QOTD: Not being able to receive wine shipments in MA.

This weekend I decided that Chardonnays had become too predictable. I needed a change. Even in a mild Austin summer it’s still HOT and whites still call out! So this evening I find myself enjoying an Albarino and realizing a new dimension. Thanks for the motivation.

Cheer up. You found a Dolcetto for us today and even more importantly, you’ve delivered the message about other varietals. So it wasn’t what you expected – that just lets us know that if we try a wine that disappoints it isn’t necessarily because we won’t like the grape or style. We know, because of you, that there is something better to look forward to.

My first Malbec was a disaster and I didn’t touch another for years because of it. Now I know better. Stay excited. Keep us interested. Let us know what to expect when a wine is done right. You do all of us a great service in letting us observe less than stellar wines in addition to the finding the good ones.

QoTD- What makes me sick is listening to those uppity winedudewannabees standing around in a wineshop, jiggling those coins and keys in their pockets talking about the Silver Oak in their cellars. These are people who think the epitomy of wine is Silver Oak. Wow, they prove to me they know nothing about wine. Oh, I’m a winesteward, that’s how I’ve heard lots of this.

All right, it MAY be time for the intervention. I went back to Friday’s show to double check and YES, you did predict that the Jets would get creamed 31 to 7. What the hell was that, reverse psychology? 🙂 And then to watch the show knowing that deep within your soul you wanted to desperately scream at all of us about how you couldn’t be concerned with something as trivial as wine when the Jet’s world was in jeopardy of total collapse. So, what came out was this stream of conciousness that was a manic, masochistic seamless ball of hilarity. Seriously, you could take that on the road to every comedy club in the country. The internal schizophrenic battle between doing what you had to do (wine show) and what you really wanted to do (Jets rant) was laugh out loud funny.

QOTD: Stupidity resulting from the fact that a person is just too damn lazy to be knowledgable.

Cheer up Gary – roughly half the teams in the NFL suffered a loss recently. Seek higher perspective.

The t-shirt has drawn me out! I shamefully admit to lurking for a long time now (well over a year).

Long ago, I had wine a few times and it always tasted like a glass full of bitter to me. So I avoided wine for years. Then last year, while visiting a friend in Portugal, he popped a bottle while preparing dinner and poured me some. I was blown away! Here was something that had an incredible mix of flavors, a smooth, almost buttery quality, and none of the bitterness I remembered (stupidly, I didn’t bring any home with me). Since then I’ve really been trying to expand my knowledge of wine but I admit it can be … difficult at times (for me, at least). Whenever I walk into a store, I see racks and racks of bottles and lose all sense of where to start. WLTV has been an amazing resource for helping me dip my toe in the pool, so to speak, and huge thanks to Gary and everyone else who makes it possible!
