  • QOTD: I’m yet to try a barbera. It is on my shortlist now for sure.

3 Jets Super Bowls? You never did say when this was going to happen, so I’ll go along with it.

    Hey GV!

QOTD: You are DAMN right! Barbera rocks and deserves to be better known… We all know Barbera d’Alba and Barbera d’Asti, but I recently tried a Barbera del Monferrato that rocked VERY hard… It was from Azienda Agricola ACCORNERO… Try thier Bricco Batista 2004 : pure blue and black fruit, yet so lively and balanced… A real bomb!!

Best regards to all the Vayniacs!

  • I Love Barbera, almost done with a case of ’04 Stevenot, which I am sad to see go. Used it as my house red. Can’t go wrong.

  • Really? A cat after working in the mine? Not a cow, or a hog, but a cat?

How come you keep looking at your watch? Got a plane to catch?

Where’s the love for the Butter Bandit?

QOTD: Yep, I’ve had a Barbera from my home province of British Columbia, Canada. My first reaction was, “well, this is an odd taste.” Then it dawned on me that it was just plain wrong. Suspicions aroused, I did a little looking into the characteristics of corked wine, and they certainly matched what I was tasting. First time I had one of those. I tried the wine again (new bottle, of course) and very much enjoyed it. After Gary’s enthusiastic response I figure I need to try some of the old world versions. Quite the run of speech on the middle wine. Great show!

Why yes I have tried Barbera d’Alba! I love Piedmontese wines. I am lucky enough to have started working recently at a Piedmont-style restaurant. Any Portland Oregon people reading this, hit up Alba Osteria and Enoteca. Outstanding Food, and a great wine selection.

  • You have to come to Alba and drink it here… together with the local cuisine that complements each other so well…
It is a real pleasure to sit in the vineyards that the grapes were harvested from and drink the wine with the man or family that produced it. You can not say the same for many producers in the world. Here it is mostly family run, small productions. The produdtion is less science and more an art. These days with large producers there is more science in producing a good wine… and less of the art. The good thing about the wines here, is that it is still old school.
There are loads of great wines that just don’t make it to your table in the US…the production is too small…. but it sure does get consumed localy.
Great Episode and I agree with you about those wines.. and they really great value for money.. and that is just one of the good wines to come out of Alba… Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, Barolo made from the Nebbiolo grape is….well will just have to let you decide that on your own.

Great episode Not nearly enough Barbera around. Superb RANT on the Massolino as well.
QOTD: Yes, I’ve had Barberas, but never one that not my socks off. I’ve always thought of them as really good “pizza wines”. I clearly need to try a couple of these. I AM PUMPED!

  • Nothing says Southern Italian cuisine like Barbera. These are not sipping wines though as the tannins and alcohol will kill you tasting them alone but with a meal bellisimo.
