I'm open to wines in a box, although I feel dubious about them and have never bought one and don't have any plans to. I'm definitely not into wines in a can however, I know Coppola's even doing one of those. I tasted a cuvee de pena rose in a bottle, it wasn't awful for the $2 or 3.99 it cost wholesale.

Great episode, Gary. Boxed wines are definitely not my thang, but hey…you gave it a go. QOD: My best steak I have ever eaten was years and years ago at the Chart House in a little mountain village in SoCal called Idyllwild. AMAZING!! The worst…a friend’s. If you were to drop the steak on the plate, the plate would have shattered. Could barely cut the thing. It was when we were all newly married, and this friend had no idea how to prepare steak. We laugh about it today…

    Cool episode. Thanks!

Best steak ever at “L’auberge du Poids Public” in Southern France.
Worst was at Ponderosa Steak House in Towson, MD circa 1996.

QOTD: Best steak was at Vic & Anthony’s in Houston. Worst was a “Bacon Wrapped Filet” I bought at the $.99 store. It actually looked decent when it was cooked, but I was still scared to take a bite. It lasted about 2 seconds in my mouth before I spit and ran for a toothbrush.

  • E-Rock

Best Steak ever = Peter Luger’s

Worst Steak ever = Everytime I have London Broil. I really do not enjoy the stuff, but you can’t be rude when you’re a guest.

Boxed wine? Drink it all the time, when it’s just me. Hardy’s, Black Box, and Stonehaven have been acceptable labels with no surprises, and fairly consistant for everyday consumption for about $4 to $5 a bottle. With the money saved, I’m able to purchase and enjoy “the good stuff” with friends and family whenever we get together.
Would I serve it to guests? I did once, and they were pleasantly surprised.
Best Steak: Bedford Village Inn in Bedford NH. A perfect ribeye.
Worst Steak: Ponda-GROSS-a . ‘Nuff said.

  • QOTD: Best was a filet mignon I cooked on my grill. Worst was a t-bone that I overcooked on my grill.

  • Geoff

QOTD: best: filet on my birthday 3 years ago in boston, worst some unknown cut my ex girlfriend cooked which was pretty much a piece of coal by the time she was done with it

  • QOTD: best Filet Mignon worst idk prob some microwaveable steak.

  • Great episode. Episodes like this make it a lot easier to share WLTV: I have several friends who don’t watch WLTV, but who’ve told me to let them know if GV ever drinks boxed wine. 😉

The worst steak I’ve had: The dining hall on campus served a large white glob of fat, with a vein of brown rubber running down the middle. I didn’t even realize it was supposed to be steak until the next month, when they served it again under the banner of “steak night”.

The best steak I’ve had, and also the best meal I’ve ever had: My roommate made filet mignon, stuffed with crab, wrapped in bacon, with a crab mushroom reduction sauce. We invited a large group of friends over for dinner, and had a Pinot Noir with dinner and an Asti Spumante afterwards. Wine + friends + good times = unforgettable.
