My favorite Italian wines are amarone’s and Barolo’s. My most recent favorite was the 2000 Damilano Barolo which I snagged a case for about $30 a bottle!

QOTD: No, never had one. Hopefully I can find a “reasonably priced” one to try.

Great episode, GV! I saw a nebbiolo rose at the store today. Didn’t buy it. Wonder if it could possibly be any good?

QOTD: One of the very first “fine” wines I ever had (about 20 years ago) was a Ceretto barolo and I loved it. I haven’t had all that much barolo in the intervening years but I like it lot when I do get a chance to drink it.

QOTD: O-for-Barolo GV. Never tried one. Will be picking three up later this week to give them a whirl, however.

Never had a barolo. I have 2 in my cellar, a Massolino 2000 (GV rated!) and a Silvio Grasso 1999. One day I’ll get super curious and pop them.

Never had a Barolo, so I do not have a favorite.

Why is it no one ever smells or tastes grapes in a wine????? Kind of makes you wonder about the raspberries, cherries, etc.

I don’t think I’ve had any Barolo. I have had Nebbiolo, by itself without much time for it to breathe, that was a bad idea. I definitely relate to the idea of not wanting to gamble on a pricey varietal. It’s a catch-22 too because if I do see a cheap one it makes me wary of whether or not it’s any good or a good example of the varietal. I’ll eventually bite the bullet but I still feel like there’s a lot of less expensive wine for me to explore.
