great episode dude – will retract the bad things i wrote for you not putting a CA gewurzt in the show.

“it’s not just hockey anymore” – quality stuff.

go to Florida or poor TS may get desperate.

QOTD: Michigan — Southwest MI and northern MI are making some solid wines and that time of year is quite scenic.

    TS is already desperate.

QOTD: SEATTLE, it’s time for you to come to Washigton State the second largest
    wine producer after California.

Nice choice Crouch. I’d have to agree…I’m from that area, and some of my favorite domestic white wines are from the northern Michigan area. Can’t beat the color up there!!

  • Darlene O.

    Great episode, Gary, although I’m still a big red wine fan. QOD: Well, I can’t say L.A. ‘cuz you did S.F. How about Las Vegas? I say that selfishly, ‘cuz it’s a not-so-far drive for me, you know? :}

  • Thanks for the Gewurtz episode. I’ve been wondering about these.

QOTD: Personally, I’d love it if you came to Vegas or Reno, but maybe I’m being selfish. Maybe the Vayniacs should organize a political rally in Houston centered around the shipping issue, and you could show up to lead the parade.

  • Oh man, you gotta come to the PHOENIX area.

Washington State, especially Tri-cities, Columbia & Yakima valleys.

I still prefer Riesling with spicy foods, but agree that Gewurz is unique & everyone should try them.

It’s gotta be the Niagara area this Fall GV. Buffalo would also be close (give it to Buffalo,………… they never win anything). If its in this area then the Ontario Canucks can join in.
We’ll show you some really good Niagara wines (Rieslings, Sauv. Blancs, Chards, Merlots, and both Cabs). Plus it is a beautiful area (Niagara) in the Fall. We can even do a mini tour of some of the wineries there (just to be different from the other road shows). Plus there are a number of Buffalo Vayniacs.

Come on up for some good old Northern hospitality .

I’m a big fan of Gewürztraminer; I first had the Pierre Sparr Reserve at a restaurant. I haven’t found much else at the wine stores I frequent. I’ll keep an eye out for Canadian now.

QOTD: Check out North Carolina. We live in Charleston, SC now but we’ve had some solid wine from NC. I’ve liked wines from Childress and Biltmore. I can’t stand the over-the-top-sweet muscadine wines but there are some other nice things around.

  • QOTD: RICHMOND VA BABY!!! I know not an exciting journey from NJ, but we would love to have ya!!!!!

A word on the Niagara Peninsula – ROCKIN’- I was able to get a couple of days there on a business trip in Canada last year and loved every minute of it. I knew prior to go how famous they were for their icewine but did not expect much else. WOW was I amazed, polished reds (cab franc and Merlot killed), vibrant, balanced Chardonnay and of course GUVURTZZ!!! I actually stopped at Malivoire while I was there and it was fantastic as you put it today. Also, Inniskillin Ice Wine is truly fabulous although expensive.

A shout out from my home state to Gewürztraminer, Afton Mountain Vineyards produces an estate grown Gewurztraminer that is simply fabulous, seek it out!

QOTD how about Philadelphia. Good ep. I really like the Albert Mann Gewurztraminer so I will be very happy to try a different one. P.S. Three spills? I think you should use the big azz glass for the show, and send me that Vayniac glass 😉

GV, you’re explosive!! TORONTO, TORONTO, TORONTO. PleeeeEEEeeease come and rescue us!!! You have to stop by and win us Torontonians over. And hey, we didn’t get a bad score today so what do you say?!

  • QOTD: now that I have moved, my vote is for Columbus OH!

QOTD: Denver is very nice in the fall. Its a great city with an exploding food and wine scene, with Vail and Aspen near enough that we can share a little in the snob factor.

Good trivia with “Gewurtz” and “spice.” I need to find more Gewurtz for the cellar. QOTD: Boston. I would say Providence, RI (current residence) but I doubt we would get enough votes to bring the GV to RI. So, Boston.

Minneapolis…there is no better place than the land of 10,000 lakes in the summer. I will show you and liz around. We have wine shops galore. Perhaps not a ton of vineyards but we do have a few – they make some sweet wines. If you are going to make another episode on how ‘weather’ affects wine…here is the place to make it.

  • As luck would have it, I’m organizing a Gewurz tasting for some friends for Thursday. Excited about getting my hands on a bottle of that Canadian Gewurz to round things out a bit.

QOTD: So simple it need not even be asked. Skip the cities this go around, and come up to Mendocino county. Plenty of great places to stay, lots of interesting wineries and things going on, and I’ll take you out surfing. What could be better?

  • Mr. Ambassador

You need to plan a visit to Washington State; if not on your next trip then certainly the springtime would be a great choice. I recommend a visit during the Spring wine-releases and a tour of the Walla Walla area too! With the annual wine production and popularity of Columbia, Yakima and Walla Walla it should seriously be considered.
