    RESPONSE to ECWine:
I, and many of us, have learned and continue to learn a TON about wine from Gary. You are a simply a POMPOUS snob…..and exactly the kind of person we hope would be agitated by WLTV. Part of me wants to say, “Stop watching and go away”, but I think I’d prefer that you watch EVERY single day and get REALLY, REALLY angry. Get a life!!!

This is your way of leading the unpalatable! â??A little bit of meâ? brings a lot of hype with NO substanceâ?¦. you should be ashamed of not helping those that truly need help.

I have never in my entire life heard such poor examples of â??agricultural artistryâ?? being displayed with such MTVism. You have had some great wines on your show that I would call a â??7 coarse mealâ?? and you have described them as a â??fried chicken tender appetizerâ??!

How can the people learn to develop their mouths, when you are to busy clouding their brains with your clouded mouth? You have developed a great vessel in leading the wine troupes into the beautiful world of wine with WineLibreryTV, but you are only delivering fluffâ?¦ hope your good work gets better soonâ?¦.. In keeping with non-west coast wines, you should check out some cab francs being produced in Virginia . . . Barboursville has been putting one out for some time that’s pretty good.

I forgot to answer QOTD earlier…

I’ve had about 5 different Cab Francs on their own. My favorite is the Beaucanon 2002. I’ve gone through a few bottles of that.

Mr. Mott thank you for all your selfless service. As far as the question of the day I know very little about wine (still) and my memory is not so great either.

  • I have had Cab Francs from many states, Canada, and France. None have beaten Chinons for price or taste. I did a tour or New York wineries including all of the ones you tasted. The Wolfrerwas the best but at $35 again wasn’t as good a buy as Chinon and I can get that more easily than the Wolffer. Most of the rest I tasted were nose and taste-challenged tannic nothings that were too high priced for the wines. Overall, I was not impressed with the NY wines and that was 40 wineries.

QOTD: Havne’t tried any Cab Francs. I like new world fruit bombs. Perhaps I will try the Wolffer. I can’t afford the Hamptons, but I can afford one bottle of Wolffer.

    Yo Mott!

QOTD. I haven’t tasted many cab francs, maybe half a dozen and all from the Loire. I’m not a big fan of vegetal flavors in my wine, but I do like minerality, and some of the Loire cab francs do have a lot of that. One cab franc I’m going to become very familiar with is the 2003 Bourdin Samur Champigny. It was a close-out selling for less than half its regular price. I tasted it and liked it, so I bought a case for myself and two cases (along with a couple cases of Vinho Verde) to bring to a big week-long family reunion at the beach. The family drank up all the Vinho Verde I brought, but only about 5-6 bottles of the Samur Champigny. Go figure.

Cab franc with pizza? I’ll have to give that a try. BTW, thanks for standing up for the idea that pizza deserves good (and maybe expensive) wine. When people use the expression “pizza wine” to disparage a wine, I figure they aren’t eating the right kind of pizza.

    Do I love the Mottster?
Do I love someone who has extendeed me a welcome hand?
Who has shown me his infinite patience?
Who has sent me 12 separate emails?
Do I love someone who, along with Brandon Warnke, deals with my non-geeky retardedness without making me feel like an idiot?
(I couldn’t even get into the Forums, and they showed me how!)
Do I love someone who can’t stand college sports, but who showed me how to access the NCAA brackets?
Do I love someone who encouraged me in the making of my video?
Do I love the person who told me I made the Final Four in the Vayniac T-Shirt Contest?

YOU BET YOUR ASS I DO!!!!!

Oh the lusty Cab Franc, it was the first red I fell for and we’ve been having a seductive affair ever since. Initially intoduced to the classic Loire’s but absolutely fell for NY state. I love that it is finally catching on! Some of my favorites currently are Beaucannon Estates 2002 out of Napa its huge, dense and incrediby satisfying! And from the Finger Lakes… 2002 Hermann Wiemer is still drinking like a dream.

GiddyUP go on and get you some!

I am afraid to say that I have never had a straight cab franc. Because I have only had it a very minor blend component I do not even really know what its characteristics are. Next time I taste brussel spouts in my blend though I will be on the look out.

I love the Mottster, without him to bounce tasting comments off, Gary would not know that not everyone has an encyclopedic knowledge of the taste of every: sweet, medicine, piece of dirt or household appliance that happened to find its way into thier mouth. Good on you Motty.

QOTD – I can’t say I love Mott. But I do like him so I’d be happy to buy him some love. Cab Francs. I’ve had a few.

Also, I’ve been to NY. I tried finding NY wines. 95% of the stuff there is berry flavored wine drink. What’s up with that?

How could you not love a guy with a Black Lab?

QOTD: I have had 1, 100%, one and various blends with CF being the predominate grape. Vinoce 2002 Red…..I know you liked the 2003 but I did not care for the 2002…….

    Seriously, Mott is fantastic.

QOTD: Cab Franc = 0. ‘Tis very sad. Though I’m still so new to wine, there’s a lot I haven’t had. So I’m looking forward to seeking one out and giving it a whirl.

Givin’ some love to the Mott-ster: having a chip on the shoulder is what makes everyone interesting!

QOTD: 0 Cab francs that I can remember. Was in France in the Loire valley, but at a time where I was more interested in whites (Vouvrays) and light reds (Beaujolais). But this wine sounds like it’s definitely up my alley- I’ll have to seek out this particular grape.

THANK YOU, Gary, for finally doing a show on the awesomeness that is Cab Franc. I think it totally out-Cabs cab sauvignon. Love it, love it!

    Also love the Mottster!

QOTD: I’ve tried about ten cab francs. Love them. So, so good. Virginia has some good ones too.

Ex lurker coming out here. I’ll take the easy bait and add my props to mottster.

QOTD: I’ve had two cab francs: one santa cruz mountains (can’t remember the label; definitely more intense fruit) and a Schneider Long Island that was more vegetal. It was great–and not only because it is my namesake vino.
