Gary, take that coat, tie your Sir Gary fill-in and Mr. Garret Nagle the III from Holland and go crawl under that snob rock you came from, bring back the Gary Thunder Show because this isn’t what the Vayniacs want to see. They want the Gary that’s the value driven down to earth crazy kind of GUY!

You might impress 1% of the pipe smokin horse back ridin snob types, but your not impressing 99% of the Vayniacs.

So get on back now ya here.. and bring that couch with ya.

    QOTD:
    90% REDS

burgundies AWESOME!!!!! gary, you might need to bring that rock licker back for another show. he brought some sweet wines with him. great to see a real specific selection. he failed to mention the big difference in the vintages though. 2003 was on fire and a lot of vines even shut down. many of the burgundies lack acidity, in particular the whites. 2004 was less than classique, but good domains made good wine. since 2003 was so hot, and 2004 was quite wet, the vines produced too many grapes and the vineyards needed a ton of care. it is evident that dom selling bottles for $80 has money to do a green harvest and manicure the vines.

QOTD 80 red, 20 white/ i would like to drink more white but my wife prefers the reds. i guess the sir was right, woman do control everything

  • Greg B.

Well done Sir G. QOTD 75% RED 25% white is my Norm, but over the summer it’s more like 65% Red 35% White. Have a fun profitable and safe trip.

    Come back cotter, come back

QOTD: somewhere between 70/30 to 80/20 red to white. I always tell myself I am ignoring the white. And I love Alsace but I don’t drink it nearly enough. But this week is all about ‘Basa’, this beautiful little Telmo Rodriguez white. seek it out, great summer vino.

Your insight is perspicacious, your pallette a battle-hardened veteran with medals and ribbons, Sir G. Reminds me of a birthday luncheon in the mid 70’s where I invited Queen Elizabeth and Henry Kissinger over to celebrate. As I eased the cork from a particularly profound Corton Charlemagne, Liz reminded me that upon first tasting a Corton, Alexandre Dumas fell to his knees and said a prayer. Hank just reached past her for the first glass. Must run. My Swiss banker is ringing me. Ta ta.

  • My consumption ratio is about 60% red, 40% white at home, and probably near 100% white at restaurants simply because of the decanting/oxidation issue.

    Sir Sensei,

Hilarious! Were you really trying to be french? Was little more like boris karloff, especially with the lighting!

Anyway, great fun and as always thanks for filming ahead and keeping us on our toes!

QOTD – 80% red, 20% white (maybe higher % white in summer) Love the NZ Sauv Blancs on a hot day on the boat! Plus some foods just lend themselves to a nice white. Thai food with a nice kabinet riesling or some brie with a sancerre……

    Travel safe,

    Brilliant satire GV!

QOTD: dunno, probably around 85/15. I don’t have anything against whites; I really don’t know why I usually go red.

  • life’s too short…

“…like Italy in the country time.” LOL. Nicely done, Dad. Shooting crows on the weekend. Too funny. Rowing the boat in the Himalayas (one way, I’m guessing). And a “pipe smoker” too, eh? Excellent. Pipe. Laughing. Out. Loudly. As I am wont to do during the Thunder Show. QOTD: 99%:1% about right. . .

I can only hope that “Sir Gary” can find the nearest bridge and jump off it. Will the real GV please stand up!

And here I always thought Sir Gary would have a goatee, but I guess that’s just me.

Careful, that second wine was so good you sounded a bit like someone else we know.

QOD: around 55/40/5, but then I like to go the white-then-red route a lot, and I forgot to stock up on decent rose before summer came. But it’s okay, tomorrow is Thai night so we can experiment with Chablis and Muscadet and other interesting things.

NICE!!! That guy had some good insight! He did slip out of character a few times though. But as always, now we want more. How about next time you do a Aussie wine guy or a hippie Mendicino wine dude. How about a “keepin’ it real” episode like that once a week? qod. 90 red-10 white

  • LOL – Excellent show Gary. I love the character. I hope he pops in now and then. Perhaps you should create some other characters too.

I love how you keep the show fresh and new. Thanks Gary.

Awesome Sir GV, a real treat to see some really sick wines getting tasted. I gotta try that Vincent Girardin, the description is exactly how I like my white burgundies.
