QOTD – What do I think of the show? I love the fact that, after a long, exhausting day at work, I can tune in, see a whole show in 3:39 without missing a thing!
Welcome home and have a great 27-10 (sob!) weekend, Gar’!

  • QOTD: The show is the greatest thing on the internet! I mean you make me changing my wine view, forced me to buy and try a Arnies, Scheurebe, Zweigelt and so on. I drink champagne out of the big ass glass blabla… Thanks for that Gary! You are the best!

    GV,
I’m a big fan of the show, the forum ( hilarious and pretty sharp people in there) and you! Not only do I truely enjoy your evolution, if you will, from the calmer, more reserved to the wild wine guy celeb type, but I really appreciate how you’ve brought people from around the country and world together through this medium.
    Thank you!

    and oh yeah…Giants 17 Jets 10.

QOTD: I’ve expressed it before and I’ll mention it again: this show has fed my passion to learn as much about wine as possible, to experience as many types of wines from as many places as possible, to find value within a business that is so subjective and where quality is so detached (in many cases) from quality, and to do so with an open mind (and palate) without the pretentious attitude that has been spoiling the wine world for so long. Thank you for helping me stay inspired the wine world, for giving me something to look forward to watching each night after a long shift of serving snooty customers fine wine and food all night, and for helping create this community and an opportunity for me to actually get my hands into making a wine that I’ve bought! Can’t wait to get up to Crushpad next week! Thanks again, Gary, and, to answer the question, the show is…well, okay (HAHA!).

Thanks for the reflections man. It’s good to know you’ve still got a passion for doing this gig. I think it makes the show what it is and sets it apart from anything else out there. You’re not getting paid to do this thing, you WANT to do it and I personally really appreciate the hard work. I’ve learned SOOOOO much over the past year and a half or so I’ve been watching. You’re totally right about the forum thing too. I should have joined much sooner however since I’ve been in there trolling I’ve learned a bunch from all those guys, AND girls 🙂

Gary – I love the show and in just a few months I have gained so much more knowledge than from the subscription to Wine Spectator I got about a year ago. Every time I watch your show I have the urgent need to go out to the store and pick something new out. I wish you guys could ship to GA.

Short story – I am in a Total Wines in GA, and I am checking out the Rhone section, trying to find a Cote Rotie (due to your episode) and an employee there comes by and starts talking to me, asking me if I need help, then when I ask if they have any Cote Rotie wines, he says, yes, and they are a great 100% Syrah wine. And I say, “contraire mon frere”, the Cote Rotie can include up to 20% Viognier. He found the Guigal Cote Rotie, read the label they had on the shelf, and proceeded to give me some major props.

Anyways, I get excited about wine now, my girlfriend makes the “handgun to the head motion” as I blab about wine and your show, but whatever.

    Thanks

  • Thank you for bringing us all together like this, I definitely wasn’t expecting it.

QOTD: I really like that its completely available to anyone that wants it. If I am having a conversation with someone, I can send them to you to further develop my point. You have created this community of wine people that are more passionate, informed, and intelligent than the old-wine-world can handle. Congrats.

This show has made my new favorite hobby – trying new wines. I wouldn’t be that much into wine if it wasn’t for your show, Gary!

    Gary:
I’m a lurker no more! I travel a lot for work and tend to listen to a week’s worth at once on my ipod (they need to be videocasts, though!) But today I had to come to the site and tell you thanks and please keep it up. You make sitting in airports enjoyable.

In response to the question, “What do you think about this show?.” I enjoy it very much. But, I think too much time is spent on wines that are fairly expensive. I’d like to see more concentration on wines in the $8 – $15 range that can be enjoyed on a more frequent and casual basis. Its more difficult to find good juice at that price point. So, who’s making everyday, perhaps more mass produced, wines that aren’t crap? Which ones are the best of that category? Not all of us want to routinely spend $24 to $60 bucks on a bottle (twice to three times that at the restaurant). Also, based on the 3-4 hours of decanting you recently recommended, its seems almost crazy to blow big bucks at a restaurant when you’re generally tasting it right out of the bottle. And, it seems that your should be doing most, if not all, of your tastings after the wines have been decanted. Why don’t you do that??

QOTD: What to do I think about the show? I don’t know. I was to busy coveting the cases of Le Pin and whatknot in the wineroom. I have this recurring wet dream of being accidentally locked in the Wine Library for a night. You would find one drunk cast away in the morning.
