I agree Yellow Tail is not very good EXCEPT their ’05 Reserve Shiraz is actually good…a little over the top but a lot of character and enjoyable for only $11…..number seventy something on WS top 100 list for ’07…

QOTD- Don’t really have an everyday wine, which is part of the fun of having a lot of wine. Going down to the cellar to pick something to drink is always one of the highlights of my day.

QOTD – I dont really have a particular region or varietal. For the past 1-32 yrs we have been drinking what ever seems to be a good QPR no matter what it is. We used to go to wine tastings in the area and bring home a couple from that, but lately I pop into our local wine store bull sh*&^t with the guys/gals and ask what is new or what they like at the moment for a reasonable price…Of course I also buy from our “local” Wine Library on line.

Of late, loads of Rhone wines….)

I must suggest the Seaman’s Chapel in Port Newark/Elizabeth for a NY/NJ Vayniac meeting. GV, you could bill it as: Kermit Lynch meets Jean Genet, or something like that. I’ll bring a couple of burly minimum security convicts on probation and some handsome long shoremen.

I don’t really have an everyday wine. On non-wine drinking days, I consume swill to keep my constitution in balance. On days when I cook something decent or those times when I’m feeling particularly apocalyptic and I’ve purchased a family-sized kishka for me alone, I guess I prefer Rhones.

I don’t really have one, because there is so much great stuff out there to try, that I could drink 30 great cheap wines a day for the rest of my life and still not drink everything.. however my favorite wine I have been drinking a case of is Luddite Merlot from Coster Vineyard in Sonoma.. I also love the Garrigue Cotes du Rhone 2006

When you throw crap—- you usually get some on you!

I’ll see you at the Boston Wine Expo—- I’ll be bringing a bucket of crap to toss at you; so wear a rain coat!! You’ll know me.. I’ll be wearing the Patriot raingear!

I’m drinking Pinot Noir as my every day wine………. It’s suppose to have the highest level of Reservatrol, a powerful antioxidant, good for the arteries.Suppossidly Oregan Pinots have the highest levels; then come the french Pinots.

Lately it was mainly Austrian Blaufraenkisch wines from various winemakers in the Burgenland wine region. Not the top-class ones but rather the basic wines. The 2002s and 2003s are at their best know and I still have lots in my cellar. Good for me. At $10-15 bones they are really great value. Otherwise there is always some Cotes du Rhone and Italian Lagrein wines at hand. Nice and easy-to drink wines for every occasion. Lately I am also tasting some Cahors wines if I can find them. I really like the old-world Malbec style. It doesn’t always have to be from Argentina.

Been drinking Pinot Noir; allegedly the highest levels of the antioxident, reservatrol. Oregan boasts the absolute highest levels; then French Pinots. Reservatrol is suppose to keep the arteries clear.

I’ve been drinking Rex Goliath Pinot; because it’s the lowest priced spread for Pinots around here. It is a little fakie fake. But hey… the price works for every day drinking Pinot!

Have been trying more new wines lately but the go-to everyday “cheap” wine is definitely the Pillar Box Red. Incredible value for the overall enjoyment you get out of it.

  • I go to my my old time favorite Turley Zin. But I’m liking that Bellevue I picked up before Christmas. Been through a few bottles. Not bad…!!! Hits you hard on the nose though…. like n old shovel you found in the basement that has all rust and clumps of dirt on it. Ya know Gary..!

  • QOTD: Everyday wine for me is the Dobbin Lane line-up. I think every other response I leave on the forums mentions this winery. Only 8 bones per bottle and you definately get your money’s worth per bottle. Cabernet took a gold medal at the 2005 Orange County Fair and the Merlot is an awesome value. Not a big fan of the Chardonnay, but it goes well with fried chicken and fish n chips.

make the link it up mott shirt

gary i hope that smelling that last wine was a once and a while thing and that the sniffy-sniff was not something of 07. that’s awesome that you’re coming to boston and i’ll look for the guy giving out link it up mott shirts (or wristbands?!?!) at the expo.

qotd – no go to wine since I started watching the thunder show, I don’t even think I’ve bought the same bottle twice. although i do have a restaurant/bar I go to usually about 2 nights a week and after trying every wine they offer by the glass I find myself coming back to this languedoc blend I’ve enjoyed
