Loving Daily Grape, GV. This is the first WLTV episode I’ve watched since it came out. Wanted to go OLD school.

QOTD: Imaginary story: yesterday, I walked into Wally’s to say hello to Manuel, their Italian buyer. Lo and behold, there was Gary, doing his own zoomie zooms with the wine bottles. I got to taste some Palo Lato Chard with him and shoot the s*** with him about all the great wine stores in the world and how I’m loving his new show. I bought him a bottle of Chinon to taste and then hit the road.

  • Great show GV, one of the best in my opinion in quite a while! I want to drink some Bordeaux right now! Keep up the good work! Oh yeah, about the iphone; just send it to me along with those bottles you just tasted. Seems like a good plan to me!

I CAN’T TAKE THE SUSPENSE!!! Guess I’ll find out the end to the big mystery count-down later on in the week….

I would say at least %50 of my wine sales in restaurants and liquor stores is based on label design. For shame…for shame.

QOTD: Met those guys at a wine tasting I was conducting… the whole “tasty taste” “sniffy sniff” thing… haven’t had any major meetings since then, but I’ve been encouraging all of my colleagues to jump on the Vayner train!

    here’s a comment

  • These are my favorite types of wine. Love episodes like this. I totally don’t believe he reads all the comments though. You should do the show dressed up as one of the Thundercats because they are taking over your table.

Hey, I thought 2004 was a dicey year in bordeaux, hence why the prices aren’t as high as the ’03s and ’05s. Am I wrong?

Gary, you caught me. I’ve been lurking since I read about you on slate. Love the show. As for the I-phone, have people send you a list 3 or 4 of their favorite underrated or best value wines within a certain price range. Then you can do a show where you taste a couple. Give the i-phone to the person with the best find. This will be a good one for the CKC’s trying to impress their lady or gentleman friends, or anybody for that matter. The only problem is you might get a lot of repeat wines. In that case, I recommend cutting the i-phone into pieces and sending the pieces to the people who sent in the same recommendations.

Do you know of any good PV producers in the US, CA?

    lets hear it for bordeaux->medoc->paulliac!
    lets hear it for wisconsin!
in regards to your love of petite verdot, i recently drank a 2005 eastern australian wine called ‘yard dog’ that was very petite verdot heavy (46%). a fun, if not outstanding wine.

  • Per Friday’s episode, I am creating a new alias that doesn’t affiliate me with Appellation America. . .I don’t want to catch a beef for something that I didn’t do. I think that I can call that my funny WLTV story too.

  • @Joe P. Try Sempre Vive out of Calistoga.

I sure missed the Thundercats craze: don’t understand it and can’t say that I want to.

QOTD: I had turned my wife on to WLTV and her parents live in Jersey. On a reccent visit they ended up driving past Wine Library on the way to lunch. “Stop,” she screamed, “that’s ‘THE’ Wine Library!” Her parents must have thought she was nuts, but at her insistence they stopped and went in. From what I understand the store is immense. Her dad got sucked into the excitement of the moment and ended up buying a case of Bordeaux futures. My wife ended up buying a WLTV shirt for me. At any event, my in-laws probably think I’m nuts…

Speaking of nuts, sitting in front of a computer last Friday with a bottle of Sonsierra Rioja and a truly delicious bottle of Lindaflor Malbec from Argentenia while watching the WLTV taste-along with my wife, Julie the lurker, was perhaps the geekiest thing we have ever done. That said, I was a bit surprised about the light turnout in the comments section. Gary, could it be that you scared them all away with the “singing”?

My six year old daughter has a really great impersonation of Gary V when she talks of aromas of dark cherry, tobacco, cedar box, excellent mouthfeel and a thirty second finish.

Awesome show Gary, thank you – Pauillac and St.-Julien are two of my favorite apps. in Bordeaux.

QOTD: when I went on vacation, I took about 2 dozen wines with me for my family and in-laws. I know it opened their eyes to other varietals out there – I know it led to at least one WL order for you if not two at this point, and I’m sure I added at least one viewer/lurker …

  • More viewers, eh? You could always challenge Robert Parker (or James Laube. Could you imagine him in Clay-mation?) to a “Celebrity Deathmatch” and broadcast it as an alternative to the Super Bown Half-time Show (nobody wants to see a bunch of prancing back-up dancers anyway.) And then, if you get picked up, you can send me the iPhone. If not, I won’t be disappointed; I just want to see you rumble with Parker.

great show – always good to learn about french wines – they are not talked about as much (even with all the great ones)

  • For the iPhone give away have viewers do a Scavenger Hunt of sorts: sign up for a Corkd account, leave a comment on WLTV for 5 days in a row, send/e-mail in a picture with a WLTV t-shirt or wristband (I’m still waiting for mine wink-wink), etc.

Also, I’m a bit surprised Pend d’Oreille Winery receive a Gold Medal for the Idaho Wine Festival. I’ll admit they are one of the best winery in Idaho but its only because they typically use grapes from the Columbia Valley in Washington State.

Hey, just found this place yesterday and have watched about the 10 past eps since then. Good stuff…sorry I missed the first 280. I’m just starting to get into wine seriously, and I think it would be cool to have a pairing contest for the iphone give-a-way. Choose a wine that we can all get our hands on pretty easily, then have an episode where you try the top pairings people come up with, or the ones that intrigue you most.

or, the thunderbirds idea is pretty good too. an iphone could probably fill up your desk with t-birds. in any case, keep up the good (read: entertaining) work.

Give it to the person who has demonstrated (through number of posts here, or some other criterion) to be the most frequent visitor/contributor to winelibrarytvo ro its forum

or just give it to me and I’ll get rid of it for you!

Great show Gary, I will try the Chateau Pichon Baron 2004 and the Chateau Pichon Lalande 2001. How about a show or some advise on “2005 Bordeaux Buying Strategies”, i.e. what would you buy if you had to fill out case for $300, $600 and $1,200?

No funny WLTV stories sorry 🙁
