I'm open to wines in a box, although I feel dubious about them and have never bought one and don't have any plans to. I'm definitely not into wines in a can however, I know Coppola's even doing one of those. I tasted a cuvee de pena rose in a bottle, it wasn't awful for the $2 or 3.99 it cost wholesale.

  • Coming out of my lurkdom…
QOTD: Worst: A steak I bought at the grocery store that got wrapped in foil and left in the freezer for about two years.
Best: I can’t remember the name of the place, but it was at a restaurant in Indiana.

The best steak NY Strips from Barths in New Providence, cooked on the coals in my backyard, medimun rare with a great Duckhorn Cab. Umm, Umm, good! Screw those NY steak places…can’t touch that!

The worse steak I’ve ever eaten…..it was call Prime Steak in Watchung. Over cooked, cold plates, grainey, it sucked. And to make matters worse it was NYC prices!

Gary -you’re invited to my backyard……bring some wine!

  • Great show today!

QOTD: Best steak I had was from a restaurant called Rino’s on Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale, Floria. Rino is a “celebrity” chef and has the most tender meat I have ever tasted! You could cut this steak with a fork. Worst steak I ever had was at a friends house and they had bought some cheap grocery store stuff. Unlike a restaurant where you can return it or complain to the manager, in this case I had to sit there, eat it piece by piece and compliment the cook. 😮

  • VinoVixen

Good show…I have been wanting to give these a try….but now I know there is no rush 🙂

QOTD: Best steak: A filet from a local organic farmer, grilled at home.
Worst: Capital Grille a couple years ago. Very disappointing.

  • Best steak I’ve ever had was on Sunday night at a restaurant in Seattle called Canlis. It was a Wagyu steak (Kobe beef) with a light red fruit sauce with mushrooms. It was paired with a bottle of 2004 Beudrau Cellars Reserve Cabernet. So perfect, I almost wept!

Great episode, being one of the C.K.C. I definitely can vouch for the need for good boxed wines!
QOTD: Chamberlains Steakhouse in Dallas Texas was the best, I had an amazing 16 oz. strip steak. The worst I ever had was at a buffet in Albany, it was super tough.

Best Steak in the world is the 42 OZ Porterhouse at Maxwell and Dunnes Steakhouse on Long Island…. The worst steak has to be my moms attempt to making a good porterhouse.

the best steak i had camping, cooking over an open fire, probably on my birthday; I like eating in the wilderness and cooking with sticks because you get that good dirt flavor … mmm dirt! The worst steak i had was in front of a museum in london. I was really hungry and bought this steak sandwich out of a truck – which i later heard you should never do – the meat was thin, tough, and sweet and then i got really sick.

GV- great show. Good to know all the options in wine.

Best steak, last year, at my parents on a lake in northern Michigan– added a peppery rub– I cooked.

Worst steak, two years ago, also at my parents at the lake, no rub–dad cooked. Burnt the steak and we took his “bbq card” away.

QOTD- Best steak was at a hole in the wall cantina in Loreto, Mexico (after a long day of fishing), it had a lot of interesting spices on it along with a big of scoop of guacamole. Worst steak is any that is overdone so that it resembles chewing shoe leather with little if any taste.

  • Big Nick

Great ep Gary. I think that I stated a few episodes ago that I had a great steak at the English Inn. Nice NY Strip, tedner with wild mushroom sauce. Also they serve a Trio of Fillet Medallions that is top notch. Each with their own sauce.

Worst: A Steak that I had Thanksgiving Weekend this year. I don’t know what exactly happened, but it was like eating a hockey puck

Trying to be a vegan 😀

QOTD: Best steak I ever had was grilled this summer, (never a bad summer grill). We cut our own steaks from a rib roast so they were extra thick. Worst was when a friend had several over to try try his new grilled flank steaks.

The best steak I have ever had was about a year ago at the Morton’s in Bethesda, MD. It was a filet, ordered medium rare, came completely rare but not chewy at all, just amazing. The worst would have to be an overcooked sirloin I attempted on the grill at home.

  • jasmurph

QOTD: Best steak was a stannard farm ribeye made at home. Worst steak? How about Steak-ummm, as in, “Ummm, is that even meat?”

Qotd: Best steak was on my grandma’s grill in Akron in, oh, around Summer 1988. Worst steak was Friday, December 7, 2007. It was forgotten for about a half hour as I cooked the latkes and ended up totally inedible.
