It says that the wines tasted in this episode include the 2004 Terrebrune Bandol Rouge, but I think that was in the previous episode.

In past vintages, I have found Borsao “Tres Picos” to be a pretty decent inexpensive wine. It usually gets impressive ratings from the usual suspects, but I don’t know the story for the current vintage.

QOTD. Grading papers, watching WLTV, and going to the gym.

I haven’t watched a lot of video on my computer, but for crying out loud, Gary completely sucked me in. So engrossing. Just the right amount of humor. I could not look away. When I had to step away from the computer, I “paused” it so I wouldn’t miss a thing. I plan to view more and try the wines. Thanks!

Gary I find that I will buy a wine because of the score, but that is just to try it. I don’t buy wine just because of the score. I prefer to buy wine that I have tasted, but you can not always do that. I even will buy a wine from your tasting reviews. I just think everyone should keep an open mind on wine and trying a wine because of a score or from some ones recommadation should not be bashed if that is not the only way to buy wine.

QOTD We are haveing some friends over for desert and a 1977 Warre’s Port.

Gary – I’m a little confused with the 100 point scoring system. Should a “Fake Flavored” wine like this score 50 points or less? I’ve tasted it, it’s a fruit punch. Fruit juice + alcohol it’s a beverage, and that’s ok, but let’s stop calling it wine. Regarding Jay Miller, you are absolutely right. This guy is throwing 90+ left and right. I don’t dispute Parker’s palate, buy I do question his judgment selecting his partners.

Gary- Thanks for trying those wines so I don’t have to. I’ve already tried the Panarroz and it just didn’t do it for me. In technical terms, it tastes terrible.

This weekend is a snowstorm, the first wave of holiday parties, and the Giants v. Bears.

Great show, I just opened a Rhone Rebel GSM, a $6 bottle. On top of that I just got back from buying a bondol and a few other bottles.
QOTD- Going to an Eithopean Restaurant with my mother-in-law, then finishing the Rhone Rebel.

Fried electronics … That makes me think of the time I plugged a U.S. CD player into a European plug (accidentally …) and smelt that more intensely than I ever have before or since. I *loved* that CD player, so it’s not a smell I’m particularly fond of, but in a wine? Maybe intriguing. Something new, at least.

QoTD: This weekend — and I apologise to everyone who’s jealous of all the fun I’ll be having — I’m going to be getting my ass over to a café and writing a 25-page paper … In fact, I’m on my way back there in a couple minutes; just stopped home to have some quick dinner and watch WL 🙂

Mmmm grape pixie sticks…delicious. But not in a bottle of wine. Thanks for the warning GV!

QOTD: Wishing I was at Crushpad. But instead I find myself in snowy, cold Wisconsin. I ended up decorating my house and cooking for tmrw….because we’re finally going to taste along with you for the Thanksgiving 4 Pack! So pumped to try them out…and no worries- Lindsay’s decanting the pinot beforehand!

I actually have to admit that I really enjoyed the Earthwork 2005 Shiraz, great Blueberry syrup flavors with a little “earthiness” to it. I also must admit that I do enjoy a good “fruit bomb.” I was not impressed with the 2006 Shiraz however & I have not yet had the cabernet.

QOTD: Mr. Mom for the weekend b/c my wife is working Saturday & Sunday. I am going to be drinking 2003 Glen Carlou Grande Classique, a really nice South African Bordeaux style blend that was only $13!

FWIW, we had the 2004 Panarroz, which I think WA also gave a 91. Your description of the 2006 sounded similar, however – no electronics in the 2004. We agreed w/ WA on the 2004 call of 90 pts – it was a solid effort.

QOTD: Hit the slopes at Copper Mtn today for a bit of snowboarding & skiing; A few inches of fresh, but only 4 runs open on man-made snow – we need some more snow out here in this part of Colorado. Tomorrow, we are getting the Christmas tree.

I know it’s just a mix-up, but nobody seems to have commented on this. I’ve watched it twice and twice it has irked me…

The Barossa Valley does not produce California wines. That should be in Australia. Sorry to not-pick on this one. Especially for a Kool-aid cabernet.

You shouldn’t tell people to trust their own palate and then say you’ll be angry at someone who likes the earth cab. I do agree high scores are being thrown around a little too much. People shouldn’t follow them solely but they are a great guide for those of use who can ill afford to spend $20 on something we’re going to pour down the drain.

I’m hesitant now about Robert Parker’s (& Jay Miller’s) 90 point fruit bombs, especially from Australia. While I know they will appeal to the mass US market, those wines just don’t do it for me. The fruit extraction can be amazing, but often gets boring after 1 glass.
