked. So we opened a second bottle and it was significantly fresher and brighter, more characteristic of the ’02 56. Yeah, we use corks and don’t plan to change in the near future so we get the occasional corked bottle. Over the past 10 years I have opened hundreds (thousands??) of bottles (mine and others). I honestly believe the cork suppliers are closing on the TCA problem and feel the corks are way better now than 10 years back. But… They are not yet perfect! I had a good time tho admittedly am not the pro that Gary nor my partner Vermeil is. I am most content kicking clods or thieving barrels and love it when someone enjoys our products as much as we enjoy making them. Immense thanks for the comments and for purchasing products from a family owned business! http://www.onthedgewinery.com

sniff sniff – is that a little pandering I smell. Wondering if your taste buds and comments would have been the same without those guys present. I like the idea of guests on WLTV and even tasting wines with the winemakers- just wondering how you would rate them if tasted blind.
    Thanks

  • Charbono, never heard of … Are there any European wineries that produce Charbono wines?

Very fun episode. Top 5. As much as I like all WLTV, it is great to have interesting visitors once in a while.

Wow. Dick Vermeil. Been watching wltv for about two months and it takes bringing on a sure-fire hall of fame NFL coach for me to delurk.

    Great work with the show.

My big brother isn’t as pretty as Coach Vermeil, but they are quite a pair and do indeed make some awesome wine! Enjoy all elements of the show and future ones as well!

I have to tell you, the little Twitter comment that you made about the Vikes stung a little (living in MN and all), but I’m still trying to catch up with episodes and about 5 minutes after seeing that comment, I was going through downloading some old episodes and I came across this one….

I may live in Mpls now, but I grew up just North of Philly (and I’ll always be an Eagles fan) and Dick Vermeil has superhero status as far as I’m concerned. What a tremendous human being.

Anyway, as I commented somewhere else a couple of minutes ago – thanks and keep up the fantastic work. Also, I’m in my early 30’s and the references to kid stuff from the 80’s is totally nailing it for me – nostalgia city….

I’m not really feeling this episode. Little too much ass smooching going on. Several uncomfortable pauses, bad attempts at jokes, miscues, and generally a kid wedged between two old fogies aspect. Dick and Paul were very long winded which clashed with GV’s upbeat and to the point style. Describing Paul as anti-social would be a huge understatement (I did read his comments though and he seems like a good dude). The biggest surprise was that Dick didn’t start crying at any point like he did at every post-game press conference with the Chiefs.

A KC Boy should really be more excited about Dick Vermeil!

I actually had the Edge cab and thought it was decent, but my mouth was kind of cooked at that point.

Great episode, Gary. As much as I hate the Rams (Seahawks, baby!), It was nice to see a celebrity with a lot of passion about wines. Also nice to see you didnt have to trash the wines right in front of them. QOTD: My sense of humor. I dont hold back and stay true to my weird random behavior. If I think something is funny I say it, and damn the consequences.

interesting episode, thanks Gary. Especially loved hearing about their charbono. great to hear something about that rare cult grape. A great wine for more people to learn about and seek out, I hope it’ll be worth it enough to gain its own tasting episode soon.
    Or my question of the day. How many wine library tasting episodes does it take, to do one on different charbono’s? {question is meant all in good fun.}

But anyway, yet another great episode Gary, looking forward to many more.

  • The California Kid

Interesting episode. Definitely better with just Gary (and no vintners) on. Loved the Charbono portion, mainly bc I love Charbono itself.

For anyone interested in trying some great Charbono, check out this new producer called Three Rights Left. They only make Charbono right now, but this stuff is super enjoyable to drink. Not quite as good as Foley or Turley, but half the price.
