I had a big wine and cheese pairing party at my house, so I’ll give you the two NEW wines I tried there: Traminette by New York winery Goose Watch and a Leon Millot from a Vermont winery.

  • Hey Gary, great up beat show today…a lot of good vibes…QOTD: I was pouring Crane Lake at an event and it tasted, um well, like lake water…dare I say retention pond water. On an up note, however, right now I’m tasting the 2005 aloute chardonnay from Skylark wine company. yummers!

QOTD: Just had a Sonoma Valley Chardonnay tasting, so in there was Forest Glen, Gallo Family Reserve, Angeline, and BV (which was actually not from Sonoma). They were all either 2004 or 2005. The BV I found disppointing, but the other three were nice, with a very good Forest Glen.

Ok, Gary just jumped the ass kissing shark. He’s a big fan of the Ellen DeGeneres show? At what point does he put that show on in his office and watch as opposed to working and answering emails..

I am glad Gary didn’t like the Bogle Pinot Noir. I was never a big fan of it and I thought I was nuts because so many stores and people pushed it at me. It’s confirmed, I am not crazy!

QOD – Couple a inexpensive CA Chardonnays (Toasted Head and Twin Fins). Can you say OAK MONSTER?? Wow! At least the Toasted Head has good body and fruit underneath, though, that’s more than the Twin Fins can say.

Baked Potato in a Pinot Gris – curious….
Bogle Pinot Noir poor, nooooooooo! (I’ve heard so much good about it on the forum). Guess I’f better stick to the Cono Sur & Tyrrell’s ones for now.

QOTD – 1) Great Wall 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, China (don’t do it). 2)Gewurztraminer De Turckheim 2003 Cuvee Prestige, Alsace.

  • Brendan L (SmokeyUST)

    1. Bogle Old Vine California Zinfandel 2004
    2. Chateau La Sablonnerie Bordeaux 2000
    3. Ercavio Tempranillo Noble 2004
    4. Tinto Pagos de Penafiel Crianza 20001

Yea, the Bogle’s that I have had (except the old vine zin) are always a bit off from what I expect. I especially hate their Petite Sirah, wow, like drinking mud/tar wine.

My Question of the Day for Gary:
What kind of watches do you wear?

After 8 days of lurking – my first post! I love this video blog!

QOTD: is it last two WHITES or last two WINES? I’ll give you three, just in case.

2002 Francis Tannahill “Alder Ridge” Washington White (100% Roussanne in this vintage): tasty, nutty, supple roussanne. Still tastes young.

2004 Condado de Haza ribera del duero red: opened WAAAYYY to early – years too early. Oak monster.

2005 Spaetrot Klassik: blend of two rare Austrian white grapes, zierfandler and rotgipfler. Exotic, steely, slightly dirty-tasting white. Stone fruits and spice. My favorite of the three wines.

2004 Matthews Claret Columbia Valley, youg but very bordeux esque. Onced it opened up a bit the leather and tar components blended nicely with the elegant fruit.

2005 Agro de Bazan Granbazan Albarino Rias Baixas. One of the best albarino’s I have ever had, I have two cases of it.

  • Hey Gary,

Whats going on? I posted twice under this comment thread, and both posts were removed. I was trying not to be a Lurker, but I keep getting dumped. I have been downloading your show from iTunes, enjoying every show, and went to post my answer to the QOTD but nothing.

How can I go from being a lurker to being involved?

    thanks…..

  • Gary, congrats in advance on the Ellen appearance. Practice your dance moves now. I hear she likes to dance.

Don’t worry about swallowing your gu (even if it is a little weird). 🙂 My Mom told me it would sit in my stomach forever, but I read online that it’s not really true. http://www.snopes.com/oldwives/chewgum.asp

Last 2 wines I drank: 2007 Kim Crawford Sauv. Blanc, awesome as usual! And before that, a sip of truly crappy wine at a networking event in a hotel. Not even worth trying to remember the name of that turd juice.

Come on Gary. I understand the problems, but give me some scores. They’re fun! QOTD: Schifit Heritage Riesling 04′ and Montoya Napa Cab 05′(not great or even that good for the price point, but probably the only good Cab with the Napa designation under 20 I’ve ever had)

Too funny, husband and I happened to go out and buy the Bogle Pinot Noir Monday night and then there it was the next day on here! We loved it, bit drier than I normally go but we let it sit out for a few hours- made it much smoother and fuller, allowed some of the citrus flavor to come out instead of the smokiness i initially noted. Paired with some great gouda and it’s a party. Thanks Gary!

    Gary,

Second comment of the day. On a roll and a new record 😉

Hooray for the Ellen show! Gotta come up with something about wine and dancing….hummmmmm I know…a Vayniac wine dance. I can’t dance, so don’t know what it would look like, but I’m sure someone in the Vayniacnation could come up with one. :-))

QOTD: Darioush 2004 Napa Cab (A few more bones for everyday-50, but worth it…YUM) and Imagery 2003 Sonoma Cab Franc (based on your recent Cab Franc show)

Have a great trip to the Ellen show!
