My best meal ever was in Rome (my first night ever in Europe) at L’Atro Mastai for my girlfriend’s birthday.

  • mark

shut up and taste it already

  • Erica37

QOTD: I spent two weeks in American Samoa and didn’t eat much while I was there. When I got home, I got to eat delicious Taco Bell chalupas in the airport. Best meal I’ve ever tasted.

Great episode, and awesome competition idea.
I wonder how many people are going to say they made the best meal they’ve ever had.

QOTD: Honestly, nothing stands out as a whole meal, i can think of starters that stand out, main courses that stand out, and desserts that stand out. But if i had to settle with 1 meal. It would possibly be the meal i had this year for my 22nd.
I went to a little village in the middle of nowhere over here in the UK.
I had a huge piece of plaice in some buttery sauce, with fries AND garlic mash, and loads of vegetables and all that stuff. And for dessert was something called “Mrs G’s toffee meringue”, it was incredible.

  • Ned

A five course meal prepared by my friends Nate and Alicia at their house, back in college; i don’t remember everything we had but it was all very good and we were a small select group invited to this dinner and it was a very lovely time.

  • Best meal I’ve ever had was crunchy chicken cooked by a friend’s mother. Basically, it is chicken with corn flakes all over it. Why was it so good? I have no clue.

QOTD- The greatest meal I ever had, my girlfried had made me a complete meal in the crock pot while I was at work, I was suprised when I arrived home from a long day at work to have a complete meal waiting for me. I don’t remember what the meal was but we have been married for seven years now.

  • not lurkin’ today. . . .

I love to eat and one of my closest friend’s husband is a chef. As much as I love eating at their restaurant, the best meal I have had was at their home. Homemade Fettucine noodles in a Pasta Fagiole – we had all just moved to Walla Walla to open Saffron, and the month leading up to the opening saw a lot of meals at their home for my boyfriend and I. She is Vietnamese and he is Italian and when she cooks it’s also a treat. I love her Banh xeo and Pho! 2nd best meal has to be the Pho we made after a long day on the slopes.

I would have to say asado is the best meal on earth, you’ve been to argentina, so you know what i’m talking about.

the best meal was a fillet so tender you could cut it with a spoon in argentina with chimmicurri and a roasted corn salsa.

The best meal I have ever enjoyed was after a long semester and finals my mom made me my favorite meal of hers, mashed potatoes with venison. It was winter and she had lefse made as well. Definitely not the most elegant meal or most flavorful but it was the exact right meal that the right time that made it really stick out for me.

  • Terri

Well, Gary, you got me out of lurkdom with this one. The best meal I’ve ever had was at Joel Rubochon in Vegas.

fun show as always, looking forward to the widget drawing…

QOTD: my grandma’s roast turkey dinners that i used to have during lunch period at school way back when… this is an english meal so it includes roast potatoes, peas, yorkshire puddings (the best!!) and lots and lots of gravy 🙂 *sighs happily*

  • Hey Gary

Good show – interesting discussion about the screwtops. I buy a bit of medium priced Australian wine to cellar and one of the main considerations whether I buy it or not is if it’s sealed with a stelvin; if it is I may buy it if it isn’t I normally don’t bother. Screwtops are the future.

QOTD: good meals are all about the people and for me the best meal every would be my 22nd birthday – a Viking feast were about fifty people dressed as Viking sat along one huge table and ate spite roasted meat with their hands and drunk beer straight from the keg – absolutely barbaric, but great fun!

QOTD: My Dad’s home cooking- Sesame Salmon, Roasted Tomatoes, and Reggiano Risotto.

Hey Gary, also, I was wondering have you’ve seen that kids’ movie Ratatouille? I thought it was pretty cool, and it deals with those issues of food/wine snobs in an interesting way- the villain is a snobby critic who has the power to make or break the restaurant and when he tastes the food his own memories and tastes become help him to appreciate the food not for who made it or how it was made, but how much he personally enjoys it. Seems to be what you’re all about. Pretty cool.

The greatest meal i ever had, in retrospect would have to be every time my mother would cook something just for me. My mother 8 years passed would cook 2 dinners many a time because what she was making my father I would not like. My favorite dish would have to be Arancini they are: baked rice balls, filled usually with meat sauce, mozzarella, peas, and other things. On the outside bread crumbed and deep fried.

The greatest meal I have ever had was a giant lunch at Au Biche au Bois in Paris France 2 years ago.. It was so fun
because of the decadence of eating and drinking such a rich meal in the Afternoon.. Another great one was the Elaborate Choucroute Garni meal I made last Xmas served with the finest Rieslngs and Pinot Gris’.
    jason carey.

  • The best meal I’ve ever had was a Terragon-Riesling Leg of Lamb that I personally cooked myself. With it, I served fried sweet potato fries and portabello mushrooms sauteed in butter and soy sauce. The wine we had with it was the same wine I used in the recipe. It was the Relax Riesling made by Schmitt-Sohne. It was the first Riesling that I had tried and enjoyed it quite a bit, not to mention it went great with the meal! 🙂

  • Matthew L

Gary…did you drop an F-bomb at the end of the show? 😀 Funny.

Sorry to hear your review of the Castano Solanera. I just picked up a bottle before Thanksgiving (for 15 bones $&%#@Q@#). I will be interested, though, to see if your review matches up to my impressions when I open the bottle. That’s the great thing about wine. This bottle may be the Schwarzenegger of wine. “The critics hate me, but the people love me.” We’ll see.

QOTD: I had a number of great meals with my family, but the best meal in my life, so far, was at the Inn at Little Washington earlier this year. My wife and I went there for our 1st wedding annivesary. GREAT food!

    Cheers!
