I like my beaujolais crus. They’re a different world compared to the beaujolais villages.

And beaujolais is the lowest classification followed by beaujolais villages, followed by beaujolais cru’s.

(Been a lurker for a few episodes now… First comment.)

QOTD: I’m a kosher wine drinker, so as it is, I’m constricted varietal-wise. I don’t believe that there is any kosher Beaujolais exported from France. If I’m correct, then we have only imitation Beaujolais (Nouveau) from Gamay grapes grown in the Golan Heights. The latter is a delicious, fruity wine, though it goes bad very quickly.

Am I correct in assuming that what Gary was tasting was prepared with a crush-fermentation and not carbonic maceration?

    Great Show

After writing Beaujolais off as weak soda, I may need to reconsider

Thanks for exposing me to it again

QOTD: I’ve always loved Beaujolais in the summer, nicely chilled. It’s SO easy to drink — even without food.

Great shout-out to Kermit Lynch! I am a huge fan of his wine, I live close to his retail store, and shop there a lot. Also, I highly recommend his book (Adventures on the Wine Route)- it helped shape my thoughts about wine and it’s just a lot of fun. Along with the Vayniaks (with a little bit a’ Gary), Kermit has been changing the wine world.
QOTD: I like beaujolais a lot, probably drinking a couple bottles a month this time of year.

  • QOTD: Not very experienced with the Beaujolais, so I would have to go with No on that one Alex.

QOTD: Too young to form any predjudices. Don’t even know who George Duboeuf is. Have had Beujolais several times and they were delicious.

Nice episode, thanks for showing us the other side of Gamay.

QOTD: Hell yeah I’m biased, they typically taste pretty poor!

As usual right on the money, these are great wines that are the Rodney Dangerfield of the wine world. They are perfect for summer. One of the most memorable meals I ever had was a lunch at Mama’s Fish House in Maui where I had Ono paired with a 5 year old 1998 Moulin a Vent from George Duboeuf. At least for me they do improve with mid term storage, for instance the 2003’s are drinking great right now. The only problem I have with them is that the Mabileau Bourgeuil 2005 does everthing in a similiar fashion only better. I fear that this wine has changed me forever.

QOTD: No prejudice, how could I with a teacher such as you

By the way…the white board made no sense. I still missing…guys? Gary is there something we should know about? Don’t ask Don’t Tell?

Another eye opening episode Gary! I’m just following your recs and try something new: Did you ever had a “Scheurebe” or a “Domina” wine from Germany?

    QOTD: No.

  • QOTD: Yes, I do have a prejudice against Beaujolais, especially Beaujolais Nouveau. They are way too tutti-frutti for me!

QOTD: this is the one spot in the wine world where I am ahead of the curve. When I was a young man, on a date, I was at a nice restaurant and orderd a Cru Beaujolais, of course I had no idea what I was ordering! I lucked out! The wine had a great floral bouquet, and tasted great. I have been a fan ever since!

QOTD – Yes, only tried one and it was George’s Nouveau and did not care for it at all…

Some frinds of ours love Gamay Rouge which is a pink, and I am not to keen on that either…BUT if my Sensei says we should try a real Beaujolais and have an open mind….we will.

QOTD: I’m always open to different varietals, so no, I don’t have any preconceived notions about Beaujolais. I am a little reticent about hitting up Beaujolais Nouveau again. I haven’t had it in a long time, and I am afraid that I will be extremely let down…
