QOTD: We don’t have one. Thankfully, we are experimenting with different stuff.

I vote for a gathering in Walla two! My go to wines are mostly as follows:

I have a fondness for Washington Cab, Syrah, and Merlot.
Columbia Crest is always a good value as are Hyatt, Bernard Griffin, Powers, Preston, Gordon Bros. and many others.

Also there are some good wines from the famous “California” appellation:

I like the ’05 Twin Fin Merlot, ’05 Dog House Maxi’s Merlot, and ’05 Pepperwood Merlot (which I think is largely from Russian River and a total sleeper). But the standout is Laurel Glen’s REDS, a crazy blend from Lodi and at 10.00 it kills.

There are no under $10 Oregon Pinot Noirs anymore, but they are my go to bankruptcy wines!

I’m really enjoying some cheap bordeaux’s I’ve been testing recently. They are much more complex and “real” then the cali wines I started with.

I’m officially a “fan” of WLTV in the Facebook world…

QOTD: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I never buy the same bottle twice (unless it’s for a gift for a friend or to bring to a “social gathering” of sorts, so that I know what I’m “bringing to the table”) so I DO NOT have a everyday go-to wine to have around the house. I don’t think my “PAL” would appreciate the redundancy.

But, seriously folks, there isn’t much going on here wine-wise. If you asked me my everyday tea, it would probably be some countryside green tea I’m drinking. Wine. I guess it would be mostly stuff from Argentina and South America. They sell a lot of wine over here.

You should definitely go over to NC for your wine travel. Check out the Scuppernong dessert wines they have; sorta over the top with the sweetness but that’s how we like things in the South.

I’m still trying new things. I rarely buy the same wine twice, even if i really like it.
So i don’t have an everyday wine, and i doubt i will for a while.

Disappointing (but still good) show from a QPR perspective. Haven’t seen many QPRs recently. I’m hoping you concentrate on QPR wines this coming year. Make it your New Year’s resolution (what is it by the way) to find at least one thunder QPR per week.

QOTD: My everyday wine switches off between Rancho Zabacho Heritage Zinfindel and Veramonte Primus 2004 (a delicious QPR from Chile) that I couldn’t get at WL.

QOTD: Reds from California. Mostly Merlot. However, I do buy lots of other wines to try out, especially those that I find interesting from watching your show.

Since I started watching the show, I don’t have an everyday wine. Every time we pick-up wine, I try to look for something I haven’t tried before.

Prior to WLTV, go to wines were Orvietto Classico or Pinot Grigio for white, and Australian Shiraz for red.

QotD: The Les Arnevels Cabernet/Syrah featured on free.winelibrary.com was excellent for the $5 per bottle it was offered and I bought a half case the last time it went on sale.

Just noticed that GV had a very big Yakov Smirnoff look about him when he rocked the full beard in past episodes (#159). Grow the beard back GV!

I do not have at present an everyday go wine as you described. I am concentrating on Sauvignon Blancs as I enjoy those the most at this time.

QOTD: i really don’t have an everyday wine. actually for the “everyday” i am searching the under 15 dollar bordeaux and bordeaux superior section of 2005. i am finding some nice ones. basically looking for something that will do real well in 5 years. also some “borgogne” in the same range.

Would love to see a Vayniac party in the NC. Bring the Thunder and we’ll bring the pallets.

QOTD – McLaren Vale

QOTD: Spanish reds under 10 bucks mostly. I’m finding that Garnacha and Tempranillo are pretty hard to screw up, even if they get a little fruit crazy sometimes. The value is always very good.

YUP … another GREAT show! And NOW, G V-N-Ch, how about a show with some of those OTHER great $8 values that you mentioned in today’s show?! Pick your very favorite four cheapies and build a show around them! We would all sure appreciate it, especially those of us, like me, that make less than 30K, because we TRULY need QPR wines that rock for everyday quaffers, and if they rock AND bring the THUNDER, then those wines are wines we simply MUST know about. ‘Nuff said!

QOTD: Navarrita Merlot … once it opens up it is a wonderful everyday wine (let it breathe for three hours at least and you’re off!); better than most sub $20 wines, and at one point WL had it for about $6, though regularly about $8. The best value I’ve found, and one of the few that I add to each case I buy from WL.

I don’t have an everyday wine per se, but I do have requirements: has to be under $12, has to be interesting (mostly old world, because that’s how I roll), AND I for the most part, I haven’t tried it before.

In fact, when I have guests I’m much more likely to have tried the wine I’m serving. I want a guaranteed hit when I have guests.

Great episode – I’ve seen some of those wines around and am always wondering about the vast array of 6-12 dollar wines out there.

Even though I try to buy lots of different wines and don’t keep a large quantity of any one particular bottle around, I am a big fan of the Cline 2005 Zinfandel and would probably settle on that as my “everyday wine.” I also have been buying a rose from Languedoc called Chateau la Roque, which is pretty decent stuff for six bucks.

QOTD: I don’t drink wine daily, as my “just-graduated-from-college-and-have-student-loans” budget doesn’t quite allow for it, but my normal dinner wine has been the ’04 and/or ’05 Hecula Monastrell. Amazing QPR.
