  • I like the change-up for Friday with the special guest! It opens the show up for more tangents but that’s what laid back Friday is all about…something a little different.

QOTD: Macaroni ‘n Cheese, with potentially some lobster or crab, Pacific Northwest style!

People (Parker for example) don’t get why some don’t like Alsace wines. Both you and Parker have described some of those wines as smelling of Petrol. That is kerosene! So would anyone like the smell of a wine that had drops of kerosene mixed in with it?

I received Eric’s book as a present and it was funny that you had him on the show. The book was a quick read on the train to work and I highly recommend it. Plus He has love for the Cubs, you can’t beat that. GO CUBS…. GO BEARS….

I think your Digg this! button is broken. I’m running Firefox/2.0.0.11. As a half-kiwi, this episode has a close place in my heart, however one wine that you didn’t taste which I thought you might is 2004 Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc. I recommend that for any occasion. As we say, get your reds from aus and your whites from the land of the long white cloud. Kia ora.

Greetings from New Zealand, What a great episode. I’m really looking forward to reading Eric’s book. I hear the chapter about the
bar brawls is spot on – having been punched out in a Marlborough bar myself!

Like you, NZers are over the overtly grapefruit tasting Sav Blanc. Try pairing the meat pie with some wine from the Hawkes Bay next time. I can see I’m going to have to send you some myself.

    regards
    Paul

The best meat pies in NZ are made in a town about midway between Arthurs Pass and Christchurch. The owner of the bakery makes the pies herself, and I would eat anything she puts in a pie.

  • Awesome show, but many Australians are going to argue that those meat pies are about as Australian a food as you can get.

QOTD: My favourite pie fillings are kangaroo and red wine and also King Island Camembert (yes Gary same blokes who make the Roaring 40s) and cauliflower – especially good if bought at the bakery on King Island.

I dream of a meat pie filled with blood sausage and baked apples and pears.

And I would like to sell them from a cart under the Pulaski Skyway or anywhere in the vicinity of Co-op City.

That was a great show Gary and Eric. Love NZ. Nice when you have guests and they come up with great questions of the day!
Speaking of which, QOTD: Foie Gras with leaks, truffles and morels in a red wine reduction sauce.
That could be kinda tricky but if someone could pull it off I bet it’d be great.
