Good to know that you’re a cheap date! Unless, of course, you’re eating $20/lb cheese with those cheap wines 🙂

    QOTD:
2006 Alexander Valley Vineyard ‘New Gewurtz’
2004 or 2005 Greg Norman Limestone Coast Shiraz
2003 Chasse Spleen, Moulis (morons at Bevmo had it marked down from $29.99 to $12.99 on the discontinued table….yeehaw!)

  • Hey Gary,

It was great to meet you on Tuesday at the tasting. Now I know why you spit when you taste wine. If you don’t you’d have a nasty headache the next day with the amount of wine you taste each day. I have to tell you I woke up with a pretty rough headache today after the tasting. Though we had a great wine.

QOTD: I don’t have a favorites wine list but i’ll share with you a discovery from the tasting yesterday. Urbans Riesling 2006 (http://winelibrary.com/reviewwine.asp?item=34069) was a great wine at a FANTASTIC price. You talk about smelling wines. This one brings the THUNDER. Its not something you can drink all day long but it is truly enjoyable.

    Cheers,
    – Rick

Got into a long discussion about this with my husband (BlankJeff), so I thought I’d add his favorites.

white: 2001 Helfrich Gewarztraminer Steinklotz Alsace Grand Cru (like fresh apple juice, with some notes of grass)
red: 2003 Stina’s Cellars Cabernet Franc (for price point and non-put-downable drinking, from a little-known Washington winemaker)
desert: 2000 Royal Tokaji Wine Co. Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos

QOTD: Three wines of late that I have really enjoyed are

    1) Marziano Abonna 2000 Barbaresco
    2) Edmunds’ St. John 2004 Rocks and Gravel. Possibly the best/most interesting wine for $15 that I have had in a long time.
    3) I am planning to open a Torres 1989 Gran Coronas Mas La Plana on my upcoming birthday. I have had this wine before, within the last year, and have 5 bottles of it left and I am completely into it. There’s nothing really special about 1989 for me, these bottles were just an opportunity I came across and couldn’t resist.

just bought a case of the sweet Graves…..heck, i’m gonna whisk some in with my eggs and make some killer french toast!!!! could be awesome!!!!!

QOTD: Current faves are Burgans Albarino, Robert Mondavi Napa Cab, and Franciscan Magnificat. Haven’t drunk enough of them to be swift enough to pick vintages.

Mr. GreenHead is a Panther now, huh? That guy can really hold a clipboard, you know. At least the cats didn’t go looking for Chris Weinke to come back, which I thought they might do. You could then have heard the sound of one franchise’s fan base imploding. Kinda like the Jets right now. Ooh, that was mean wasn’t it? See, I’m not really that nice after all…

    QotD –

Driving today on 78 West I could not help but see the billboard of your ginormous face. Congrats, I love it, however after a mere tenth of a mile what’s up with Gary stealing your name. Anyway keep up the great work and it is great to see you hyped up again.
QOTD – these are my wife’s favorite although I know you hate the buttery oak monster
Far Niente Chardonay, Lewis Chardonay, and Beringer Howell Mountain Merlot
Please, she is breaking the bank, some cheaper alternatives. Have your wine consultants contact me.

Those three sound delicious, I may have to include one or all in the surprise I’m planning for my two lucky friends.

QOTD: My three favorites are all made by friends locally. They probably wouldn’t be “high-point” wines but they’re my favorites because they’re made with love for the rest of us. If you’re interested I could try and convince one to slap a label on one of the bottles…
