Have not had this wine, Sbragia Chard for sure and reds. Have had some pretty good California Sau Blancs recently. http://www.winelx.com

Not really worried about it because the Pats are already in the play offs and most likely about to make history.
QOTD just back from BVI for new years so catch with a friend on her b-day

  • Gary, first time poster. I wasn’t surprised at what you got from the Sbragia SB. I had both their recent Chardonney’s and they were way over the top. The Gamble Ranch tasted like butterscotch. They must like that style, and must have some real ripe grapes they are working with.

This is me, trying to continue my venture out of lurker status.

    QOTD:

Even though it’s halftime, you’ll have to trust me that I had the Seahawks picked already. Heck, they’re only up 10. Picks in bold.

    Washington at SEAHAWKS
    JAGUARS at Pittsburgh
    Giants at TAMPA BAY
    Tennessee at SAN DIEGO

Sorry Gary, I expect TB to rush heavy and Eli to once again fold to the pass rush. Brandon Jacobs can’t win that game alone.

    Hey Gary,
Only just started watching this vlog – fantastic. Had a glass of Sauvingon Blanc at the pub this evening (can’t remember the country/maker) and after smelling, there was a strong smell of body odour/sweat that over powered the normal ‘wine’ smell I usually get (as I find it very hard to smell/taste fruits etc.). Is this normal?! I’ve read that mature chardonnay gives you a body odourish smell but is this fine for this grape?!

QOTD: Carl has/had two gigs (plays bass in a band). This is why we’re watching on Saturday…didn’t get home ’til after midnight last night. He also has to do some remote computer work. I am being a roadie and supporting wife. Also, our weekly wine tasting (blind tasting this week) and chilling when possible.

Oh, we checked out one of the premiere wine sellers in our area today…Ansley Kroger…very impressive.

Not football fans here so no predictions.

Gary, that learning English thing? How’s it going? Sauvignonochardonnanay? I googled it, I wikipedied it, I even looked on facebook groups for such a word. NOT THERE, homie!
Had a few 5th growths with some great people and amazing food yesterday and have a wine tasting at a local Italian restaurant today.

  • You picked Washington! Oh Gary! I’m a Hawks fan and I loved the lop-sided score (I realize that the stats actually make Washington look better)….

My picks: Jaguars, San Diego, Giants, all the obvious ones, but I think those are the best teams.

Your Jets jersey is so cute!!! That’s what being a mother is all about. I was almost teary eyed there for a moment…
QOTD: Unpacking,(I just got home from my parents house, 8 hours away, with 3 kids in the SUV…), relaxing watching WLTV shows that I missed during the holidays

Being an Irish-born immigrant, I’m more of an international football fan (real football) than the NFL but I intend to watch the San Diego-Tennessee game because my sister is hosting an wine party and her husband is a big-time Chargers fan. I know there will be leftovers, so I’m going to do with it what I do best: blending. Hey, have you ever done a show on blending or (don’t laugh) non- or low-alcohol wines? Have a great weekend!

  • This weekend I am going to be skiing the ridiculous powder that the snow Gods are going to bestow on the great state of Colorado. However, I also have a quick question for other Vayniacks and Gary. I am starting to get into Grenache and was wondering if there was a good starter wine I can develop my palette with.

Ooooh Gary! That Jags pick over Pitt almost didn’t work out for you!
Can’t agree with you more about Cali SB! Cali whites in general I think can run into a LOT of problems. Case in point: earlier today I tasted the Concannon Chard. Wow, it was like a teenage Chard hooked up with a thirty something Pinot Gris and had a love child, but Chards parents freaked out and put the baby wine up for adoption and the adoptive parents named this little bastard love child Concannon.

QOTD: Go for a nice early morning walk with the wife and maybe go see “The Debaters”

    Hey Erik,
I’ve been getting into Grenache lately as well and have really enjoyed some of the Spanish offerings. Las Rocas Garnacha runs ~$10 and is a really enjoyable starting point.

Funny about that question re: Pinot Gris. Perhaps it’s because we in Vancouver eat a lot of seafood, Chinese, Indian and Thai dishes, but it seems to be a pretty popular wine up here. It also helps that BC’s Okanagan Valley makes some very nice Pinot Gris.

QOTD: Roasting my own coffee and heading to my parents for Sunday afternoon dinner. The Vancouver Canucks aren’t playing this weekend, so I imagine we’ll be watching some football.
