Qotd: had a few in Virginia this past year at a tasting that were dynamite. Unfortunately they were all done blind so I'm not sure which one was the best

  • QOTD: Can’t say I’ve ever had Petit Verdot and I don’t have a good reason why not. Though I’m not sure today really swayed me much, other than your obvious love for the grape, Gary.

    Ive tried 1 PV – RM Reserve ‘Nelwood’ 2004 – South Australia. Turned out to be Shiraz-like, but with a little more going on (peas, vegetables, leather, and cedar). Too bad itt was WAY over-oaked. Grr. Shame.

    I want to try a few more…if they were easier to find!

    QOTD: I’ve only had petit verdot in blends. I’d enjoy seeing a show with 1 petit verdot and 3 blends that contain petit verdot to identify what contribution petit verdot makes to the blend. I’m going to suggest that for my wine group’s next tasting.

    I’ve never had a Petite Verdot…probably because as you said it’s expensive for what you probably are going to get.

    QOTD: I’m so down with Bordeaux grapes standing on their own. But, right now PV is the sixth man… Benched. Malbec is like Hansel in Zoolander! Even Carmenere can be great on its own. I guess we’ll see in a few years
