WOOOOW WOOOOW, wish i could have been there to try that bad boy. by looking at it from my MAC, the robe is showing not a bit of age! do you pass that around the office, or put it your bag for friday night dinner?

QOTD: new things…. swiss wine. i am living in switzerland, and working my way to it. the french, italian, and spanish wines look so good on the shelf. i need to start getting some. it is bad cause i tell myself it is not as good as it’s neighbors. but i had a swiss pinot noir the other night and it was not half bad. it was not a burgundy, put it tasted like ripe pinot. i am learning the art of fondue eating. there are many nuances that are to be discovered.

i am not a big fan of football, but i hope the jets win for you sometime soon.

hint hint: swiss wine show soon. you did one, a ways back, with one wine? think of the cheese course.

Hey! You looked at my order? I tried to get something new, but you were SOLD OUT of it! The Fontodi Chianti was new (had to get this before you tasted it online and it sold out). The Charleston Maderia was new – I have never bought a bottle of Maderia to drink. Got one to cook with once.
All the other stuff are gift bottles – no tax, no shipping, why not load up on wines we’ve enjoyed to share with friends?
    I don’t take criticism well.
    Great show today.

    Whoo hoo Top 100!
I mean how cool is that – got nothing to say about the episode; just want to make sure I post within the top 100!. Smell that . . . That’s sarcasm.

I was hoping that the Bordeaux was going to be under $12 – but then, would you really want to drink a 20-year old Bordeaux that cost $8.99? Probably was kept on top of someone’s refrigerator.
Hope your Jets do well. We’ll all be taping the Jets game – well, at least we’ll be taping the defensive coordinators and only during the first quarter.

I’ve been really trying to go out of my way and try new things. The Terroir at Wine Library grape varieties articles are great reading and made me want to try some of those wines people never here of, I have a couple of those bottles on there way thanks to the free shipping.

QOTD: Riding BMX, a friend of mine got me into it; it’s fun to jump around on a bike and ride around

Neat lesson today. It’s sort of an old one, but with a different twist:
A – Don’t pay too close attention to other people’s ratings (when it comes to drinkability)
B – Big brother (Gary) is watching 😮

QOTD: Favorite new thing has got to be these cool dim-sum type dumpling things I tried at a Chinese restuarant on the way home last weekend. My friends took me to this Chinese place I’d never been to before and I tried a dish I had never had. It was great! I did try somethings that weren’t so good, but I came out ahead! I was thinking of cherring for the Patriots this year (something new for me) but I’m NOT going to do that after all!

Great show today. Always love the old wines. QOTD: When I was 10 my dad made me a “sailor sandwich”, penut butter, mayonaise and lettuce. I still eat it today.

QOTD: Running. Three months ago I would say that, even though I worked out regularly, I couldn’t stand running. I gave it a few tries, and now I like it to the point that I’m running in the Des Moines (half) Marathon next month.

How about a shout out for all of us who HAVE tried new wines. I ordered some Proseco after the show the other day. Never had that!
QOTD: Arneis baby. That stuff is absolutely FABULOUS! Probably my favorite white wine, especially for the summer.

QOTD: two surprises, one recent(as in the past 2 months) and one from last year. The more recent one was seeing an 01 Pont De Guestres for $20. I figured, hey, 01 was a pretty solid year for Bordeaux and the wines are a good amount more affordable due to 00 being so big, so why not give this a go, well, I was extremely pleasantly surprised at it. No, this wasn’t neccessarily some big 90+ pt stunner, but, it just left a really nice smile on my face and was just fun to try out a chateau from the pomerol that I had never heard of.

The other surpise was last year, and is one of my favorite surprises. I was just randomly trying oregon pinots and saw an 03 Le Cadeau. Well, I figured, hey, why not give this a flyer even though 03 was a pretty hot vintage for oregon. Well, not only was I surprised at how great it was, I was throughly shocked, so much so that after drinking it I went out and bought a case the next day. I still think back to my first tasting of it and how special it was. It really was an epiphany. Here was this pinot that to me was exactly what Pinot was about, finesse, silk, elegence and wasn’t some of the fruit bombs that you get from california. When you add in the price for it, it was a complete winner. I haven’t had that many burgundies because of how expensive they were, and in a way I’m still searching for an oregon pinot that does to me what the first Le Cadeau did for me. maybe it’ll be a never ending search, but at least I’ll always remember that first time having it

But, Gary, I DID try new stuff in my order. I swear!!!

QOTD: Today I sampled about 6 white burgundies, 3 red burgundies, and one Chateau Neuf du Pape that started out totally smelling like bandaids, tape, and poopy barnyard. Then after those scents cleared, a hardcore bolt of red Twizzlers came through. The lady next to me looked at me like I was nuts, but I stuck to my guns. And tonight, I’m trying something new with dinner–the Alberto Furque 2005 Tempranillo from Argentina.

qotd … virginia cab, naked mountain’s raptor red; recently had it served up and, inspite of my bad attitude, I found it a very solid wine for under $20

  • QOTD: In the world of wine, my most recent “new” favorite is the Font du Vent Cotes du Rhone Villages Notre Passion 2003. I found a good deal on this stuff, and decided to jump, despite the fact that I’d never tried it. I’m glad I did. It’s full of the sour cherry and kalamata olive flavors I like best.

  • Whoa! It looks like you changed the way responses are displayed. I like it!

Regarding my SASHA order, I must say that it was a MIXTURE of old and new things. In fact, I believe that it was mostly new. And how could I pass up that Chinon? I’m astounded that it’s still in stock. I don’t have access to Chinon of ANY kind in NE Nevada.
