Loving Daily Grape, GV. This is the first WLTV episode I’ve watched since it came out. Wanted to go OLD school.

QOTD: Imaginary story: yesterday, I walked into Wally’s to say hello to Manuel, their Italian buyer. Lo and behold, there was Gary, doing his own zoomie zooms with the wine bottles. I got to taste some Palo Lato Chard with him and shoot the s*** with him about all the great wine stores in the world and how I’m loving his new show. I bought him a bottle of Chinon to taste and then hit the road.

Excellent ep! The 300’s are off to an great start.
For the I-Phone Giveaway, how about collecting the names of all those who leave comments during the course of one or two week’s worth of shows, put them all in a spit bucket, and pull out one, the winner!

I showed the video of when you attempted to do the live show and showed it some vendors and they were like these idiots don’t know what they’re talking about, like they were really mad about it. None of my other wine co-workers really care about WLTV, the’re just like whatever, so its pretty much my own thing in my world.

QOTD: Sending an email to my friend with the WLTV link for a great episode (un-oaked Chardonnay). At the exact same time getting an email from her with a link to the Slate article about WLTV. We called each other and laughed at the singularity of the moment.

St. Julien has been my favorite Bordeaux area, but Pauillac is a very close second. In two weeks we are having a wine tasting/dinner at the house for the Bordeaux/Sauternes region. We are going to taste the differences between Left and Right bank. (I still get them confused.) We will be opening mostly 1999s. I have the 2003 Arche Sauternes for dessert. (saving the 1990 d’Yquem for a special day)

GARY – When will you taste the Arche again (last one was corked)?

I will be on the look out for the Pichon’s in Oklahoma. They will be very expensive as we have a three tier system in the state and everyone wants a piece of the pie. Wholesale/Distributor/Store

GARY – idea for the I-phone: if possible (technically) see who has left the most comments across the 300 episodes by a certain date. Those that are new can go back and add comments; those that are vanyiacs can compete as well.

QOTD: Was shopping for wine and overheard a couple of clerks talking about the show. I struck up a fun conversation about you and told them I met you at the tasting in Chicago. They especially liked the part about the raffle!!!!! Rember the 2 of clubs??????

Great show today-already ordered some for my cellar!

Great show today! Got a soft spot for the left bank. My wife and I had the pleasure to hit the Pichon Comtesse estate in BX this spring on our honeymoon, was able to taste the ’01 and LOVED IT! Unfortunately with the dollar taking a beating I wasn’t able to take back my weight in the wine. Your prices are better than if I could have shlepped it back on my own. Glad I waited…must check the accounts soon. Looking for some more nice bottles to round out the cellar, must add the Baron and Comtesse, especially at your prices!

  • Very informative episode. I have only had a few chateau level Bordeaux’s on the low end, but it would be great to try these. I’m here sipping my lowly Frascati.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any WLTV stories to pass on.

Still waiting for THE SHERRY EPISODE……..keep me in mind.

  • RD

My kids ( ages 4 and 6) walk around the house saying “let’s give this a sniffy-sniff”.

    Go Eagles.

5 rules to shopping in a wine shop is the best idea ever. That would bring some serious thunder.

    cheers to 300 more.

How about some Tannat and Dornfelder?

Great ep. GV – will have to give the iPhone contest some thought – I am sure a thread on the forums will soon follow. Glad to see my blonde-headed Thundercat figure on the screen today!

Nice episode – still trying to expand my taste of French wines.
Long time lurker and unfortunately, only an occasional viewer as of late (such is life). Was waiting for the opportunity to comment on your “extra special” large tasting glass. In an episode a long time ago you mentioned that you get a lot of comments on the glass but weren’t sure where to get one. I don’t have a perfect solution locally but I saw a lot of these in the shops of Montalcino advertised as Brunello tasting glasses. If this has already been discussed then so be it, like I said I have been only occasionally viewing these days.
Going to have to pay attention on this iphone now that a 18yr has a solution for all of us non-AT&T users.
Any chance on a Carmenere episode? These wines have been seriously hit or miss for me (the hits keep bringing me back).
    Cheers

GV. Nice episode, wish I could afford those wines ๐Ÿ™
QOTD; I was introduced to WLTV by my brother, I had dial up internet so he copied about 60 episodes on a disk, and gave it to me for christmas. I have been a fan ever since. Wine lovers need to watch this blog, if for no other reason THE HONESTY. Who else can pan Opus 1, but Gary. I don’t always add my 2 cents, sorry, I am not that busy, just lazy. You rock! I wish I had your work ethic.

Hey, I just noticed that “new to wine?” badge on the right. That’s a fantastic idea! (although I’ve already seen all of those episodes).

Pauillac was the first appellation I really fell in love with. I’m still reeling from my trip there last spring visiting various Chateaux (about 3 weeks after you were in Bordeaux). Can’t afford the big boys since I’m in the CKC, but I’m building up my cellar with second wines like hauts de pontet, haut bages averous, croix de beaucaillou (not paulliac, but oh well), reserve de la comtesse, etc. Maybe I’ll jump on the boat and splurge for a REAL 2005 paulliac.

    GV,
While at the CMS class in W Palm Beach, I made acquaintances with several of my classmates. I ran into a guy who owns a place in Miami that’s a fellow Vayniac. He asked if I had ever seen this wacky guy Gary Vaynerchuck on WLTV before. LOL. After the blind tastings we would state which wines had “brought the thunder”! As for the iPhone: give it to the guy about to open a French restaurant with a huge Bx list… in October… in Mobile, AL… Thx.

great episode, I’ll probably be in Bordeaux next spring, I’ll have to save some money to be able to afford a couple of cases of the wines presented in todays show. By the way, a big thanx to GV and his crew for sending me the WLTV Oak Tees. Just gave away one of them as a gift to a friend, who was really happy about it. He had to put it on right away when we tasted an Oak Monster wine ….

QOTD – I have been trying to introduce your show to my family members for a long time. They went for your appearance on Conan vs the past year of me saying “you guys should check this guys out”. One of my brother’s now wants to stage a WLTV/Conan-esque tasting… dirt included…

Added a little knowledge with this episode, which is always fantastic. The only WLTV story I have is when watching an episode my wife came into the room, looked at the screen then looked at me, laughed, and called me a “wine nerd”…..one of the proudest moments of my life ๐Ÿ™‚

Looking at the results from the Idaho Wine Festival, Pend d’Oreille seems to be a pretty good winery.

  • I’ve been thinking a lot about a system based on number of comments to give away the iPhone. The main problem with giving out gifts based on user names is that you cant verify true identity. Perhaps if you started a user/password database and start forcing people to login to post a comment, then you can verify a person’s identity. Unfortunately i can’t think of any bullet proof way to offer the iPhone based on the current comment system that isn’t susceptible to fraud. Hell, too many people would just try and claim to be Brandon M, or some other person who posts all the time.

I had thought of identifying people by IP address, but too many people have dynamic IP’s or watch the show and post from multiple locations.

Also, im concerned that creating contests based on comments will generate lots of generic pointless short comments by people trying to fluff the numbers….

QOTD: No stories for me. Although I tell people about WLTV all of the time, I have never met a Vayniac “in the wild.” ๐Ÿ™
