QOTD: Yes, I had one in Italy and another from Cal.

Great ep GV – I have wanted to start trying Barolo and this was a great intro to the wines. I have seen the Giacomo wine you tasted in a few shops and hearing your flavor descriptors for me tells me I would probably not like it – thank you for saving me $60. The first wine, however, seems like its a little more in my budget and more my style.

    QOTD: Haven’t had a Barolo.

  • Good to see you back in the groove, GV!

glad to see you coming up with some _good_ wines GV. Seems you were on a dry spell for a while in finding some exceptional wines. Its fun to see a GV with a smile on his face 😉 Next time try to find some cheaper ones, tho 140 is wayy out of my range, LOL

Great show lots of heavy hitters today all 90’s not bad for a tuesday. Laughed a little when I saw Clemens was named starter, knew you’d hook em up on the show.
QOTD Sadly haven’t tried the sweet nector of the rolo maybe this weekend we’ll see.

  • HEY Gary
love the Barolo – probably the favorite is the Rivetto “Leon” Barolo. Most likely because I visited the winery while I was in Piemonte this summer so they have a special place in my heart. The “Leon” Vineyard is their top dog but their other Barolo “Guilin” is real good too and not as expensive. I have had the Oberto, but not the 2000, I think it was the 2003, as I can remember really good. Also the Oberto Dolcetto d’ Alba is steal.

    See ya

I must have, at some point, had a Barolo in Italy last year. Sorry I just don’t recall. But I do now remember that it is made with the nebiolo grape (spelling?)and that it has a brownish hue. Thanks for another informative show.

QOTD — I confess, I have not had a barolo. The only Nebbiolo-based wines I’ve had were from the more northerly Gattinara area, and I didn’t like either.

Favorite recent Barolo is also a 2000. Guido Porro. Kermit Lynch out here in Berkeley is the importer. Under $40 too, which is nice.

  • Orion Slayer

I did not see the origianl episode, so thanks for redoing this. Ever since reading about Barolos in “The Wine Bible” I’ve been interested in them!

QOTD: The only Barolo I’ve had was a 2002 Damilano. The bottle was on the discount shelf ($16.99, normally $30) so I tried it. I was surprised that the wine wasn’t more tannic. The flavor was good but I’d like to try that $100 Barolo you had on the show today!

Gret episode…this is becoming one of my favorite regions….so damn good!
QOTD – Shit yeah….I am a Barolo lover [Thanks Joe G for the gentle nudge ;)] Favorite Barolo has to be Liciano Sandrone Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2001. I had this at the epic Buffalo WLTV offline!

  • I’ve never had a Barolo…can’t even afford the stuff. I will just live vicariously through you.

  • I had a Barolo in a wine tasting class I took in January, so it has been quite a while and the amount that I had was just a smidgen. Since then, I started a wine tasting group and were are working our way through France and will soon be going to Italy and Spain. So I will be adding it to the itinerary. For anyone who wants to learn more about wine, start a wine tasting group. I have been hosting it for only six weeks and I am amazed at how much I have learned so far! Plus you meet new people who like wine!

    QOTD: Negative ghostrider.

i thought you said no more barolo episodes. but why not, they are beautiful.

QOTD: of course. i have a few in my cellar and i have my eye on a few more for later drinking. the problem is that most that are begin consumed now are are just way too young. it is really hard too to decant a wine for 5 hours at the resto. on that note, they surely have the possibility to be monolithic in their youth which leave people with the feeling of ” don’t get it ” feeling.

QOTD: I got a few bottles of the 03 Ghisolfi Barolo for an Italian dinner last week. Rated 92 by WS. It was overall good but the mid-palatte to the finish a bit too earthy. I am putting the extra bottles away for a few more years (recommended after 2010) before I open the next one.
