#4, baby! Cool blend. I’ve gotta try one.

What about more subdued versions, like Alkoomi, or heck, throw in a Cote Rotie to compare.

  • Have had the d’Arenberg Laughing Magpie Shiraz/Viognier, and it was absolutely great. Big fruit bomb exploding in your mouth! Definitely one for all to try.

    great ep.

i still have yet to try a cote-rotie. Sounds like some of these are great alternatives at half the price.

    QOTD: Reisling and Grenache.

I have 6 bottles of the 2005 Laughing Magpie Shiraz/Viognier, but was waiting for it to mature a few years before opening. Is it drinkable now, you think?

    GV,
Seek out the Pondalowie Shiraz-Viognier. I haven’t had the Terlato before, but based on your
description, it sounds very similar to the Terlato in style. Also from Victoria (Bendigo district).
Probably one of my wife’s all time favorite wines. Not sure if you can get it in the US (but I am sure
you could find out). We used to get it when lived in Melbourne.

QOTD : Cab Sav (for structure & boldness, red & black fruits) 95% + dry reisling ( for minarality &
citrusy & light fruits) 5%. Would be like a bowl of raspberries, dark cherries & chocolate, with a drizzle of fresh citrus over the top – that would be a tasty desert.

Might have to try that experiment at home

  • Awesome show. Not a lemon in the bunch, really! I’ve only recently gotten to finally try a Viognier, but a red/white blend does sound really interesting.

QOTD: Gewurtztraminer and Pinot Noir would pique my interest. They seem to be on opposite ends of the wine spectrum, at least from my understanding.

Mataro and Rousanne/Marsanne from Barossa. Old vine Mataro where the fruit is extremely dense and the nose is twice as peppery and smokey than most shirazs. The R/M combination would work like a viogner, adding wonderful complexity to the bouquet and ripening some of the harsh, dry tannins of old vine mataro.

Love the Shiraz/Viogner blend. Had both the Mr. Riggs and Terlato/Chapoutier. Couldn’t agree with you more about the Terlato, however the Mr. Riggs I admire a little more that you give it credit for.

Great show! I love watching you get blind sided by a wine that brings the THUNDER.

QOTD: Lets try malbec & riesling or what AnthonyS said
