Good show.

QOTD: I’ve had the 2005 Château de Pibarnon Bandol. It’s now one of my favorite wines of all time. I need to find some more wines from Bandol.

  • Never had Bandol, but I’ll have to seek it out next time I go looking for wine. I like radool though, I’m going to have to start using that myself.

    Good episode, Gary.
It honestly sounded like you said:
“We’re going to talk about Bob Dole.”
    I was a little confused.
BANDOL! I’ll have to try one.

QOTD: It’s possible (probable?) I’ve had a Bandol or two at a big cocktail-style festival tasting
over the years, but since I have never sat down with a bottle of it and paid attention, I will say “no”.

QODD: Yes, tasted once or twice a long time ago and liked it (can’t remeber the producer, but it was a distinctively shaped bottle – looked a little like the coca cola glass bottles they used to make years ago. Do you know which Bandol I am refering to? – I think it’s a pretty well known brand… I’d love to try it gain. Will definitely look it up after this show (if I can ever remmeber the name)

Never had one. My wine experience has been several Merlots, several cheap champagnes (or sparkling wines) and some Pinot from a box. I’m trying to get more into wine, but I already have too many other expensive hobbies.

  • I’m more of a lurker, but I just finished watching the three videos, you with Conan, you on Nightline, and you with Ellen DeGenres. I think I hurt myself trying to stifle my laughter so as not to disturb my coworkers.

So everyone out there be warned, don’t be sipping wine while watching those shows unless you enjoy wine shooting out your nose.

Gary – 1st response from this Lurker from Washington State! Really disappointed that Wine Library cannot ship here! I guess I will have to spend this Friday, Saturday and Sunday barrel tasting in Walla Walla to get over my disappointment. By the way my seven year old son David does a decent impression of you. We often watch your show, together. I often wonder what his teacher thinks when he brings up wine drinking Vaniacs in his second grade classroom. thanks for the education! Eric

QOTD : WOW! I just bought my first bottle of Bandol. Tempier 2002 – it was 40 bones out here. I am hoping it is good. Never had any before but I watched the Russell Crowe movie “A Good Year” which was about Bandol and so got some for the next time I watch it. Fun movie as long as you don’t mind bad editing and a director who sent it down a bunch of rabbit trails that never came out anywhere. Beautiful cinematography work however and good dialog and acting for the most part. And if you love wine there you go.

Great show, I really like the retasting idea. Especially when you are not blind tasting.

    BANDOL!!
QOTD: Unfortunately I’ve only had one Bandol, and it was Domaine Tempier’s Rose. Nice dry, well structured wine with Mourvedre, Carignan,

Bandols are awesome. First had one in London in 1988 at the old Le Tante Claire– when it was a tiny place in Chelsea and before it got full of itself– I think it cost about $25 dollars then, and I can’t tell you who made it. It was recommended by the waiter as a bargain, and it was delicious. I had my last Bandol last night at a restaurant in Chicago, and ironically enough it was the very Tempier that you tasted– and excellent.

Haha, Gary the way you’re talking today makes it seem as if there’s some research that should be done…can you analyze your palate the way you analyze dreams? Is it a window to the subconscious? I think it would be an interesting psych study!

QOTD: nope, dont think I have.

    Hey Gary,
YEAH, I’m more of a LURKER than a COMMENTATOR, but thanks for doing an episode on Bandol. I love that wine. I’ve had a couple of Bandol in my wino life, a Château Vannière 2003 and
Château Pradeaux 2000 and yes they were RADOOL. Thanks again. When are you doing an episode on Madiran wines?

  • I had the Tempier but it was a Rose’ and I absolutely loved it. I think it scored about 90 points in the Wine Spectator’s latest ratings. It’s hearty for a rose, more barnyard than fruit, but that’s what I liked about it. You should seriously try it if you haven’t already.

Nope! But will go looking for some this weekend. Thanks, because I am “new” to serious wine and had never heard of Bandol. Your Barbera show got me to try that wine with great results. Now onto Badol. Thanks again and have a great weekend!

First time de-lurking after about a year of watching. I want to say thank you, thank you. Two years ago I had a straight mouvedre in California and liked it, then a year ago had a great Bandol at a fancy restaurant and loved it. Since then I keep my eyes open for Bandol but few places carry it and fewer carry the modestly priced (under 30) stuff. Hopefully this will generate enough interest so that stores start to carry them and carry stuff below $40. Oh and no need to change the intro. When Asimov suggested to his readers to check you out he said you were a guy who was enthusiastic about wine, the intro fulfills that billing.

    Excellent show Gary.

QOTD: Bandol – a favorite. I’ve had a ’98 Chateau Pradeaux and both the ’00 and ’02 Tempier. One bottle left of the ’02 Tempier. I find these guys need bottle age and decanting. What a match for Provance Style Roast Leg of Lamb.
