I've been rooting through the old episodes recently, and I'm glad I found this – now I can run to Costco and pick up some of the Kirkland label. It'll make a change to actually get the wines you taste here in Korea.

QOTD – lots of stuff on gender for a research paper and Logicomix for fun. It's a graphic novel about Bertrand Russell.

  • QOTD: “Divagations” by Mallarmé and “Wonder Tales” by Lord Dunsany.

Great episode! I may grab the cab next time I’m in the store.

QOTD: The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead by Max Brooks. It’s a hilarious, deadpan strategy guide for what to do in case of a zombie outbreak. Oh, and also textbooks. For my thesis.

I call for a boxed wine episode, GV! My parents are all about that crap, I’ve never been a fan.

Is there any way that the price and/or score that Gary quotes could be included on the tag for each wine in the videos?

    Just a suggestion.

    Hi, everybody, btw.

QOTD: I think this is my first QOTD….. I am currently reading RObin Hobb’s Assassin’s Apprentice, book 1 of three (as far as I know) in The Farseer Trilogy.

There aren’t too many Costco’s where I’m from – don’t you have to have a membership to go in, like Sam’s? If not, hell I’ll try that cab. Question for you: what do you do with the leftover bottles after you do your tasting? Do you pitch bottles you don’t like, or do you save them for another use? And as for the QOTD: I’m reading a few things. “Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?” by B.D. Tatum; “Life of the Beloved” by H.J.M. Nouwen; and “Feminism is for Everybody” by bell hooks. If you have never dabbled into bell hooks, you really should give her a try. She is a prolific writer in feminist studies, and she just freakin rules. But if that’s not your style, please tell me that you’ve read some Kerouac – make this known to the entire Vayniac nation: everyone should read Kerouac. Whether it’s Dharma Bums or On the Road, or Mexico City Blues, tell the nation GV – Kerouac needs to be read. I just ranted, and I’m sorry. Books are my thing. Nice show today, looking forward to the Michigan episode cuz that is my homeland. Keep it real.

Thanks for the reviews on Costco wine 🙂
QOTD: A Thousand Splendid Suns. Definitely worth checking out; probably the best book I’ve read but we’ll see if it continues to hold strong.

  • QOTD: As usual, I’m reading 4 books simultaneously: 1.)I’m halfway through Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said (Phillip K. Dick–VERY GOOD!), 2.)Two chapters into The Barbed Wire College: Reeducating German POWs in the U.S. During WWII (Ron Robin), 3.)Halfway through The Art of Advice: How to Give It and How to Take It (Jeswald Salacuse), and 4.)Just started my new “car” book (I always leave one book in the car), The Gods Themselves (Isaac Asimov). I always tell myself that I need to start reading in a more linear fashion, and finish 1 book before starting another–but I keep falling into the same bad pattern!! Crazy ol’ me…

Gary, great show! I’ve seen the wines a number of times and alway laugh with my wife. The next time I’m in Costco I might just have to try one.

  • Hey GV ~ Interesting tasting today, not sure I’d make Costco my wine buying location, but sounds like good price to quality ratio.
QOTD: I’m reading Cesar’s Way by Cesar Milan. I’ve gotta get my 4 pups under control. I have 2 pugs, a chihuahua and a Shi Tzu. They all get along great, but talk about a bunch of different temperments that don’t behave very well on our daily walks. Time for me to be the pack leader !!

Interesting wines from Costco. Sam’s doesn’t carry their own wine label. Noticed on the Costco web site that the GSM and Chateauneuf are both $19.99. Can’t find the Cab. At these prices, not sure they are a bargain.

  • This was an interesting show, and it definitely confirmed by Mom’s habits of buying wine from costco. Since I was sixteen my Mom has bought wine from costco, and has found some major steals. As for reading, I am currently reading Henry Roth’s American Pastoral, a novel that goes down with the American greats, and Nietzsche’s In the Twilight of Good and Evil.

My Wine Library shipment showed up on Monday – opened the Passagno Pinot with some friends that night. Really nice sour cherries and vanilla. Nothing complicated, but it was delicious for twenty bucks. Good show today, Gary. I might check out those Kirkland wines, just for kicks

QOTD: The latest issue of the New Yorker (I subscribe). There is a great article about a guy who sabotages whaling ships by ramming them and shooting tear gas onto their decks.

Kirkland? Good wines? Impressive. Their 2% milk still sucks though. A little wet cardboard on the nose and mid-palate.

QOTD: Going through aviation law books for class.
