qotd: All I really know about is some of their wines, and the main reason for me goin there would be to see the wineries. The history would be nice too
Wow just had a bottle of Chateau D'Auvernier Neuchatel yesterday. LOVE that you threw the spotlight on Switzerland wines, some killer quality there, wines that aren't explored nearly as much as they should be, but the prices are high.

One thing, Chasselas is not ONLY in Switzerland, it's made as a varietal in Alsace, the one made by Domaine Schoffitt is particularly good. Also you can find it under the Pouilly-Sur-Loire appellation in Eastern Loire Valley France too.

I’d like to recommend that Gary adopt the Thundercat’s method of tasting wine.

Sophie, Thank you so much for being on the show. Really enjoyed listening to you talk about Swiss wines. I would like to say I have had a Swiss wine but I think the closest I have gotten is Austrian.

Thanks Gary for having Sophie on the show. One of the best interviews so far. Very informative.

QOTD: I have had the fortunate pleasure of visiting your fine country with my family. My daughter loves Switzerland and Austria and cannot wait to return. What I think of when I think of Switzerland is; the longest tunnels I have ever been through; crisp, cold, alpine air; majestic mountains; some of the most picturesque vistas; soft alpine tundra; the music of cow bells; waterfalls; tiny cottages perched high on mountainsides; Sherlock Holmes.

Here is a good reason why they are expensive. Dezaley is perhaps its best vineyard… Try working in this. No machines possible.

Very fun and educational episode. Thanks for spending your time with us, Sophia!

QOTD: I was lucky enough to take a short trip through Switzerland when I was a teenager. Traveled through the Alps, and ended up spending a few days in the Lake Geneva area. It is perhaps the most romantic, beautiful place I’ve ever visited. Gorgeous setting, wonderful food, and the very first place I ever had a sip of wine! I don’t know what kind of wine it was, other than being white (was only 16, so what did I know about anything???). I have always wanted to go back, and someday I’m sure to visit. Next time, I’ll know what wines to try. 🙂

Great show, I will definitely look for the rose. Just so you know, some Chaselese is grown in the Puget Sound appellation of Washington State. Mount Baker Vineyards. It is tolerant of the cool, wet climate up here.

Good espisode – it can’t be easy getting Swiss wines across, but Sophia, with little bit of you, totaly whet our appetitie. Congratulations to Sophie for getting more than a couple of words in over the great Vaynerchuck!

Now you know you’ve gotta adopt the Thundcat tasting method in one of your (more crazy) episodes! C’mon you know it’s gotta be done!

QOTD: Learnt to ski in Switzerland, lovely villages beautiful mountains, unfortunately I wasn’t into wine then (being just 17), but I’m going back to ski again – This time I’ll definately be checking out the vin.

  • Wine Not?

Great show, Gary and Sophia, although like the other Vayniacs I am jealous that I can’t taste those wines as well!

When you mentioned “Oeil de Perdrix”, it made me remember my visit to Napa a couple of years ago. We stopped by Trinchero/Sutter Home and they had one of the original white zin bottles there and guess what they called it? Oeil de Perdrix! No kidding! The guy at the tasting counter said that the name was too intimidating so they changed it. Crazy, huh?

QOTD: I’ve been to Switzerland twice and loved it, but never tasted any Swiss wines while there. It is a beautiful country though!

good show, informative and pleasant guest. PA actually sells the Neuchatel.

QOTD: I know that the swiss may by a referendum of 100k revise their constitution, they didn’t let women vote till 1971, they get a new leader every year, and they also grow some gamay merlot and riesling/sylvaner….

  • Switzerland is one of the most beautiful places in the world bar none. That being said it is expensive but if one can afford it one should go. The wines I had there were incredible and in comparison were not that expensive. Certainly not Spanish or Portuguese prices but well worth the price.
