Loving Daily Grape, GV. This is the first WLTV episode I’ve watched since it came out. Wanted to go OLD school.

QOTD: Imaginary story: yesterday, I walked into Wally’s to say hello to Manuel, their Italian buyer. Lo and behold, there was Gary, doing his own zoomie zooms with the wine bottles. I got to taste some Palo Lato Chard with him and shoot the s*** with him about all the great wine stores in the world and how I’m loving his new show. I bought him a bottle of Chinon to taste and then hit the road.

great show G :)…*starts saving for a bottle of the 2004 Chateau Pichon Baron*

    iPhone giveaway:
how about having the vayinacs holding a blind(?) party…inviting a few friends/coworkers/yada-yada that don’t know about WLTV *maybe using the same 3 wines* and the best review sent in of that party get’s the iPhone 🙂

    QOTD:
I was watching Diggnation…when you had your cameo and thought…hmmm…what’s this about…but then my 2 byte memory completely forgot about it until the 8/17 when Kevin “pownced” me with your link and the “D-UHHHH” / “OH YA” comments came flooding back…so I tore off and downloaded your feeds 😀

Gary: I watch WLTV for its educational and entertainment value and appreciate both. I have De Long’s Wine Grape Varietal Table hanging right above my iMac so I can refer to it when you discuss one of the more obscure grape varieties. Perhaps you could do a few more programs expanding our horizons into Kadarka, Blaufrankisch, Auxerrois & Harslevelu, amongst others. Let’s see how some of those wines stack up against Cabs, Shiraz, Chards and Pinot Gris.

Hey Gary! Here is my $.02 : you rock! I’m attending a wine party this weekend. I’m bringing (2) bottles from WLTV. I drank one of the thunder wines (a red under $10–Rhone Rebel Gsm) last week and totally loved it. We are changing the wine world!

QOTD: A while ago, I was showing a friend of mine the episode you did outside when the temp was about 5 degrees and the wind blowing 40 mph.

After we watched it, I said, “Isn’t that great?!”

He said, “No. That guy is really weird. I never want to see that again.”

    Gary,

Your Pauillac tasting has me looking forward to trying the Pichons. Ratings and comments help me focus , but when a wine such as the Baron brings a smile of uncontrolled sublime satisfaction – I have to experience it also. That picture could never be conveyed in any written form.

So, I’m de-lurking and thanking you for your efforts in changing the world.

Yu can’t go way now my first vlog was yesterday! Saw you on “Uncorked” My roommate and I have been looking for a way to â??trainâ? our taste buds and I think youâ??re vlog is perfect for that!

So, weâ??re still learning how this works, do you ever tell before hand what you will be tasting? If you did, we could buy the same thing and taste with you. Then when you explain what youâ??re tasting, we can recognize it with you. What better way to train the â??buds!

Of course, we can always just watch older episodesâ?¦but then you wonâ??t get those two centsâ?¦

SOOOOO happy you did a show on Puillac, especially these wines. i just bought a bought a bottle of 1996 pichon baron (birthday present to myself) and a 1995 of lynch moussas. the lynch will get drunk in the next year or so, the PB is for my 40th in 2015.
i think you are right, the 2004 is the last good buy in bordeaux. buy up the big boys, they made a lot of wine in 2004 and it is good. it will last longer than most of us can wait.
    bravo!
a slightly new approach this season. maybe it is #301 or the french wine, can’t be too enthusiastic in france, not so cool. anyhow, good enthusiasm but not embarrassing. still watch you though. it is these kinda shows that bring me back
    bravo bravo

QOTD: everytime i tell my friends who are getting into wine little, enough to go to the wine store and buy wine there and and talk to the guy, they want the link.

Great show, Gary! Love it when you get so excited over some good wines!

I have absolutely no experience with Bordeaux. I think it’s mostly because I have no idea how to pick them out. My fiancee got a Bordeaux favorite from a coworker of mine at her wedding shower. I cannot wait to share it with her and begin a new region of wines!

If I wasn’t getting married in a couple of weeks, I’d be all over a bottle of Pichon Baron! 🙂

Great, educational show. Here’s to another 300!

QOTD: Wine has been pretty much my only hobby for the past several years. However, it has always been tough to get my friends passionate about it. WLTV has helped immensely – everyone I’ve introduced to the show now watches it every day. They say it’s because you can learn a LOT about wine and start to form your own opinions about it. Keep up the great work.

