QOTD: I haven’t necessarily tried them yet, but I went out and bought only wines that I had not tried before (or at least don’t realized that I’ve tried). I bought a Cabernet Franc, Garnacha, Petit Sirah, Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Vinho Verde, and Ironstone Vineyard’s “Symphony Obsession” that apparently is pretty well-liked. So I think I’m set for awhile, don’t you?

QOTD: I know this may sound a little hokeeee but a while back I was talking with a friend of mine who is really in to wine. He told me about this “goofy young guy on WLTV” that I needed to take a look at if I really wanted to learn more about wine. THAT is the one new thing this year (maybe in the last couple of years) that I tryed that has changed my life. Thanks for all that you do Gary……….

Big G, Great show. I’m looking forward to many new things. Change is good for all of us.

    GV,

I agree. I think ratings are a good guide, but contain two major flaws:

    1. They contain personal-preference bias. (Some like caramel and motor oil, others don’t… I do)
    2. Only describes the wine at one point in time (Saying that the Jets/Baltimore game is a good game at half-time)

    Just my thoughts…

QOTD: Marrow from Osso Bucco rocks

QOTD: This is odd, but fresh apricots and fresh plums. They were too “Squishy” as a kid. Now, thanks to my wife, I love them!!

Order 393401 – every item ordered was NEW and most GV endorsed. We love to try new wines. Big Brunello tasting with Guido Orzalesi from Altesino on Monday night. Sponsored by the competition (although they don’t come close to WL). Thanks for the free shipping, that rocked.

QOTD – Recently tried Aglianico for the first time, loved it!

I don’t really listen to ratings, which is why I’ve really liked this week’s shows – I love that Gary has been saying whether it’s a good wine for the price! I’m poor and can’t afford expensive wine, but I can’t not drink it, so my eternal quest is to find wine I like in my price range… I have my OWN rating scale and I keep my own notes on every wine I try. THOSE are the ONLY ratings i really listen to.

QOTD: non-wine fave new try: whitewater rafting… was a little scared at first hitting some huge rapids on the snake river in CO, but i fell in LOVE with it after the first try! I can’t wait to go again!
wine fave new try: rkatsiteli wine – delicious!

QOTD: Tough question. I don’t think I’ve thought so long and/or hard about a QOTD ever. Now I’m stalling. I have it…having steaks rare. Very tasty. Has to be the right cut though. I used to be a medium-rare only kind of guy, but now I switch it up.

  • QOTD:Deep fried fish eyeballs. But if you’re looking for wine-related: Gruner Veltliner from Austria.

QOTD (cont’d): Oh, and the biggest of all – WINE!! I never liked wine in college.. had a few bad jug reds and thought it was gross… but then I decided that even if i didnt like it, I should learn how to appreciate and understand it (so i at least wouldnt look like a doof giving it as gifts or ordering in restaurants), so I decided to take a course through RIT – Wines of the World. After the first class I was hooked! I gave it an honest try, and now I’m a total Vayniac! (good question Gary)

Keep an open mind people, or you’re going to miss out on a LOT of wonderful things in life!

  • GrapeStuff

QOTD: The ’05 Wolftrap – NEVER would have tried it, but saw you recco. it on a show and happen to pass by it in a LWS and my girlfriend and I loved IT! In fact, just had a bottle of it last night. It has definitely motivated me to try more S.A. wines.
