I'm open to wines in a box, although I feel dubious about them and have never bought one and don't have any plans to. I'm definitely not into wines in a can however, I know Coppola's even doing one of those. I tasted a cuvee de pena rose in a bottle, it wasn't awful for the $2 or 3.99 it cost wholesale.

  • Worst steak was the time my best friend marinated a ton deer steaks in italian dressing. We had played basketball in the snow for about 6hrs that day and then grilled up af ew dozen small steaks. Somehow I got super sick first and then made his entire family sick. i couldn’t touch deer meet or italian dressing for two years.

Best steak would be t-bones grilled outside in colorado on a perfect day with the mountains in the background.

Best steak, Ribeye on the grill at a “grill n’ ill” with my friends. Worst, the 6th sizzler I took down in a sitting at Ponderosa in high school.

  • Norcal

QOTD â?? Best: Prime Rib grilled over rosemary branches on the grill.

Worst: probably a steak I tried to cook when I was like eleven. Figured since it was thin, it only needed 15 minutes on each side to cook through. Plus, I hadn’t quite learned about the wonders of salt. It was rubbery enough that I could have patched a tire with it, or replaced it with a tire and not noticed a different taste.

Hmm.. best and worst. The best is easy: a Kobe Ribeye at Craft restaurant in NY city. The damn thing was like 90 bucks, but my generous (and rich) buddy was footing the bill.

The worst? probably something I cooked myself. It either comes out raw or way overdone, and I can never seem to get somewhere in between. This is because you arent supposed to cut it, and I can never figure out what it looks like on the inside…. I am a crappy chef.

  • aktormedic

QOTD – A steak (can’t remember the cut) at Chez Pic in Valence, France (just got their 3rd Michelin Star again…. Served with salt and pepper…just amazing. Worst – At an Outback Steakhouse in California. It was shall we say, a little past it’s prime…yeah…yuck

  • QOTD: Best Steak, at the CN Tower NY Strip, Worst Steak..hmmmmm Applebees steak, actually got sick from it so that didnt help.

The worst steak I’ve ever had was at a friends house. It left me chewing for hours…. the best steak was a rare/medium rare Delmonico at a local family owned steakhouse. It probably could have been listed as the best meal I’ve ever had.

  • QOTD: The best steak I ever had was probably made by me on my own grill in my backyard. The worst was a beautiful steak that my neighbor grilled to absolute well done. I love steak as rare as they will serve it to me!

PS. I ordered my Christmas pack, thank you for doing that again!

QOTD: Best steak is the druk’in Ribeye at Sweetwater Tavern in Dullas, VA. It’s an absolutely amazing piece of meat! Worst is the steak you get when you order steak and eggs at Denny’s. I’m not sure what that is?

Worst steak was Emerils steakhouse in vegas.

You do the Goose-n-berry just for me, right?

Magnavox Odysey was before Atari — you should know that!

I’d like to make a bet with you: I bet you can’t avoid using the word “VERY” for a 24 hour period. Name the stakes!

    Does Bruto give happy endings?

Please don’t tell us the worst thing you ever put in your mouth.

QOTD: Best — Berns Steakhouse. Worst — My wife, she can’t make steak to save her life.

Nice show. I always wondered about how good boxed wine where.

QOTD: The best steak I ever had eaten was a “Cowboy Steak” on the Regent Mariner Cruise Ship. I am not sure what kind of meat it was but I have never tasted anything like it before.

The worst steak I have ever eaten was a sirloin steak that my wife cooked for me during our first meal of our marrage that consist of corn on the cob, macoroni and steak some 40 years ago. I should of had a clue when I was walking through the kitchen and saw that she was boiling a large pan of water on the stove that contained not only the macoroni, the corn on the cob but also the sirlion steak, all of it in the same pot of boiling hot water. What can I say, I was young, hXXXy and in love, so I ate it.

best steak – any filet mingon ever
worst steak – every other cut

  • Carolyn

Thanks for the episode today. I’ve only purchased boxed wine one time – I promptly emptied out the contents and replaced it with 3 bottles of good stuff and smuggled it into an MLB game!!

QOTD – best steaks/beef are in my freezer, steer raised by my neighbor. Favorite cut – Hangar steak – on the grill with some olive oil and garlic. YUM. There is a reason they call it the butcher’s cut! Worst – long ago at Ponderosa. Reminded me of leather.

I’ve fallen behind in my Wine Library TV watching and saw the wine cellar episode only last night. Killer episode. Please, please do more like it. It was full of wine type information. And I always like looking at things I could never afford.

Box wine. Looking forward to watching that. Keep rocking the boat.

  • Alex

QOTD: Best Steak ever was at Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago
Worst steak ever was at Waffle House in G-ville, FL (GO GATORS).

  • Hey what about potential heat damage to the Pena? Sounded like it might have been roasted!

Here I go again…can I make it back to back??? If I do I’m definetly buying steaks from those dudes!

  • jason carey

gary there is a store in Paris called Les Crus du Soliel, which only sells wines from the south of France. They have some of the best
southern producers make custom bag in box wines for them that are fantastic. Producers like Domaine des Schistes from Rousillion make wines for the boxes.

Very interesting episode! I haven’t had a boxed wine in years.
    QOTD:
Best steak was in Calgary, AB at Nick’s Steakhouse — Peppercorn Top Sirloin steak.
Worst steak was one I cooked. I accidentally left it on the barbecue far too long, almost burning it completely.

  • Best was the Steak au Poivre at Raoul’s on Prince St…love that place. Nothing too memorable as being the worst.

  • Douglas

Best steak was prime rib at Chicago Chop House (wwww.chicagochophouse.com)

Worst was first steak I prepared in my new apartment in Boston, (I burned it, set off the smoke alarms, etc.)

  • horndogld

I’m dissappointed a bit in the boxed wines, I had a boxed Pinot Grigio while in Italy (don’t ask) that was actually pretty decent -however a couple others were less than satisfactory. I’m a big supporter of eliminating unnecessary waste, but storage longevity (and stigma) may a be a hump that is difficult to overcome.

Best Steak: A bourbon marinated and basted NY Strip at a small town restaurant in Ohio.

Worst: Any second round steak at Tumbleweed’s AYCE sunday steak and ‘taters.

  • Fiorentina!

    QotD –
Ummm…I really don’t eat red meat…..I have nothing wrong with it, but just prefer the taste of chicken or fish.
    Best steak – Black Angus
Worst steak – any philly cheese steak sandwich….i know i know..it’s just not my thing

  • Scott F

Best steak was at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse here in Cincinnati. Words can not describe how good it was. Worst steak was at some restaurant in Dayton, OH. The meat had what can only be described as “tendons” all throughout the cut and it was impossible to cut through. Absolutely gross.

Great show today. My wife is not a big wine drinker, and she likes to drink the pinot grigio and sauvignon blanc boxed wines from Target. They are ok, probably along the lines of the Bandit Pinot.
