QOTD: I’ve never had a Barolo. I would love to try one, but I’m a little scared… I’m afraid I may like them too much! And at that price point…

Nice show. Always good to see old world juice (even when they’re from new-world-type vintages).

QOTD: Have had a few (not too many). Most memorable was the 1996 Francesco Rinaldi Le Brunate which I loved.

QOTD: I have a couple of Barolos in my cellar that are a couple of years from hitting their stride, so I’m still a Barolo virgin. Today’s episode makes me even more anxious to drink one, though.

I had a 1964 Giuseppi Mascarolo Barolo in 1979 that made a huge impression on me.

QOTD: don’t think I’ve ever had a barolo. been focusing on barbera and dolcetto, but actually have a 2000 barolo in my cellar and I have no idea where it came from. will drink soon for sure.

    QOTD:

Yes, but only two Barolos thus far:

    1) 2000 Massolino Barolo Margheria (from WL) – this was fantastic w/ a huge porterhouse!
    2) 1993 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito – drank this a few months ago at a BYO called “Nook” in Hells Kitchen w/ lamb chops…was still goin pretty strong but was more elegant than the Massolino.

It’s not my favorite wine, but it’s hard to deny its quality.

BTW, any of you who live in NYC have to try Nook. No corking fee, very reasonably priced and very good food!

    Great episode, thx!

  • Will “Ha Ha” Shatter

Actually opened a ’98 Gaja Sori Tildin several months ago over an amazing dinner, not a barolo but mix of nebbiolo and barbera, bought from friend at a drastically reduced price, a steal at the $120 it cost me, the wine was in a major dumb phase and was not impressed with it, especially for the price, even at what I paid. Give me a Brunello di Montalcino anytime….brother, pair with boar, venison or osso buco, absolute nirvana, and buy two for the price of a nebbiolo equivilent!!!

The last Barolo I had was the 03 Vietti. It was really very tasty, and at $40 seemed like a steal, though it was still too young. In another couple of years I think it’ll be fantastic.

Nice move with the 2006 jersey, GV.

QOTD: Barolo’s are some of my favorite wines. I have not had tons of them, due to the prices, but I have had a couple dozen or so. Favorite was a ’95 I had a couple of years ago at a Battali place in NYC. Don’t remember the details, but it was outstanding.

Have never had a Barolo before. On your recommendation I ordered 3 bottles of the 2000 Oberto Barolo Vigneto Alberella so that I can answer the question of whether I’ve had a Barolo. You’re a very good salesman, and I appreciate that having been one myself 🙂

    Thanks for the continuing education.

ORE GONE Cowboy??? It’s sad that Kellen should end up with a losing team with loser fans — particularly those who can’t pronounce Oregon. Or know he’s no cowboy, buster.
