    GV,
QOD: Greco Di Tufo and other Italian whites with pizza. Never would have picked a white for pizza. Changing the world!!!-:)

  • Thanks Gary for another solid show. Nice comment-amount yesterday 😉
I really don’t understand why Beaujolais Nouveau is still requested?
Everybody knows it’s a very very simple red, and for that effort quit expensive.
How can this still work? The only reason coming to mind is, the marketing,
the bottles look nice, and lots of customers (without noses and palates?)
who just drink the wine without giving further attention.

Hey Gary, way to be a buzzkill. Youâ??re always going on about how wine ought to be fun and enjoyable and how we ought to forget all the snobbery surrounding it. Well, whatâ??s less pretentious than Beaujolais Nouveau? Marketing gimmick? Absolutely. Tastes like grape juice? At best. But are people having parties every year to celebrate the release of Opus One? No one I know is. People celebrate the B-N release not because it’s good wine but because it’s a fun idea to ring in the new “wine” from the new harvest. Because, after all, the harvest — the farming — is what wine is all about. So, hand it to Georges Duboeuf and the rest of the French B-N makers: They’ve accomplished just what you’ve been after. They’ve made wine fun — at least one day per year. So check yourself, Sir Gary. You sounded an awful lot like a wine snob today.

I actually saw a guy at my local Holiday Market buying 2 bottles of the 2007 Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau. For some strange reason I felt compelled to say “you know, Gary Vaynerchuk said that wine is really terrible.” But I could just see him saying “what the hell is a vaynerchuk?!” so I politely said nothing.

The Four Vines Naked Chardonnay and the Boudreaux Cabernet. Naked Chardonnay would have eluded me but its the answer to my complaint about oaked chards from CA AND without WLTV I never, never would have even considered Washington Cabernet, no way no how!

The 2003 Bovard Epesse Terre A Boire. I know very little about Swiss wine so having a recommendation encouraged me to try new things.

Hey, Already got the Frank Family! You can’t go changing it up on me 🙂

QOTD: Someone already mentioned it but, the Cambiata Tannat. It was a case of being at my local wine shop and seeing it on the shelf and having the vague notion it was the same one you had raved on. It was so yummy, I bought a couple more bottles to share. Thanks!

  • Answer to the question of the day:

In one of the last episodes you talked about sincerre, and for once I knew what to choose on the wine list in the restaurant, that’s a big change for me!
I choose the sincerre knowing you recommended it, I was with my parents and they loved it! I loved it too BTW.
So thank for this little piece of you!

So have a great wine day!

    Cheers!

  • Loving the episodes!

Wine I loved probably would not have tried pre WLTV – Tenuda del Barco – Palmento 2004 (Primativo from Italy) – delicious!

Love the sound of the Pax (well the Barossa is local to me, so new-world stuff has appeal)

    Hi Gary:

I don’t think there’s a particular wine I’ve sought out since watching WLTV, but the early episode on why you should decant your wine (using Amon Ra shiraz) really made a big difference in how I was able to better appreciate wine.

  • Your friend down under

Regardless of how beajolais tastes there is still a mystique about it. There is something appealing about a wine that get sent all over the world at midnight as fast as is possible to be consumed very quickly in Europe, China, Australia, America etc.

Question of the day…. We had never tried a Barbera unitil watching the “Thunder Show”, this evening we opened a Barbera D’Allba, 05 and it was spectacular. Thanks for helping to enrich our wine enjoyment Gary, we love watching your podcast.
