    Hey Gary,

I have felt guilty about not leaving a comment so here is the first. Who ever thought about wine and video games?! I love the occasional reference for my other favorite past time. Keep it coming!

Interesting how Pete Rose bets on a few games, not affecting the outcomes, and he gets banned from baseball forever. The Patriots coach, Bill Belicheat, steals what amounts to teams’ playbooks and he gets a slap on the wrist, a small fine and continues cheating with the blessing of the NFL. As far as I’m concerned, all of New England’s Super Bowl titles should have HUGE asterisks as permanent identification marks.

    Real men don’t cheat.

    Gary,
Your thoughts at the end of this episode actually hit close to home for me just recently: what do you do with wine you don’t like? You analyze it! That is exactly what I did last night, in fact.
I bought 3 of the same wine, directly from the winery recently. I cracked open one…and hated it. I mean, I spent an entire glass of swirling, sniffing, warming…doing whatever I could to determine if I was just fooling myself, or if I had truly blown $20 per bottle on 3 bottles of crap (it wasn’t corked). I finally came to the conclusion that I truly, madly, deeply hated this wine, having written paragraphs to myself concerning the nose, the attack, the midpalate and the finish. I mean, I nerded it UP.
So, what did I do with all this chicken scratch? I emailed the winery. I was very nice about it, and I complemented other wines that they produce that I liked, but I felt that they might be interested to know that at least one of their millions of customers couldnt’ stand this particular bottling. And do you know what the response was? THey offered to refund me the money! For 3 bottles I simply didn’t like. Now THAT is the moral of the story: be nice, express your opinions, don’t be shy, and once in a while, you will make lasting relationships with wine producers. Instead of taking my $ back, I actually asked that they just send me a bottle of the other wine which I very much enjoyed. ALl in all, I think it was a huge learning experience for me, and I will continue to do as you suggest: analyze the bad wines, figure out what it is you don’t like, and sometimes, someone will listen to you!

Thanks, GV. Sorry to fill up the screen, here…

QOTD: Well, this is after the fact, but I DID correctly pick the Jags, Seahawks, Giants and Chargers. The Jags win gave me the most pleasure because I am a Browns fan (meaning I HATE the Stillers). And now I am licking my wounds as LSU is pasting my Buckeyes (which I also predicted).

On Saturday evening, my lovely wife, Jane, and I joined four other couples from my work group for a nice dinner at XO Prime Steakhouse. Good stuff.

And since it will be such a special event , I will break out the big guns. FRANZIA!!!!!! If it’s not from the box , it’s not for me. That’s how I ROLL, P DIDDY styles. As far as Football, I have played all the major sports for a team when I was young. But U of Michigan has stolen years off my life back in the FAB FIVE days that I am afraid my 30 year old heart can’t take anymore. Then I discovered Rock n Roll and have been playing guitar for the last 18 years , and never fully turned back. Ask me about Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Dead , The Doors , Even M. Jackson when he was cool. Don’t roll you’re eye’s people, there was a time when he was THE MAN!!!!! Now he’s more girl. PEACE!!!!

  • Hey Jimmy, Real Men don’t whine like girly-men. Don’t be such a hater :-).
In point of fact much of the Pats success owes more to AP MVP Tom Brady’s awesome athletic ability and fierce competitiveness than anything in Coach Belichick’s playbook. IMHO.
