I'm open to wines in a box, although I feel dubious about them and have never bought one and don't have any plans to. I'm definitely not into wines in a can however, I know Coppola's even doing one of those. I tasted a cuvee de pena rose in a bottle, it wasn't awful for the $2 or 3.99 it cost wholesale.

    Great show as always Gary!

    QOTD:
Best steak: Rodizzio restaurant in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
    Worst: Boulder Creek, Anytown, USA.

  • Jason Chu

Worse Steak: I visited Hong Kong and the meat these wasn’t tender and juicy as I wanted it to be.

Best Steak: Good old homemade on my own stove using my dad’s marinade when he use to work at a steakhouse.

  • Smith MBA

    QOTD:

The greatest steak is the porterhouse for two at Peter Luger’s. I had it when my brother graduated from high school.

The worst steak I ever had was an overcooked one a Charlie Palmer’s steakhouse which was promptly replaced.

  • Robert Ryan

My best steak was a Porterhouse at Pace’s in Hauppague New York.
My worst was a New York strip steak that fell into a in-ground pool. My uncle Harry was grilling near our pool and he went to put it on a plate and it slipped off into the pool. He assured us that if he grilled it for a few more minutes we would never know the difference. We didn’t have the heart to tell him that it was the worst steak ever. It was as crunchy as tree bark. Sometimes you do what you need to do for family!!!!

  • David M Roberts

Before the QOTD, wanted to comment on the show – really interesting, but believe you touched upon a key point which is that boxes cannot replace glass bottles if only for the aging component. For drink-now mass market wines, sure, a box may work. Anything else, no way.

QOTD: Best steak was at a jazz lounge / restaurant in Pewaukee, WI called Piano Blu – It was a bone-in rib-eye topped with Roaring 40s cheese. Perfection! (Runners up go to Coeper’s Five O’Clock Club in Milwaukee, followed by Smoky’s in Madison).

Worst steak was had on the isle of Huahine (rustic Pacific island near Tahiti). I don’t know if it was beef…

vury vury nice, i enjoyed this episode to the fullest. wakka wakka.

(QOTD) hrmmm, i mean the best is a title that i would have to rack ma’ brain for……well…… i guess the best steak i ever had was when i went to arizona and my uncle put a few steaks on the grill and slightly smoked them with a mixture of apple wood and dried rosemary. perfect char and perfect red coloring on the inside.

(QOTD0 The worst would have to be a steak i found in the freezer that i ended up broiling. and me not knowing if it was legit to eat or not………..well i ended up re-tasting it that night so i guess the moral to this QOTD is to check your meat….and check it good.

  • Grape Expectations

QOTD: Best steak I’ve ever had was in a little cafe in Denton, Nebraska, just south of Lincoln. 5 or 6 formica-topped tables, a lettuce wedge with orange-colored French dressing and saltine crackers for sides. Willie Nelson on the jukebox. The guy who ran the place butchered and aged the beef himself. It would just melt in your mouth. And the price was 1/10th what you would pay for the same size piece of meat in New York City.

Worst steak? Hmmm. So many to choose from. I’m sure it came from Sizzler and was cooked to within an inch of it’s life.

  • BobM

Okay, best steak ever was a Porterhouse from a friend who raised cattle on his ranch in the hills above Napa Valley. It was grass fed and cooked on a grill, followed closely by a Chateaubriand (I think it was actually a Tenderloin) at a restaurant when I was stationed in Germany many years ago.

Worst? Wow, I’m sure I’ve had a bad one, but it’s been so long, I can’t remember, or else I’ve simply erased it from my memory.