  • Nathan L

Great QOTD and I’ve got a good one for you. My girlfriend was throwing me a surprise party and a friend of mine was distracting me during the setup. We had been at the lake with some other friends that afternoon and I was supposed to go meet her. My friend was coming up with other things for us to do and I was trying to come up with excuses to go home (but of course without letting my boy know that in actuality I was just afraid of getting in trouble). We stopped at his house and realizing I was going to have to wait for him for a few minutes I decided to watch part of the new episode of WLTV. He had never seen it but was getting into wine. It just so happened that the first wine you were doing was one that he had drank and hated (some Pinot Grigio in a funky looking bottle), he quickly proclaimed that if you didn’t hate it he would never watch again. You proceeded to rate it 45 points because it didn’t even qualify as wine. We proceeded forget about my angry girlfriend and the party and watched WLTV for an hour until my girlfriend called my buddy and yelled at him for not bringing me on time. We were late to my party but a new vayniac was born

Ok, QOTD for the IPhone Giveaway (No, I don’t want it):

Gary V is famous (notorious?) for his graphic descriptions of wines (e.g., imagine a bomb going off in a stable that hasn’t been cleaned in 7 years, and it burns a giant pig that runs off into a vegetable patch, getting covered in cherry tomatoes and green peppers, and then you dunk that pig in chocolate sauce, bite it, and chase it with a dill pickle).

So, the winner of the I-Phone Contest should be the person who comes up with the BEST DESCRIPTION of WLTV. Gary’s show is like . . . . .

  • Gary, long time lurker giving you some comment love. As for the contest, a few other blogs I read have given away stuff by having people leave 1 comment (1 comment only per person) on the contest post and then they randomly pick from that list.

While this doesn’t really reward any one person, the word usually spreads pretty quick and brings a ton of people in.

Love the show Gary! Congrats on 300. I am a long time lurker but haven’t left a comment until today. I am also a big WineLibrary fan. You guys are a class act. I wish you had a store in Austin TX. Keep up the the great work. You are truly what the wine experience is all about. BTW, nice pic in the WSJ today.

Great show GV. Great timing for this show also. I was VERY lucky to particpate in a vertical this weekend of some great Bordeaux vintages (’82, ’85, ’89 and ’90) that included an ’89 Pichon Baron. Was great to get your insight on a recent vintage. In addition to Pauilac, we threw in some others (Graves – ’85 Mission Haut-Brion) and Pomerol. Amazing how uniquely different each area and wine can be. Now a non-lurker.

QOTD: I’m new, so not too many stories (yet). BUT here we go on one: My friends have been poking fun at me for watching/listening to this blog all the time… so i finally got them to watch Gary on Conan. They thought it was HILARIOUS (of course)! So, i explained to them why Gary was making Conan eat all that crazy stuff, and they got interested… and now two or three of them are learning about wine and watching the show and are on the road to becoming Vaniacs! I totally win!

On another note: Gary, I must admit that I am totally guilty of buying based on label design when I want to try something new… I’m a graphic designer, so I’m drawn to the labels that are well-designed… and I figure, if i’m trying random new wines it’s a good way to figure out what i want to get. I would TOTALLY be interested in a show on buying blind, cause region, grape and label design are usually how i decide.

    I think that’s at least $.25 worth!

  • Congratulations on the 301st episode
Hers my 2 cents since I have been watching (end of 2006, but have watched it all) lots has changed
I was not al all familiar with wine. I practically knew nothing but always hade a passion for wine. As a young kid I would squeeze grapes and put them in an empty soda bottle in the seller of our house and was always frustrated to find it a week later full of mildew
Any way thanks to you Gary I now am fairly educated and trying new bottles every week as you can see in my Corkâ??d account. I have also planted two Riesling vines in my back yard and hope to make my own New York Riesling

As for the iPhone. As someone has supposed you should have everyone rate a particular wine in there Corkâ??d account with flavor profiles (all entries should be in at a given date then gather all the results in a spared sheet) then you would rate that same wine on a show and the one with the closest ratings will be the winner
You will get lots of people to go back and watch as many episodes they can to learn how you rate and you will get them all to start Corkâ??d accounts which I think is the best part of WLTV and last but not lest you will be sold out of that wine

Hay and what happened to the Gravatar? I miss it!

Lurker coming out of the woodwork to leave a comment, I suppose two cents an episode isn’t a bad price for such a great show. 🙂 Unfortunately I haven’t said anything and have been watching since a day or so after the Conan appearance. Cheers Gary, you make a fantastic, interesting show even though I’m 19 and can’t drink wine yet, and don’t even know anything about wine. Keep up the good work.

Oh, and I hope the nixing of “VAY-NER-CHUK” is only temporary?

Iphone challenge. Give the nation a list of the twenty or so wines that you will be tasting next week and have the nation guess your palate, we have watched you over time and now we know our palate and your palate. Just like you can know Parker’s palate when it comes to BIG BOLD FRUITY Bombs… Whoever guesses in exact order with the closest scores gets the phone.
