    Differant and nice episode………

QOTD: Friday work, Saturday work, Sunday work……..My weekend starts on Monday and lasts thru Thursday.

    So “my weekend” plans are;

Monday: Coffee with Mom and Dad, rest up from the 36 hours of work out of the 72 hour weekend, play with the wify wife and dog children.

Tuesday: Coffee with Mom and Dad, work on putting up some siding on a barn I am building at the farm, take the dog children and wify wife to the lake for a walk or two, take a drive to Shreveport to have dinner with my sister.

Wednesday: Coffee with Mom and Dad, wify wife and I are volunteering our day at the local Animal Shelter to help do some cage relocating along with some remodeling and painting. Give some of those dogs and cats shots and groom and bath some also. Wine tasting that evening at a local wine shop.

Thursday: Sleep in till 9AM. This is our nothing day. Wify wife and I will just sit back, maybe watch TV, take dog children for a walk at the lake, maybe visit local wine shop to talk about wines tasted the night before, after getting home maybe sit in the recliners and drink some more of those previously tasted wines or just explore something new on our own, then maybe have the kids and the grandkids over for dinner, basicly Thursday is our Sunday. Not much going on on Thursdays except family and friend stuff. If any of this falls through the cracks, then maybe we won’t do anything at all.

Other than watching WLTV that’s it for this “my weekend” weekend.

Gary, here is a tasting idea:

Retaste the 2003 Franciscan Cabernet (available here: http://www.bargainliquors.com/wine/detail.php?products_id=815) and splice in the original tasting notes from 2006. It will give the Vayner-nation a clue about what aging can (and cannot) do for a wine. I’d really like to see this one.

    Thanks.

  • Mr.Ambassador

    Fun laid-back show today.

I’m watching WLTV after all of the football games have ended (sorry, that was plan numero uno for this weekend). I would’ve predicted our Seattle Seahawks win this weekend! Seriously, first you stop shipping to Washington State and then you don’t pick the Seahawks? Where’s the love!

In my efforts to experience new grape varietals I spotted the De Long’s wine grape varietal table (like the periodic table of the elements for wine), found it pretty informative and thought if you haven’t seen it yet you’d get a kick out of it!

Well, the weekend is almost over, but I spent a fair bit of time planning a wine tasting based on the 100 Top Bordeaux Under $25 list — for my American Wine Society chapter. Other than that, I climbed a small mountain. I know nothing about football :-).

I haven’t liked SBs from California either; I agree that they seem to make them like Chardonnays. We have some better ones here in Virginia, actually. (I’m putting a couple in my tasting, along with some Virginia Meritages, for people to contrast to the Bordeaux.)

  • Since the weekend has expired, I suppose I’ll share with you my “attempted plans” vs. what really happened.

Plans: Take it easy, maybe drink some wine.
What happened: Ended up working the whole time.

Oh well, there’s always next weekend!

Well, my weekend consisted of a poker night paired with a pretty good Chat-du-Pape.

As for a football prediction, the NFL games are over, so I’ll give you my prediction for Monday night’s NCAA championship game. I’ll be pulling for LSU (southern loyalties, even though I’m not an SEC fan in particular), but I think Ohio State will not let last year happen again. I pick OSU in a close one.

  • I liked your comments on “playing” a wine. I did that recently with a Douro wine and was blown away after an hour of it sitting in the glass. I really enjoyed it after it sat a while. Keep giving us the great insights!

QOTD: I’m just back from a two week vacation and the weekend is over. But I was surviving the wicked winds!

  • â?¦In California, the nation’s largest wine producer and the state with the least wine sales regulation, the Legislature in 2005 passed a law — supported by distributors — that prohibited Californians from purchasing wine from out-of-state retailers. The state attorney general’s office has put enforcement of the law on hold until the end of this year to give the Specialty Wine Retailers Assn. a chance to persuade lawmakers to pass legislation that would allow out-of-state retailers to ship into California. “If we are unsuccessful it is entirely possible that Californians will be prohibited from purchasing wine from out-of-state retailers,” said Wark of the retailers’ groupâ?¦

That annoys me to no end. I think I’m going to give some support to the Specialty Wine Retailers Assn, because they are fighting against these lame wine shipping laws. http://www.specialtywineretailers.org/standfor.html People like me in CA should be able to buy wine from anybody anywhere – including from Wine Library! If this law passes, I won’t be able to buy from Gary anymore. In this day and age, it makes no sense.

I know Gary isn’t trying to make this site political, but these politics are directly threatening his bottom line.
