  • I can feel for you, Gary. The Raiders didn’t fair very well yesterday either.

QOTD: The “new” B.C. Vancouvers hockey sweaters (jerseys to y’all). So now we have 2 B.C. professional teams, the Lions and the Vancouvers. How lame…

Gee G,, sorry for the Jets loss. Great idea doing a value wine week.
What makes me sick is disloyalty and betrayal.
Cheers and happy birthday to your dad…

I love that you love your family so much. As much as you might accomplish in your professional life you cannot count yourself a success unless you have a full family life. You’re a good son, how many young men can boast that? Happiest of birthdays to your darling Dad.

    Hey Gary!

You’ve lured a lurker out of the shadows (well, predominantly a lurker – been watching since episode one but only left a comment a couple of times). Great t-shirt!

I feel your pain. I’m in St. Louis and we seem to be stuck in neutral for the last several years. Star running back fumbles on consecutive series after fumbling twice all of last year. Now our all-pro left tackle is out for the season after just one game. Defense can’t stop the run. Not looking good.

You picked a great time for free shipping – I’m likely changing jobs with a pay increase so my wife is letting me buy wine again (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). You mentioned Amarone but you pretty much panned the ones you tasted the last time. Any suggested Amorone for the free shipping?

QOTD: When someone uses up something at work and leaves it for the next person to order so when you really need it there isn’t any.

Hey man, great episode today, even if the wines were below expectation. QOTD: What makes me sick? Religion (and incidentally, I’m a former pastor/priest & missionary myself.)

Sorry about the Pats game, but it’s time to look ahead to this weekend: CAW! CAW! CAW! (oops, maybe I’d better get my order in quick……)

A space mountain reference, that was cool. I watched the Jets game, and the Pennington injury. I don’t know what the commentators were thinking when they made their comment about the fans. Ridiculous.

QOTD: When the Giants beat the Dodgers, which happened WAY TOO OFTEN this weekend. And generally when Barry Bonds does anything productive in a baseball uniform. That makes me pretty sick too.

Nice idea about not scoring wines under 15 bucks. I like it a lot, save the scores for the high priced ones. Looks like you got lucky in the Dad dept.
What makes me sick? People that don’t appreciate people like your Dad, hard working Americans trying to build a better life for their family and community. Give him a big Birthday greeting from us Niner fans out here in California.

QOTD: What makes me sick? I run a bar in a college town. What makes me sick is when Texas A&M plays against Fresno State and it goes into triple overtime due to TAMU’s terrible 2nd half and due to ridiculous calls made my the refs, which in turn hurts my business because the later the game goes, the more exhausted the students are and the less business I have.

    Great show by the way!!!

    –Rani

  • You need to do something about the bird squeeks in the background.

Like the theme this week. Not too disappointed about the boys getting pasted by the Pats. Pennington looked good; let’s see if he can still play! Jones will get better with time in the offense. Losing Kendall hurts (ask Chad).

Your QOTD gives me a segue into something that’s starting to bug me. Sniffy-sniff. It’s got to go. I love the show & love that you talk about wine in ‘people terms,’ but for someone who (like me) puts soooo much emphasis on the magic of the Nose of a wine, hearing it come out as ‘sniffy-sniff’ is killing me!! Please! Put ‘sniffy-sniff’ on the shelf!

    $13 is the new $10
    $700 is the $500
    orange was the new black
pretending to be dumb was the new pretending to be gay
i guess finding the great bargain deal is like finding the super burgundy. anyhow, 1 out of 4 is not bad at that price point. most low end price wines are one dimensional. that is OK for tuesday night. I guess the italians saved the day.

QOTD: eating charcute garni that is a few days old. cabbage and pork that is old is really rough.

  • Gary, great episode! Love that you are going with the value wines! Makes me happy.

QOTD: Well I have been finding that I am in my 17th year of school in my 21st year of life! It is gross how much school today’s youth have to take in order to get a starndard entry level job!

Good show, thanks for the honest opinions about the wines. Brave man, seeing you are in the business. How about a video blog on Texas wineries and their wines? Should be fun, given our serious German immigrant heritage.

  • Hey Gary, how many days in a row have you been wearing that shirt? Do you just change into it for the show? …Is this analogous to your refusal to shave during football season last year?

Last time you did an episode after a Jets loss (ep161), you mentioned that the fact that your high-hopes had been dashed might make you more likely to rate wines higher than you normally would. I’d have to agree. That Concannon Petite Sirah was good, but I don’t think it’s on par with most of your 90-pointers. But this time, you’re talking about disappointment pushing your ratings in the other direction. I guess this makes sense: mood is a major factor, but that doesn’t mean similar moods will always have the same effect (of course, in ep161, you were devastated; in this one, you weren’t really surprised, and seem to be more irritated w/ the announcer than upset about the loss). This thinking actually frees me up a bit. I’ve been trying to monitor the effects of mood on my perceptions and evaluations, and I’ve had similar results. Mood is a factor, but the specific nature of its influence is hard to pin down.

QOTD: What really chaps my hide, on this most wondrous day of “free shipping”, is the fact that some self-important bureocrat is preventing you from sending me wine that I bought months ago, despite the fact that they don’t seem to have a problem with any other online wine retailers.
