Low Country Boil with Finger Lakes Mile’s Wine Cellar’s 2004 Cabernet Franc with German Chocolate cake and Hermann Wiemer 2003 port for dessert. – At a local ski lodge with many friends.

  • Man, this show is so MONEY!
I love it! It was great to meet you Gary this past weekend at Crushpad and then afterwards at the Wine Bar! Good times!
And since this is for the EPIC $500 bottle of Vino, my answer, to the Question of the Day is
The Greatest meal i’ve ever had was a fantastic Seared Ahi from the Cuban place in So Cal!
It’s barely surpasses my mom’s home made lasagna! But its fantastic!

QOTD – Either French Laundry in Napa or March in NYC. They were similar in that they were both tasting menus of lots of small dishes, each paired with a wine. They were also similar in that they both required a mortgage payment in exchange.

Thanks for the Saint Jean find…

QOTD: My Mom’s Thanksgiving this year. First time I’d been home for Thanksgiving in several years – she absolutely nailed it. Unbelievable.

  • Best meal ever- Hands down this would have to be dinner in Las Vegas with my girlfriend. Five course meal, each course coming with a wine. Desert came with port. Courses ranged from fish to buffalo, and were all completely unbelievable. Certainly my first major wine experience in a 5-star atmosphere, and it really turned me on to the idea of wine.

    Great show, GV.

QOTD:I had been a confirmed vegetarian for many years. From Montana myself, there are few ‘conditions’ stranger! Went with my family to see my uncle Jim, his wife and kids, then living in a 40′ trailer in Denton, MT. He’d saved up from his school custodian wages to buy steaks for us. Did I play high and mighty? Hell, no! We ate the very finest meal.

  • I have had many greatest meals, but here is my most recent. I just recently went to Catherine Lombardi’s in New Brunswick and ordered the stuffed veal chop medium rare! WOW, what flavor and tenderness! Paired it with an Owen Roe Yakima red 2005. Beautiful combo!

QOTD: Greatest meal was a few years ago here at home, had all the family here for Thanksgiving, from all over. The wine and food was pretty good, but the family aspect made it “the best.”

I think the best meal I have ever had was when I was when i was still in high school(not a school meal though). My favorite food in the entire world is Stromboli, and the day after a long wrestling season that required me to cut a lot of weight, my Mom made me the best Stromboli in the world. Nothing quite like Mama’s home cookin’.

Great show. Lot’s of comments today. I wonder why. I’ll bet if you even gave a %50 bottle of wine after each show, you’d see 400 – 500 comments each day.

QOTD: The best meal I had was a steak dinner while on a business trip to Minneapolis way back in the early 70’s.

The best meal that I have ever had is a homemade linguine and white clam sauce. This meal was prepared by me for my father-in-law’s 80th birthday. Along with it, we had some good crusty Italian bread and wonderful Italian wine. The recipe is one that my father got from his father.(I can send the recipe to you, if you would like it.) Ray

Wow the lurkers are out! Cool show! Bummer about the Solanera but the St. Jean sounds Radool!
QOTD: Beano’s Cabin @ Beaver Creek CO. Had venison some mussels and a killer brunello! Enjoyed a wonderful meal with my wife and brother.

  • Nancy A

    QOTD:

You might wonder whether a meal that costs over $200 is worth it and I would have to answer, yes, if it is a meal at The French Laundry in Yountville (Napa county).

  • AndrewP

QOTD: The best meal I’ve ever had was the last one with my mother before she passed from cancer earler this year. The food didn’t matter much, I think I had some of her hospital jello, and obviously there was no wine, but the time we spent together will stay with me forever. Family>everything else is more than just a saying, and I think you get that too Gary.

QOTD: I love pizza and I got the pleasure to visit italy and taste some wonderful pizza there and I would say that really any pizza you get over there be it Rome or Venice or Tuscany makes a fantastic little meal during the day when you been tired from touring and doing tourist things 🙂

When I was watching this episode I was wondering why there were so many comments. You had better believe I will be leaving one today.

QOTD: Filet Mignon at a steakhouse in Chicago (I think it was called the Charhouse or something like that, I think it is closed now) with garlic potatoes, vegtables, and of course: great wine (Chimney Rock Cabernet, really paired nicely).

QOTD: I’d have to limit this to home cooked meals since those are my favorite anyway. I’d have to go with a Pan-Seared Coffee and Ancho Chile Rubbed Duck Breast with a Wild Cherry Sauce that I made two years back together with Roasted Jerusalem Artichokes.

QOTD – Victory dinner at Capitol Grille in March 2006. Food was, as usual, very good. Best meal, however, because it was my victory dinner! Let you guess on the victory…..

QOTD: Most memorable meal of my life was at a little seafood place in Sacramento. They messed up my order and it came out after everyone else’s. To make up for it they gave me a glass of Pinot Noir. I had never heard of red wine with seafood before that I was a fairly conventional wine drinker (red with beef, white with chicken and fish). The combination was amazing and I was started on this hobbby turned obsession.

QOTD:Last fall at Defina restaraunt SF. Tagliatelle with shaved white truffls and a half bottle of 2001 Barolo.
